Port Elizabeth or The Bay (Xhosa: iBhayi; Afrikaans: Die Baai [di ˈbɑːi]) is one of the largest cities in South Africa; it is situated in the Eastern Cape Province, 770 km (478 mi) east of Cape Town. The city, often shortened to PE and nicknamed "The Friendly City" or "The Windy City", stretches for 16 km along Algoa Bay, and is one of the major seaports in South Africa. Port Elizabeth is the southernmost large city on the African continent, just farther south than Cape Town.

Hand in Hand Visual Art Studio's is an art studio with gallery space. Located in the Motherwell Township in the Nelson Mandela Metropolis owned by Sakhumzi and Msindisi Nyendwana. Enjoy a township walk before entering the Art Studio and Artist home of the Hand in Hand Brothers. Bring a snack or better arranged support a local vendor who will provide you with a local favorite snack. The Studio is currently converting for new collaborative business and your support brings us closer to our goal.
We so enjoyed our tour given by local artist and inspiration, Sakumzi. What he and his brother are doing in their community is inspiring...teaching the local youth about art through expression is something to see. They are making a difference and their art (which is for sale) is just as impressive.

Uitenhage is the main manufacturing and head office for VW South Africa. It's worth the trip to see it, and how companies like Volkswagen are contributing to the South African economy. It's about a 30-40 minute drive from Port Elizabeth, so make sure if you are a visitor to South Africa as we were that you plan your route and use a GPS. VW makes the Polo here and it is a complete manufacturing and assembly complex. You must book ahead. Before the factory tour visitors can walk through the VW Pavilion and Museum which contains many famous Volkswagen models and tells the story of the company in South Africa.

This carefully restored 1827 cottage is Port Elizabeth’s oldest Settler’s house.
I visited here recently and was pleasantly surprised. The house is well maintained and gives a glimpse of another era.

Collections consist of South African art (particularly that of the Eastern Cape), British art, international printmaking and Oriental art (including Indian miniatures and Chinese textiles). These are supplemented by an active programme of temporary exhibitions.
Quite a few really good exhibits in here showing great local art, photography, fashion as well as older pieces. If you only see one gallery in PE, this should be the one.
