The Leskowsky Musical Instrument Museum is one of a kind in Hungary. We have hunderds of musical instruments from around the world amongst the traditional Hungarian instruments take a big and important place. This is not a usual museum. Here you can touch, feel, play most of the instruments. You can sit on the cushions on the carpet or even lay down if you like. Every visitor experiences a one hour live-music presentation in a relaxed, funny manner about the collection. Yes, in English, too!

You can't miss this place. Fabulous designs on the outside of the building. Inside are interesting collections by famous Hungarian painters. The Peacock room is extremely beautiful too.

We came to Kiskunhalas and looked for museums. This particular one is more of what we like. Thorma Janos was a Hungarian paintor very famous with an extensive well recognized career. He was a representative of a movement of painters called Nagybánya Artists' Colony. Nagybánya is now in Romania and it is called Baia Mare. He transitioned through different styles like Naturalism, Historical, Romantic Realism, Post Impressionism. At times it seems that there were different painters since the styles vary so much . After the Treaty of Trianon which formally ended WWI, and which left Hungary with only 28% of the original land that was the pre-WWI Kingdom of Hungary, Nagybánya went to the Kingdom of Romania. Many Artist left the town but Thorma Janos remained there. He died in 1937 at age 67. His work has been more recognized in Hungary in recent years and the Hungarian National Gallery has an exhibition of over 100 paintings from T. J. I loved his work.

In the center of kalocsa is the Holy Trinity Square. On one side stands the majestic cathedral (one of the four the archbishop seats in Hungary); on another side stands the magnificent Bishp's palace; on the third side, St. Stephen's home and on the top floor, you'll find this samll, highly specialized museum. Most folks don't know how laborious, tedious and labor intensive the production of fine paprika is. As a result, to this day, this remains a cottage industry, with individual families dedicated to the planting, careful maintenance, harvesting and processing of these delicate plants. Kalocsa is one of the centers of the finest sweet paprika, and no other place in the world produces the same quality. The museum explains in great detail how this specialty product is produced and how important qiuality control is to maintain this outstanding spice. Don't miss this museum.
