Welcome to Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (Natural History Museum Berlin). Comprising over 30 million collection items, an exhibition area of over 7,000 square metres and a Research Department, the Museum für Naturkunde is the largest German natural history museum. On a global scale, it is among the top five natural history museums. It was founded in 1810. Some of the exhibition highlights include the "Fossil Mona Lisa" one of the only 11 finds of the primeval bid Archaeopteryx, the 13,27-metre tall skeleton of Brachiosaurus which is the tallest mounted dinosaur skeleton worldwide, our Biodiversity wall and many more storytelling objects like original items collected by Alexander von or a piece of pitchblende in which the element uranium was discovered.
If you want to wowed by dinosaurs, go to this museum. It's smaller than similar museums in London and Washington, but the exhibits are very well laid out. And of course, it's the only place with the most famous fossil in the world, the Berlin Archaeopteryx. Apart from the dinosaurs - including the full size T-Rex and Brachiosaurus - it has a nice astronomy show on a moving ceiling screen that families lie back and watch, plus the usual assortment of stuffed animals etc. Many but not all captions are in German and English. When we went, there was a temporary exhibition on photographic art and recycling, which was very good.

The Ruhr Museum is easily one of the best and most interesting museums I have ever visited anywhere in the world. Naturally, the fact the museum is in a HUGE, old industrial building is in itself extremely interesting. It's almost like one day the machines were just switched off, and then the next day a museum bloomed inside. Spread out over several floors, you will have to spend a day or even two to really see and read everything in the museum (most description cards were only in German, if I remember correctly, but there was also English for much of the museum). You can also go to the rooftop for wonderful views of the Zollverein complex. Obligatory giftshop and toilets available inside, as well. In the museum you'll gain an understanding of the impact the Ruhr Gebiet (Ruhr Valley/Area) had on the local population - how it was essentially their livelihood - and a good understanding of the impact industrialization has had on the environment, and what's being done about it today. There are numerous mining objects, countless gems, rocks, animals, etc., so many you'd think you actually went to a natural history museum. I can't express how fantastic this museum was. There is so much to see and the building itself and old mining machinery just make this an awesome experience. Highly recommended!

Visit Museum Wiesbaden, the Hesse State Museum of Art and Nature. The museum's exhibits range from natural history objects to contemporary art. Its collections „Old Masters“, „19th Century and Art Nouveau“, „Classic Modernism“, „Contemporary Art and Modernism“ on the one hand, and the Natural History Collections on the other hand, are connected in a ‘round trip‘ tour uniting the aesthetic experience of both its art and natural history exhibits. The museum owns an important collection of the work of Alexej von Jawlensky. Since June 2019 Museum Wiesbaden displays the Art Nouveau collection of Ferdinand Wolfgang Neess as a permanent exhibition in its southern wing. Its more than 570 objects provide a cross section of all Art Nouveau genres, including prime examples of the quality and stylistic virtuosity boasted by late 19th-century art. Along with the Frankfurt Museum of Modern Art, it is one of the most important museums for Modernism in Hessen.
This museum is close to downtown and easy to get to. Two separate museums. One is art and the other is natural history. The main rotunda is 4 stories high and has a unique mirror system that lets you see all around the top of the rotunda. From the old masters to the new, the art covers all types.
