Peace, tranquillity and friendship await you at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. The gem of Southern Alberta is celebrating it's 50th year with cultural activities and the very best omotenashi (hospitality) every day. Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden season officially begins Saturday May 13th and the season runs to Sunday October 8th. Enjoy the Lethbridge Japanese Garden from the first spring blossom to the final autumn leaf.
During the internment of Japanese Canadians during the second world war, Lethbridge Alberta was considered a 'safe' place to confine them over 70 years ago. When the war ended, and many had no other homes to return to, they stayed in Lethbridge and a thriving Japanese community was built in this Southern Alberta city. The Nikka Yoko Japanese Gardens are a beautiful example of the artistry of what a Japanese Garden could be. A balance of trees, shrubs, arrangements of rocks, pagoda's, quiet sitting area's situated to 'hear' the babbling brook, a giant bell that when rung is pleasantly relaxing as opposed to jarring...this is a beautiful showcase of Japanese artistry. Worth the 2 hours spent there.

This is a lovely picnic park, lots of tables, and lots of trails and playgrounds to keep the family entertained. The gorgeous Viaduct is also there to gawk at - it's a truly amazing bridge. It also borders on the Old Man River, and on our recent visit, we were thrilled to see small group of American White Pelicans there. Well done Lethbridge! We also enjoyed seeing the horses that they are keeping at the adjacent Fort Whoop-Up.

A great place to go with my family to let our dog burn off his energy. Sometimes a bit smelly as the water treatment plant is very close, but hey, it's part of the Lethbridge experience!

A real gem! This park is located just off Lethbridge's major commercial road and hotel zone, Mayor Magrath Drive, as well as several other attractions. Parking is free! Yay! It's a beautiful artificial lake, with a nice trail going around it. For COVID, they have made it a one-way loop walk, and most (but not everybody) complied when we did our little walk. We also saw that they have permanently propped open garbage can lids, so people don't have to touch them to put away their waste. If you're in Lethbridge, no excuse for not visiting!

This is a spot that not many people seem to know about. I took my elderly mother, and it was wheelchair accessible. It was a nice walk around the wetlands and Mum and I both enjoyed seeing the birds and wildlife. It is an ever changing environment, which makes each visit unique.

We've visited Lethbridge many times, but were completely unaware of this gorgeous park space. Downtown Lethbridge and Indian Battle Park are on one side of the Old Man River, and this park is on the other side, along with their stunning university and some nice new neighbourhoods. We were on the search for cactus blossoms, and heard on social media that they might be blooming, so we dropped everything and drove to Lethbridge. And did we ever see them - timing is so critical. We walked from the University (we had to pay for parking :( ), and walked along a fine trail long the river for quite a ways. Gorgeous views, and beautiful natural prairie and coulee landscapes. A true hidden gem.

We offer nature-based exhibits, interactive and fun outdoor programs, and are a community resource to learn about nature! The Nature Centre’s team includes volunteers, staff, and community partners that are dedicated to connecting people to the great outdoors. See for yourself by visiting the Nature Centre, located in the Lethbridge river valley north of the High Level Bridge, only minutes from downtown. The Nature Centre is open year-round and admission is always by donation!

A reservoir built in 1929 provides the setting for one of Alberta's oldest provincial parks. Park Lake is a refuge for many migrating birds, habitat for breeding birds and other wildlife. You may see the pelican, red-winged blackbird, American goldfinch, sora and house wren.
We went for a hike. We had trees on both sides. We found a playground all in blue. There was ice-cream, but we came to early. There was a beach! We saw a pelican. He is the owner of the lake! There were a lot of youngsters that were going to kayak. The lake was the best with the Pelican. We had our hike and we will remember this lake. Worthwhile to see!
