An open, working pottery studio in the historic heart of Swellendam. Visitors are welcome to the studio and gallery in the delightful grounds of their Heritage House, 'Bukkenburg', bordering the Drostdy Museum Complex. A wide-ranging selection of work is on display in the gallery. Packing and shipping service guarantees reliable delivery to any destination. Exhibitions, Open Studio Weekends, commissions and special personalised workshops for small groups. This home studio can be seen at almost any time; they will even open up after hours. To avoid disappointment, it is advisable to call ahead if travelling from afar. Accommodation at the studio.
we were two families with total of 5 kids visiting ranging from 2 to 10. The experience of watching David make a piece then teaching each child to make their own bowl on the wheel was incredible. David has patience for all ages and really was able to help each child create a unique piece. the studio is beautiful and has so much to look at if big and small pieces! I’d recommend making an appointment ahead to be sure to have enough time for the workshop which was so easy with a call ahead the day before. The kids learned so much while visiting and the gardens to walk around in were beautiful and inspiring!

The Genadendal Mission Museum strives towards being a dynamic institution, which focuses on the preservation of the Genadendal heritage. This heritage is understood to encompass the culture and history of the inhabitants, mainly of mission stations, and their relationship with the people in South Africa and the world. In order to do this we develop, preserve and exhibit these collection.
This museum rates for me one of the best historical experiences of my life! I learned so much about my own country’s history! And it was really special to have a guide explain the history of the Moravian church. It makes a museum visit special to have someone to tell the story behind the story. Well done guys! Really special!

This former government building, an architectural treasure in itself, is now a museum containing some impressive artifacts. Particularly noteworthy is a collection of late 18th and early 19th century Cape furniture.
Open air type museum with numerous buildings displaying bygone lifestyles and crafts. Including a magistrates home with courthouse. Lovely couple of hours wander.

John the Potter is a potter living and working in Betty's Bay and his gallery and studio which is on the main road of Betty's Bay is open to the public daily; his gallery has a large selection of his well known reduction fired work and also his raku work. It is a great space to see John's work and to meet him and see him at work in his studio, a must see for all Betty's Bay visitors
We really admired the work in this gallery--porcelain tiles, raku, moziacs and brilliant glazes. It was a sponaneous stop because the walkway to the gallery was eye catching and a very nice find along the road.
