Lake Toba

We went to the place Tuk Tuk to a very nice guesthouse named Romlan. The ferry brings you to their doorstep. The climate is very nice and the the view very relaxing. You can also rent a scooter to see the island. Loved it. Tip: the ferry leaves from Parapat (tiga raja harbour) to Tuk tuk. On the way back we thought it would be nice to stay one night in Parapat near the harbour. But accomodations are very bad and pricy.so not recommended. We landed on Medan airport. You can take a shared taxi which is okay priced. Later we found out air asia also has a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Silangit which is closer to Lake Toba. From Silangit there is a Damri bus to Parapat (tiga raja harbour) And from there you can take the ferry to Tuk tuk.

Renting a scooter is by far the easiest option. There is a place next to the Sibayak Cafe (you cannot miss the gigantic sign) in the centre of Berastagi where you can rent them. By scooter there are two places I recommend you to go to. First, to the deserted village of Suka Nalu. Photos of the red zone you find online (abandoned school etc) were taken here. From there you can walk along a "road" that is overgrown. In dry season I think you can cross the small river at the end of it, so that you can see the dead forest and lava stream. However, we didn't manage to cross the river due to high water. Afterwards, ride to the ghost town called Gurukinayan. Here you can see the lava stream and also walk over it for a while. Great up close view of the vulcano as well. I would not recommend trying to walk from the first to the second place, because there are cliffs/small canyons carved out by the lava that you would have to cross and they seemed too treacherous to climb in and out of. You can also get to the first place by bus. Take the orange "Rio" bus (it brought us pretty close) and walk the last part.

The Bohorok Orangutan Centre at Bukit Lawang

We arrange jungle trekking tours through the rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park, starting from the village Bukit Lawang, located in northern Sumatra,Indonesia. It is one of the last places in the world where you have the unique chance to observe the rare Sumatran orangutan in his natural habitat. The Gunung Leuser National Park is further habitat for many other species of exotic animals, flowers and plants. Since 2004, the tropical rainforests of the Gunung Leuser National Park together with 2 more national parks on Sumatra, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

We travelled with Trailfinders. The organisation was superb. We had a guide for our 3-day stay called Gandar who was very knowledgeable and thoughtful. A ranger called Ayub was assigned for the Orang Utan trek; frankly he was a genius, we saw eight including one very close encounter. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend any aspect.

We started the business on a small scale. However, when we saw that the island of Sumatra was an attraction in the future, we decided to expand this area by providing various services to tourists from within and from outside the country.

The beauty of the idol island lies in its shaded blue beaches and the large number of large rocks, There are many activities that can be done by tourists, such as enjoying the beauty of the island by going around the island, snorkeling, diving, trekking and riding to the lighthouse. Surely any activities carried out in this place should not not ride the lighthouse to see the scenery around the island more clearly
