La Rochelle has a lot to offer, the best being its food. The restaurants, (especially seafood) are excellent, and there are lots to choose. We spent 2 weeks in the city, staying in an apartment close to the harbour. The covered central market, open in the mornings is excellent for fresh produce, cheese, fish, fruit and vegetables. Just the other side of the harbour away from the hundreds of cafes and restaurants is the moderately priced Carrefour (City) .... and buses can take to you easily to outlying places, like the Ile de Rei, Minimes, and Chatellian Plage. Everywhere near the Old Port is walking distance. Not a cheap place to be, but thoroughly worthwhile.

We only visited the museum as we had just come from a fabulous lunch at Le Cayenne, and it was hysterical. There was a very cheesy (and slightly tongue-in-cheek) video including a chef explaining how to prepare and eat oysters, which was thoroughly enjoyed. Besides this it was very interesting to learn about how oysters are cultivated and the history behind them and the area, definitely entertaining! Spent about an hour in the museum, and it was worth it.

Worth the drive to the end of the island, great views, plentiful parking, small fee to climb the lighthouse. If you have small children or adults who wish to be children north beach access gives rock pools and interesting rock strata. There are cafes, shops but a lovely picnic site should you wish. Sadly the madding crowds are there in abundance.

The visit of the park it is to approach Myocastors, to give to them to eat, to photograph them, to observe them... It is also a friendly moment (approximately 1heure) during which you will discover a charming animal, a local and especially ecological economic activity. To visit the park, it is to adhere(subscribe) to an action(share) of environmental protection. Only in July and August from 2 pm till 6:30 pm. Closure(Lock) of the box office at 5:40 pm. Adult: 6 € and child from 3 to 12 years old: 4€ Novelty 2017: Gunter Sacckman's show(entertainment), seen at Patrick Sébastien and France has an incredible talent.
