An interesting and dynamic regional gallery where there is always lots to see. Upstairs, the gallery collection is definitely worth a visit, as the Gallery holds one of the best regional collections in the country and is always looking for interesting, thought-provoking ways of displaying it. Downstairs there are temporary exhibitions, with at least four open at any one time.
The Art Gallery of Ballarat is not impressive from the outside, but inside it is amazing. The first level is mainly visiting exhibitions and contemporary art, and the second level is a selection from the gallery's permanent collection. It has art by many prominent artists, dating from the 19th century and including Australian modernists. The Art Gallery of Ballarat has one of the best collections in Australia.

At Sovereign Hill, the story of an important time and place in Australian History, and the people who lived it, lives on. An internationally acclaimed tourist attraction, Sovereign Hill prides itself on its close attention to detail found in every aspect of this living, outdoor museum. Sovereign Hill is a glimpse of the vigour and excitement of life on Australia’s 1850s goldfields. Visitors can find real gold in the creek – gold pans are provided and it’s ‘finders keepers’, see $150,000 worth of molten gold poured into a gleaming bar, and take in the rich program of activities, shows and demonstrations. On Main Street there are working shops, hotels and a theatre – all based on original Ballarat businesses. Visitors are able to watch goldfields tradespeople in action and take a ride around the township in a horse-drawn coach. For the brave hearted, journey underground on a gold mine tour.
Couldn’t have had a better day at Sovereign Hill. Wonderful gold mine tour guide James, fabulous magician, great horse carts, all staff cheerful and happy all day, and those lights at night! Wow! Wow! So magical!

The Gold Museum extends Sovereign Hill’s story of Ballarat - a majestic provincial city built on the wealth derived from the great Australian gold rushes of the 1850s.An impressive glass-fronted building with commanding views, the Gold Museum offers an award-winning gift shop specialising in the sale of gold nuggets and Australian-made gold jewellery and fine giftware.Discover the beauty and power of gold as you view an impressive and valuable collection of gold nuggets, alluvial deposits, priceless gold artefacts and gold coins.‘Ballarat: Inspired by Gold’ is a major exhibition presenting the story of Ballarat from its earliest days through to European settlement and the amazing impact of the gold rushes. Entry to the Gold Museum is free with your Sovereign Hill ticket. Separate entry is also available
We ended up going to the Gold Museum after purchasing day tickets to Sovereign Hill (located opposite the museum). Tickets seemed expensive at $58.50 each, but after being told they included entry to the Gold Museum & can be used over 2 days, we decided they were quite reasonable. We didn't have enough time to see both places in one day, so after visiting Sovereign Hill, we returned the following day to look at the museum. We thoroughly enjoyed looking at the interesting displays & collections, plus gold nuggets, artefacts & coins. We spent some time in the gift shop. It was full of wonderful, and some very unique, gifts including gold nuggets, jewellery and giftware. This is a fantastic place to visit if you're interested in history or gold, specifically the gold rush days of the 1850s. After seeing both, we thought we should have bought an annual ticket ($119) so we can visit as often as we like.

The Eureka Flag is housed on the historic site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade and is surrounded by the scenic Eureka Stockade Memorial Gardens. Formerly known as the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka, the Eureka Centre is being re-imagined for the community with a stronger emphasis on the struggle of the young miners who fought for their rights and made an indelible mark on democracy in Australia. There is a gift shop and a cafe onsite offering snacks and lunches for visitors and the local community.
Beautiful spot with history of promise ,loss, wealth, luck and a lot of hardship. Through struggle for justice came blood shed. Amazing to see original flag, thank you the KING family. Can appreciate it's importance and why so strongly looked up to as it flew above the gold fields .Tanya the Centre attendant was fantastic ,greeted us all with a smile, great ambassador for the Eureka Centre and extremely friendly ,obliging and informative. To Listen to narrative of Clara Seekamps articles she wrote as a female activist of the times was really moving should be read in classes today . Do not forget though that along the way we also mistreated the first peoples of this land who had greeted us, yet we did not all show respect in return. Grounds around are tranquil and do not reflect the past now, definitely a MUST see and visit
