The stunning natural beauty of the Calanques along the South Coast of France is a must do. We went on a boat tour which departed from Marseille (booked through Airbnb experience) which was amazing, but there are so many ways to visit this national park.

Welcome to the “Auberge Cavalière du Pont des Bannes” a dreamland with its own stables, situated in the middle of Camargue’s heart in Provence. The country of horses, bulls and wild flamingos. It is the best way to discover the Camargue’s fauna & flora and enjoy an unforgettable horse ride. We offer excursions on horseback (from 8 years) in a small group. You can choose different types of outputs. We also offer lessons and for children from 4 years we can rent a pony. We work primarily with respect for our horses. They only come out two times per day with at least one day of total rest, we avoid high heat for their good slots be. In this context we offer you a quality saddlery. Finally the outputs are commented to allow you to discover our beautiful region.

This famous fortress, standing on a rocky island off the coast of Marseille, was immortalised by Alexandre Dumas in The Count of Monte Cristo as the prison where the novel’s hero, Edmond Dantes, was incarcerated before ultimately escaping. The castle was built by Francois I in 1524 and over the centuries it gained a fearsome reputation as many opponents of royal power were jailed and died in the fortress. The Castle of If has been perfectly preserved and is one of the most impressive historical sites on the Mediterranean coastline. We opted for this trip as part of our Marseille tourist pass. Enjoyable boat ride (great views on boat) in lovely warm weather and you can spend as much time as you like walking around. Fascinating history - there is no lift & area is uneven which was a little bit difficult for our elderly relatives but we had plenty of time to explore which helped. Walk up is steep in parts too. Nice cafe with wonderful view and prices not too bad - we just had drinks & ice cream.

I am happy we took a guided tour of the Camargue because the guide was very informative. He bought us to pet the white horses of Camargue. He explained the differences between Camargue and Spanish bulls. Took us to a small village on the sea called St. Marie and finally we went to observe the flamingos ... All of this in about 4 hours.

it's worth the walk uphill , it completes the visit to Paul Cézanne's atelier. Copies of his paintings on the mountain St Victoire are placed in the park facing the real mountain. Access by bus too.

Many of our group had mixed feelings about zoos before going here.. how fair is it to the the animals? Are they cared for properly.. We visited la barben with these concerns in mind.. Im happy to say that on visiting our concerns were allayed.. We visited in july 2018.. the zoo is clean and tidy.. all of the animals looked well and well cared for.. all of the enclosures were large.and varied with plenty for the animals to see and look at.. the enclosures are also well designed to let us have a really good look at the magnificent animals.. lots of focus here on conservation and education.. When we visited it wasnt too busy and a nice feature was that there are lots of trees and shade and loads of seating areas.. good cafe facilities.. toilets really clean and tidy.. Overall highly reccomended for all family.. One final tip.. the stairs marked on the map are both steep, long and a little slippery .. be warned if you are infirm or have any disabilities etc

A protected natural site of 1,200 hectares at the junction in between the Rhône’s delta and the Crau steppe, the Marais du Vigueirat is classified as a National Nature Reserve and is one of the most remarkable properties of the Conservatoire du Littoral in Camargue. There are over 2,000 animal and plant species: more than 300 bird species have been observed (herons, flamingos, birds of prey), and 5 bull and horse breeders of Camargue’s race graze all year on the domain. With or without a guide, by foot, horseback or a horse-drawn carriage, come and discover Camargue’s nature!
