Tors Drive-in Cinema

Reviewed By jennytalbot - Charters Towers, Australia

If you haven't already been to the Tors Drive-in, you best put it on the bucket list without further ado! Charters Towers is just 1 hour and a bit drive from the city of Townsville, and is home to the fabulous Tors Drive-in Cinema. The cinema has kept the old time feel, and one would be forgiven for thinking they have stepped back in time once you pass through the ticket box! A fantastic evening out for the family, where you can see 2 movies for under $10 per head (cheaper for kids), and feed the family with burger and snack prices that have seen very little price rise in decades. Take a chair, take a mattress, sit in the car or at the kiosk, it is a wonderful, carefree atmosphere at the Tors where you can watch a movie, or gaze at the stars. You can even take you fur kids (if they can behave themselves). If you choose to make a weekend of it, Charters Towers has a wide range of accommodation to cater to all budgets and needs. I would rate the Tors #1 thing to do in Charters Towers!

I saw an advert for Warrina cineplex in the local paper so I gave it a try. It’s cleaner than most cinemas. Tickets and food are good value. The clearly posted standards of dress & behaviour mean that everyone can have a good experience. I will be going back once blockbusters are being released again.

HOTA - "Home Of The Arts"...at last the Gold Coast has a cultural hub which for a city it's size is suitable for all, genres and types of entertainment. Congratulations to all involved in seeing this project come to fruition. Earlier in the year, I had the privilege to catch Laurie Anderson doing some projects/colaberations all of which were excellent...especially her concert for dogs. She effectively "opened" the NEW amphitheatre at HOTA, a real coup by the organisers. Now Nick Cave was here also, another great coup, "What do you want to know", an answer and question session interspersed with some wonderful songs by Nick from his vast catalogue in the main concert hall.... Great night great venue. Also checked out the art gallery, a must see for any music fans of the Gold Coast over the last 30 years or so Cafe food was rather scrumptious and for Nick a local brewer had a popup bar there as well....great work !!!

The Elizabeth Picture Theatre

Reviewed By 396anitah - Upper Coomera, Australia

Stepping through these doors, will offer a retreat that returns you to a seat of nostalgic pleasure & old world charm. The Elizabeth picture theatre tells us that you really can go back to those scenes of love, moments of rapture or to investigate crime; to be carried away & swept up into virtual worlds. Such wise, careful & clever decisions leave thoughts of what remains: ‘Cead mile failte’ - a hundred thousand welcomes is the Irish greeting that still hangs in the air. This beautiful heritage listed building dating back to 1878 has been beautifully & lovingly restored by the Sourris brothers & offers an intimate setting to view your favourite movies on her screens. From the Harp room to the Royal rooms, the Elizabeth picture theatre displays a regal bearing that brings it's audience great delight. The charm comes from so much exquisite, detail. This architectural design that holds so much art within it's walls, speaks of a Notable excellence, from the memorabilia, the posters, the lead light windows, and the ornamental plaster filigrees lining her ceilings. Everywhere you look she captures your eye. Perhaps it was quite befitting that ‘Promising young woman’ should be our first tickets bought.
