Our cruise ship was in the Callao port for way too few hours. But we used our time wisely by booking an excursion with Mar Adentro Excursions to the Palomino Islands. I have never seen penguins before and this was an opportunity to see them in their natural setting. We did see the Humboldt penguins. But we were overwhelmed with the sight of the sea lion population. There were so many that they were body to body n the rocks. One sea lion was so huge that I mistakenly thought I was looking at a sea lion and a giant boulder. He was so huge that it is a mystery how he managed to move that hulking body. Some of the passengers donned wetsuits and swam with the sea lions. Two of our guides joined them in the water and took good care of them. I was happy to watch and record their joy. Our guides and driver -- Rodrigo, Fernando and Jay -- were personable, professional and a lot of fun.
