The 10 Best Museums in Napa Valley, Napa Valley

September 4, 2021 Emerita Lamoureux

Vines, wines and the people who love them are central to the economy of Napa Valley. Other treats for taste buds are in store, too, in the form of local olive oils, tomatoes, cheeses and mustard. The other senses are catered for with a vibrant visual arts scene. Rent a car or book a taxi or limousine to get between sights safely. The Napa Valley Wine Train offers an unusual way to experience the views and vintages. A relaxing array of spas and mud baths and the Old Faithful geyser are attractions in Calistoga.

My visit to Quent Cordair Fine Art Gallery was the highlight of my visit to Napa. Linda Cordair was a gracious and knowledgeable host; she welcomed us warmly, gave us a brief orientation, and invited us to enjoy the art at our own pace, letting us know she was nearby to answer any questions. I was there with a mixed group: my best friend, my two age-20-ish children, and my 94-year-old mom, and each of us found different pieces to fall in love with. The gallery features stunning works of art, so many and so beautiful that I want to return to experience it all again. Highly recommend this oasis of calm refreshment for the soul.

Gordon Huether Studio

The "Hay Barn" houses Gordon Huether's design studio, project gallery, fabrication facilities, administrative offices and gallery. Guests are welcome to visit Gordon Huether Studio + Gallery. The Gallery is located at 1821 Monticello Road in Napa, CA and is open Monday through Friday, from 9 AM - 4 PM. Gordon Huether's enormously successful career, spanning several decades, has involved large-scale art installations, many executed in the medium of glass. In recent years he has begun exploring different media and a more challenging direction in his smaller-scale fine artwork. Using the seductive properties of richly saturated color, a wide array of natural and artificial light sources, luscious and diverse texture, found materials and quirky, sometimes unsettling imagery, his work offers viewers a complex intellectual experience.

Oliver Caldwell and Susan Snyder have the best eyes for art! Whenever I have a bit of time on my hands in St. Helena, I always gaze at the wonderful pieces in their gallery. The extremely high ceilings and great openness of the space makes the display of the artwork a delight to see. Always fresh and new - it fills my senses until my next visit!

A small specialty museum, basically one large room, the museum details the life and times of Robert Louis Stevenson and his family. Most of the artifacts in the museum are Stevenson originals. While the signage is interesting, the staff are wonderful and willing to talk about Stevenson and his life and works.
