Although originally known as a summer destination, when the first snowflakes land in St. Moritz, so do the international scenesters, bundled up in the latest "Must Have" accessories. During winter, catch a ride on the Glacier Express from Zermatt to arrive in style. Cable cars ascend to three nearby mountaintops. Hundreds of miles of ski trails and a frozen lake comprise the area's most popular sports venues. Follow the Romans example and try one of the city's mineral springs, such as St. Moritz Bader.

The Museum of Engadine Culture was built in 1906, on the initiative of Riet Campell, a passionate collector. It looks at first glance like an age-old Engadine house. The outside has all the typical features: the sgraffito-style door and window frames, the Romansh inscriptions, and the traditional oriel window. In fact, the house is little more than a hundred years old and was constructed as museum by the famous architect Nicolaus Hartmann Junior of St. Moritz. The panelled living rooms, or stüvas as they are known locally, have come from farmhouses and village houses in the Engadine and surrounding valleys. They give you a wonderful insight into the lifestyles of affluent local families over the last five centuries.

The Berry Museum, housed in the century-old Villa Arona in the heart of St. Moritz, is dedicated to the doctor and painter Peter Robert Berry II (1864 – 1942). In the course of forty years, hundreds of compositions are created in charcoal, pastel and oil, from miniatures to impressive winter panoramas. The complete oeuvre, including music, poems and philosophical essays is preserved at the Berry Museum. High-resolution digital imaging allows for phenomenal perspectives.

There is a Mili Weber signposted walking tour near the lake by St Moritz that drew my attention to the existence of this house/museum (and it would work well to do both in combination). It is only possible to visit inside the house by prearranged tour at set times, but I found this easy and quick enough to arrange via their website just a couple of days in advance. The house itself and lifestyle you hear about is very otherworldly, like an old Disney fairytale. Apart from all the charming art work, it is worth visiting the house even from an historical perspective. As a solo visitor, I ended up with a private English tour, which was both interesting and friendly. No photos were allowed but at the end of the tour there is a gift shop with plenty of cards and souvenirs to consider. Everything, including the tour ticket, was a fair price.

Robilant+Voena is one of the world's leading old master galleries, based in London, Milan and St. Moritz, dealing also in classic modern and contemporary art. The gallery remit is unusually broad - encompassing old master and nineteenth century painting with a particular focus on the Italian and French schools; as well as classic modern, Italian post-war and contemporary art.
