The 10 Best Museums in Makrygianni, Attica

February 21, 2022 Esmeralda Fenner

Once known for smog, traffic and tacky architecture, Athens is a city reformed thanks to fortunes brought by the 2004 Summer Olympics. Spotless parks and streets, an ultra-modern subway, new freeways, an accessible airport and all signs in perfect English make the city easily negotiable. Meriting more than a stopover en route to the islands, sophisticated Athens sites include many pillars of Western history, from the Acropolis to the Temple of Olympian Zeus, as well as treasures in the National Archaeological Museum.

We spent an entire afternoon (to avoid the rain) here so the entry fee was good value. Most of the machines were working and I think we collectively played over 80 pinball machines! From the 1960s to present day. Friendly staff and a something really unusual. Worth a visit!

In Athens 10 Gallery I found a variety of art objects from original paintings by various artists, among them the very talented Vangelis Agnantopoulos who happens to be the owner of the place. I also liked the unique pieces of ceramics, also by important Greek artists and the original jewels at very affordable prices. Check also the hand painted straw hats! I enjoyed the coolness, the calmness of this place and the very zen approach of the people who run it. I strongly recommend it. I will definitely return to Art 10 Gallery.

I visited the shop a few days ago after seeing it on a TV program with my friend. The shop assistant was very welcoming and happy to help us try on a couple of pairs to find our favourite style. They were then carefully fitted to our feet, and as the shop was quiet we only had a short wait for them to be completed, and we are both delighted with our beautiful new sandals! A real hidden gem in Athens and definitely worth a visit!

The Art of Turtle

The turtle is an ancient symbol of balance and is portrayed as the world’s equalizer, the principle of creation and the conservator of everything. In the heart of Athens, in a small workshop, Katerina Rodopoulou gets inspired and creates her jewelery. Behind each jewel there is a symbolism, a hidden meaning. Two collections, two concepts: The “Balance of Elements Collection” & The “Constellation Collection”. In her first collection, the five elements of nature and their special features are represented by five symbolic animals, while the jewelery of the second collection depicts the formations of the star, the so called constellations and bring to life the stunning stories of the rich Greek mythology.
