Karatau State Nature Reserve is located in the Central part of the Karatau ridge, which It is a branch of the northwestern arches of the Tien Shan in the territory of the South Kazakhstan region. The slopes of the ridge are dissected by deep valleys of numerous rivers and temporary streams with seasonal surface runoff almost everywhere.
In the Sozak region, you can observe an amazing natural phenomenon. The place is called "Kelinshek-Tau" - "stone bride" - translated from Kazakh. These mountains are bizarre and looking closely, you can see the outlines of one rock, similar to a sitting girl dressed as a bride, in front of her a stone bowl and a dog, and they are surrounded by boulders resembling the shape of a camel.
Aksu Canyon is one of the most picturesque places of the Aksu-Zhabagli nature reserve, the oldest reserve in Kazakhstan, which is located in the Turkestan region and was founded in 1926 in the mountains of the Western Tien Shan. In terms of size, Aksu is considered one of the largest and deepest canyons in Central Asia. Its depth ranges from 300 to 500 meters.
