Cantigny Park and the area is a great place to go for a ice walk in nature, visit an ornate mansion, and learn about military history. It’s got to be one of the top places to visit in the Chicago west suburbs.

Museum with interactive exhibits on the trenches of WWI, the beaches of WWII and the rice paddies of Vietnam.
The tanks outside were incredible to get up close to. My husband and son are huge military buffs and were impressed to see the tanks on display outside on the grounds. I myself tagged along but was not bored at all looking at the tanks. Inside the museum are wonderful displays depicting all phases of wars that the 1st was involved in. The grounds had wonderful gardens to wander through. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Believe me, I spent 13 years in the ceramics lab at College of DuPage, back in the 80's and 90's. I had a artist's in residence status, that allowed me keys to come and go. I spent many hours of my spare time enjoying the friendship of many different instructors and students, while working on my own techniques in porcelain art. Recently, I ran into one of my inner circle buddies from that group, while at an art fair in Geneva. Kate Keilty had her own booth, and told me how things at C.O.D. fell apart when a new department head took over. They were no longer happy to have students repeat the course in ceramics, over and over. Some people were production potters, and were using the studio too much. So a group of ceramic artists broke away to start their own co-op, and began what is today Clay Place. That's what my attention, and I went to see it for myself a few days later. I was impressed by the number of kilns, the types of kilns, the huge area being utilized for wheels, tables, and storage. I got a full tour, and was totally impressed. The classes are taught by professional ceramic artists, as well as ones with teaching backgrounds. Supplies were priced reasonably, because of their co-op, Not-for -profit status. I am currently working in fused glass, at a studio about ten minutes from this location, and have a good place to sell my jewelry as well as doing trunk shows. If I went back to ceramics, I would go to ClaySpace in a heartbeat. I have told all my friends who have shown an interest in clay that I highly recommend this fine environment for learning and personal growth in all things clay.

The Lizzadro Museum recently relocated to Oak Brook. We opened our doors in our new facility on November 12, 2019. Our museum was founded by Joseph Lizzadro in order to share his love of Lapidary Art with others. The Museum opened its doors in Elmhurst on November 4, 1962 with this statement of purpose from the Lizzadro Family, "To share with others our enjoyment of the eternal beauty in gemstones and our appreciation of the art with which man has complemented the works of nature". The museum is still owned and operated by the Lizzadro Family.
The Museum has just reopened with limited visitation (due to the Covid-19 Pandemic). I went on a Saturday and was the only visitor, otherwise it was just the staff. Although they wanted/preferred reservations, I was allowed in without one since there weren't others. The Museum boasts a large collections of Jade carving, Rocks from different countries and interactive screens. I spent about an hour at the museum.

My son is 8y.o. and it takes us 45 -60 min. to get there but totally worth it. Kids are engaged in numerous activities while learning about electricity, kinetics, magnetism, etc.It feels more like a huge playground rather than a museum. They even have an area where kid can make something out of wood using real tools ( hammer, saw, waise, screwdriver, nails). Absolutely love it!

Native Chicagoans often forget or tend to overlook the fact that there is more to the history of the area than what happened before and after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Chicago's vast network of suburbs have a lot of history to tell. For example, when I was living in Wheaton, I learned about the tavern that catered to travelers on the old stagecoach road from Chicago to Galena. And now I've learned about Naper Settlement, a 12-acre outdoor history museum that consists of a collection of 30 historical buildings and structures from the Naperville, Illinois, area. Established in 1969 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, Naper Settlement, located at 523 South Webster Street, is situated on land bequeathed to the City of Naperville in 1936 by Caroline Martin Mitchell, whose father made his riches after he co-founded the Naperville Tile and Brick Works and built Pine Craig, a historic 12-room mansion that is part of Naper Settlement. Many of the buildings in Naper Settlement were moved here from their original locations and refurbished in a style fitting of their time periods that range from 1831, when Naperville was founded, through the early 20th century. Naper Settlement is an outdoor history museum that offers numerous special events, including Civil War Days, a two-day reenactment where the settlement is converted into a large encampment, featuring more than 300 actors and actresses who re-enact historical life and battles.

I stop here almost always when I need to breath between meetings and clients . Perfect spot for a short or longer walk and for relaxing. I went to the museum once so now I just walk around it’s grounds.

To this day, some people aren't aware that the world-famous evangelist Billy Graham began his ministry as a student at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. The Billy Graham Center Museum, opened in 1980, is designed to help visitors "extend their understanding of the good news about Jesus" and contains exhibits about the history of Christian evangelism in the United States and the ministry of Billy Graham. Located at 500 College Avenue on the Wheaton College campus, is is open from 10 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday. It also is the primary location for many of the college's Bible and theology classes. It is a family-oriented museum with rare artifacts and interactive displays that begin with the early history of Christian evangelism and its influence on American society and climax with a powerful walk-through presentation of the Gospel message. The museum, which consists of 20,000 square feet of permanent and temporary exhibit space, starts with the Rotunda of Witnesses, which houses nine stunning tapestries depicting great witnesses for the Gospel, and proceeds to the History of Evangelism in America, then the Cross of the Millennium, the Life and Ministry of Billy Graham and Walk through the Gospel. Another interesting exhibit is the Life of George Beverly Shea, the beloved singer at Graham's crusades around the world.
