A beautiful house filled with antiques -- it is well worth waiting to join a guided tour in order to get the most out of your visit, as many of the objects in the main house have short (rather than detailed) labels for visitors to read. Our guide, Stanley, was friendly and knowledgeable, giving us a great insight into the history of the family who had built and lived in the house, as well as taking us through the extensive collections on display. Stanley was very happy to answer questions from our little group and made our visit a fascinating, very memorable one!

it's a very nice place here. You are going to love it if you are interested in photography or films. The manager there is very knowledgeable but she speaks a little bit faster. Price is rm10 for students price and we spent about 1 hour therem definitely worth your time and place. Just an advice herr, strictly no recording. We snapped an Instagram boomerang and the manager is kinda paranoid but i understand. Photos are allowed there but they have 0 tolerance for video recording

Beautiful stain glass, wonderfully preserved antiques, lovely garden, gracious and funny guide and host - this all made up for an unforgetable time.

Teochew Puppet and Opera House

Situated in an old-style Penang house with its long, narrow architecture and a central atrium, Teochew Puppet and Opera House is a museum of Teochew opera art, the first of its kind in Malaysia. The museum contains exhibits of Teochew iron-rod puppets as well as costumes and props from live-size Teochew opera, telling the story of a remarkable family of opera performers over five generations. Visitors may also try on authentic opera costumes and try their hand at manipulating the unique iron-rod puppets. Though it is primarily an exhibition space, the Teochew Puppet & Opera House still occasionally holds opera performances, talks and workshops in the premises after hours.

I so remember watching Teochew Puppets and Chinese opera in general as a child, but never kept it up. So it brought back a lot of good memories to visit this museum and seeing all the costumes and puppets. This museum is very close to the Sun Yat Sen Museum on the same street, so it’s good to combine the two visits while here.
