Halls Gap Zoo is Victoria's largest regional privately-owned zoo. View over 160 different species, including Giraffes, Cheetahs, Monkeys, Crocodiles, Kangaroos and Koalas along a 2.5Km wheelchair friendly path. Halls Gap Zoo is involved in several captive breeding programs for endangered species. Enjoy one of our animal encounters hand feeding the meerkats, playing with dingoes or holding an alligator or snake. Facilities include kiosk for snack food and souvenirs, a playground, toilets and an all-weather picnic area with free use of BBQ's. Bus tours, school groups, corporate events and family gatherings welcome
I had low expectations for what a zoo could offer in the grampians, however it was such an impressive zoo. There was such a range of animals, from pigs, monkeys, kangaroos, and giraffes. There is a map, which guides you through the zoo to ensure you see every animal. There is animal food sold at the entrance, so you are even able to feed free roaming deer, kangaroos and wallabies. I particularly liked the guineapigs, as there were so many of them, and lots of little babies.

The walk from the Zumsteins Picnic Ground to Fish Falls, in the beautiful Wartook Valley, is a delightful nature walk that follows the creek to the falls. A medium level of fitness is required, as there are some uneven sections and rocky ground in places. As well as beautiful fresh air and the sounds of birds, views of the creek break up the walk along the way. Fish Falls are accessible from 3 levels linked by sturdy metal stairs. From the top level you can rock hop over a few large boulders to access the track which continues on to the base of Mackenzie Falls. This is an easier option to get to the base of Mackenzie Falls (rather than the steep climb down and up from the Mackenzie Falls car park). All up the walk is about 7 km return, well worth the effort to enjoy the beautiful scenery and be immersed in the sights, smells and sounds of nature. Take a back pack and break the walk up with stops for lunch and snacks and you will have an enjoyable morning/afternoon outing.

The drive to the car park was lovely, the roadside in places adorned with an array of wildflowers (it is Spring). Unfortunately the day we chose to go on this very steep walk, there was a lot of low cloud and drizzly rain so the only scenery on the way up was the roadside flora, which were enjoyed on our many stops to catch our breath. On reaching the summit there was no view at all (as we had expected) due to the low cloud. We did not stay long before beginning our decent. We had not gone very far before the cloud began to lift with magical swirling cloud formations, giving us a peak at the landscape beyond. We decided to go back up to the summit and were rewarded with the most amazing 360 degree views of Grampians and the area surrounding it as the cloud totally lifted (we were very lucky). On the decent we were able to enjoy the surrounding landscape that we missed on the way up. So we had two very different experiences, both amazingly beautiful. Would definitely recommend but be prepared for a heart racing ascent. The road is sealed so you do not have to negotiate an uneven track, but it is very steep.

We visited Kalymna Falls Campground in Summer, there was no water in the stream so we didn't bother walking to the falls. But, we had a fabulous time walking over the rocks, logs and looking for lizards in amongst the rocks. They were everywhere! There was parking available, picnic tables, a fire pit and camping available. We'll definitely go back when there is some water. It is a beautiful spot!

Chatauqua Peak is the Top of Mt William near Halle Gap. To get up there you have to climb rocks, only for very experienced hikers!
This is part of a most enjoyable, fairly short walk with the reward of great views from the top. Well worth the effort.

An easy walk from the centre of Halls Gap, with two different paths to choose from... one from within the camping section of the Caravan park, one thru the botanic gardens. We chose different each way. When you get to the end, there are several pools to paddle in, depending on seasonal rainfall. Great fun after a sunny walk.
