Bought as a present. Fantastic experience from start to finish. The staff are so knowledgeable and obviously love their birds. Small group made the experience much more personal. We got to handle the birds and also had a flying display where we were allowed to have the birds flying to us and landing on our gloved hands. Totally enjoyable day for any animal lover.

The Animal Experience

The Animal Experience has moved to our new site at Stretham, a family business founded in 1995, offering hands on experiences with a wide variety of snakes, lizards, tarantulas, meerkats, coatis. We have Royal Pythons, Brazilian Rainbow Boa, Anaconda, Burmes Pythons, Cornsnakes, Milksnakes, Boa Constrictors, Leopard Geckos, Bearded Dragons, Blue Tongue Skinks, Turtles, Tortoises, Berber Skinks, Day Geckos, Tegus, Water Dragons, Tarnatulas, Cockroaches, Snails and Frogs and more in the Reptile room and our staff are happy to get some out for you to touch and hold, Outside in their purpose built enclosures we have 2 mobs of meerkats who love climbing on people and using you as their look out post - book a meerkat experience to spend 30 mins in with these cute creatures, feed them etc, then our gorgeous Coati's Yin and Yang who for adults only can be fed and climb on you - these are strong sturdy animals but very tame. Our Owls room is work in progress but Ronnie the Barn Owl is often there when not out at events - we attend schools, children's parties, wedding, corporate events and our animals are used for film and TV work. We operate a booking process so your family/group or just you can have an individual experience with a keeper so although we are small we are very hands on and love to give you any information about our wonderful animals many of which are rescued. We have a toilet on site but no cafe although offer cold drinks and chocolates, crisps, but very close is an indian/chinese buffet - Mango Valley and the Lazy otter Pub. Sat Nav sometimes takes you to a lay-by, we are the next turning on the right before A10 car sales if coming from Cambridge towards Stretham - we look forward to welcoming you.

Absolutely loved our time here! A great place with really friendly and knowledgeable staff that have a clear love for their animals. The animals are very well cared for with a large range of reptiles, insects, birds of prey, meerkats. Lots of things to see. The meerkat experience itself was amazing. So great to get to hold and spend time with them. They love the attention and it really was so much fun! Hazel was a great host, very friendly and relaxed. We really did have a great morning and couldn’t recommend coming here enough!! Thank you!!

The river Cam is a very calm pretty river and it is worth taking one of the punt trips the very friendly and knowledgeable guides keep you entertained with histories and stories of the college's you pass and the bridges you float beneath. On a sunny spring afternoon it was an absolutely pleasant way to while away an hour.

Anglesey Abbey

Scenic mansion features a unique collection of painted views of Windsor, spanning a 350-year period, and a 20th-century garden designed on the grounds of an Augustinian priory.

Reviewed By Y468WYpaulr - Wellingborough, United Kingdom

Admittedly, I haven't visited Anglesey Abbey in 'all seasons'. Yet. But if it is worth a visit in Winter, I think I can make that assumption. And it emphatically is. One feature in particular makes a Winter visit well worthwhile and that is the winter garden, where clever use of non-floral colour, along with the sculptural qualities of the trees, shrubs and plants make for a striking and unusual display. Beyond this, there are lawns and parkland, extensive woodland laced with walking trails, diverse statuary and follies, riverside scenery, an old working mill which you can visit, a rose garden and formal gardens around the Abbey. The house itself is gorgeous, externally and the interior is charmingly atmospheric. It is a (relatively) small, homelike stately pile and the rooms are packed with interesting artefacts. Signage and information provided by guides both inside and outside the house are of an unusually high standard and I found staff members friendly and helpful. There is a modern visitor centre with the usual National Trust gift shop full of quality gift items and a large cafeteria which sells good snacks, cakes and light meals. Anglesey Abbey is the sort of place, like Stowe, Waddesdon, Stourbridge or Wrest Park, that I will happily revisit many times - especially to see how the seasons change the scene. Highly recommended.

Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve

Reviewed By X1509WQdaveh - Colchester, United Kingdom

As National Trust members, the missus and I are drawn to places where we do not have to pay to get in. A short trip by motor car from Cambridge, we headed Wicken Fen driving across the flats of Cambridgeshire, overwhelmed by the amount of sky. On arrival, the first thing we did after the obligatory visit to the toilets was to book onto the boat trip. After a sandwich and a cup of tea, we joined our fellow mariners and walked down to the launch, the skipper talking about the fen and the way it was worked in the past. Once on board, a gentle cruise down the lode was a delight, with the skipper’s on-Board commentary providing a lot of information. Back on land, we continued our exploration of the Board walks, taking in a number of bird watching hides and a wind pump. We saw birds and butterflies, reeds and sedge as well as trees and other nature stuff. Finally, there was a visit to a Fenman’s cottage, preserved to be as it was. Very quaint, interesting and made me happy to be living in the 21st century.

Linton Zoo

At Linton Zoo, emphasis is on conservation and education, while providing an enjoyable family outing. There is a wealth of rare and exotic creatures to see including Tigers, Lions, Tapirs, Lemurs, Owls, Parrots, Giant Tortoises, Tarantula Spiders and many others. The zoo is an ever evolving attraction, set in 18 acres of gardens and woodland with plenty of picnic areas. It is generally considered a one and a half hour visit but some visitors do stay longer especially on days when there is a full programme of keeper talks and activities. The favourite of all is the animal encounter sessions. Many of the aviaries and enclosures are heavily planted so you need to be prepared to take your time at each exhibit. Bear in mind that Linton Zoo is a breeding centre for endangered species and is not a commercial entertainment centre. There are several options to enhance your visit with a behind the scenes tour, money raised from these special tours directly support field conservation projects through our charity. There are sometimes late closing evenings with extra special activities aimed at giving you a better understanding of specific animals, details are posted on our Facebook and website. Expect country park like pathways, some are gravel and sand others are grass, because of the large trees there are occasional roots. The zoo is more or less all out in the open so there is little shelter on wet days, if you visit on a day with rain expected please do come suitably dressed with waterproof footwear. Free parking is within zoo grounds and there is a basic children's play area. The one toilet block is situated on the car park area which is within the zoo grounds and as the zoo is quite compact it is within easy reach most times. There is also a coffee shop which serves a wide range of snack and lunch items as well as hot and cold drinks. We are open all year but restricted hours during the winter months. Visit our website for visit information including opening hours and details of activities at weekends and during the school holidays. Our Facebook page will keep you updated with all the latest news and of course the latest cute baby pictures.

Had an amazing day at Linton Zoo. I fed the lemurs in the morning which was incredible and great value for money at just £10 per person for around half an hour/40 Mins! The young girl who guided us was very informative and great at what she did. It was fun as the lemurs jump all over you and literally grab the carrot out of your hand. As for the Snow Leopard Experience, that was equally as amazing and was led by fellow keeper; John who was also great. Not as cheap as the lemur experience but at least I can say I’ve ticked that off of my bucket list. What Linton zoo do is great, their conservation work is admirable. It’s really worth a trip here, I travelled 56 ish miles for it and it was so worth it. I always prefer the smaller zoos as well. Staff were very friendly, reasonably priced zoo, Cafe serves tasty food and the animals are well loved and looked after and there is a good collection of animals too (particularly big cats) highly recommend!!

We visited the gardens in the middle of winter and were extremely impressed. There is a wonderful collection of trees, a lovely winter garden, fascinating plants from different climates in the glasshouses and a beautifully designed elevated walkway. The standard of maintenance in the garden is first class. From the Hills Road entrance you can catch a bus straight into the city centre.
