Parked the car at minnis bay car park, and enjoyed a fantastic walk along the promenade of the Saxon shore way, to the ancient historical towers of reculver. Landmark that can be seen for miles, from herne bay to margate. Good information informing you of the history of the ancient towers. Glorious views out across the Thames estuary, we were lucky with the weather and could make out southend. The walk is a birdwatchers haven, and lovely coastal flora and fauna. Walk took us a out an hour both ways. There is a council car park at reculver, which is a short walk, but can get very busy in the summer. Lovely walk, with stunning views.

A quieter beach than Herne Bay's central beach but it is shingle rather than sand. Being shingle, it's not so easy for pushchair and wheelchair users but there is a level paved promenade behind. There's a pay and display car park at the harbour end of the town but it's quite expensive (£1.70 an hour in summer). If you want to you can stroll quite a long way towards Reculver Towers (which you can see in the distance).

Facing Telford Terrace is a quaisi Victorian sunken garden, erected to celebrate the twinning of Waltrop and Herne Bay. The sundial on the seaward side is a gift from Waltrop, designed by the burgermeister Herr Jochen Mungner. In the centre of the garden is a Portland stone fountain given to the town in 1888 by London Alderman Col. Horatio Davies, who became Lord Mayor of London. (This fountain was originally located near the clock tower).
Wonderful gardens with lovely flower beds and plenty of benches to sit and enjoy this peaceful oasis. There is a playground for little ones to enjoy.

Fabulous coastal walk taking in beaches, cliffs, and allsorts to see. The walk itself is well signposted, flat in most places, and lots of interest along the way. It was definitely helped by the fact we had blue skies even though walking at the end of September. Good fun looking out to sea watching the various ships as I head out towards the channel. Some great places for a picnic along the way too

Really good!! Not just the animals we saw but also what this all stands for. Loved the arctic foxes. From red squirrels to the wolves and bears to the sweet beavers. The rope bridge above the bears was great. I cant believe how anyone could give this attraction below 3 stars. Keep up the good work,l. ????

I live about 10 mins drive from this woods and it is great to visit at any time of year. I have never noticed the dog poo that people keep complaining about ! And yes I have a dog that I am look after very well! It is good to walk the circular trail plus go off the beaten path and discover your own routes!

Decided to travel to Whitstable from Canterbury via Herne Bay and so glad we did. Lovely views of the bay and up & down the beach, with the harbour and pier and an egret fishing in the shallows. Wind was quite bracing but it looked gorgeous. The beach huts are very attractive too - especially from behind (ie not the beach) funnily enough. Amy Johnson & Barnes Wallis are heroes of the town with statues commemorating them (particularly re WW2 work).

Not only "people watching" but the local cafe also sponsor a range of musicians to come and play either outside the cafe or on the bandstand stage. Last weekend we saw a great Elton John tribute act who worked his way through most of the accumulated repertoire. The seating in the bandstand is free and consists of rather splendid canvas 'director's chairs' that are comfortable to sit in for quite a while! Also included in this little area is a fantastic Indian restaurant , multiple free toilets and the aforementioned MacKaries cafe [which does a delicious coffee (either inside or out in the uncovered bandstand courtyard)]
