Think you need an ocean for a beach? Think again. There are miles and miles of sandy lakefront beaches in Michigan (thanks to the four Great Lakes that border it). The west coast of Michigan has especially nice beaches—try a rental in Muskegon, Grand Haven or Saugatuck. You won’t need a car when visiting Mackinac Island. In fact, they’re not allowed—this lovely Victorian resort town is pedestrian-only.

Stayed here with my family years ago and loved the experience so I was excited to come back with my husband and it did not disappoint! The bonfires on the beach are definitely the highlight, so cozy with beautiful views and complimentary s’more bags! The breakfast is decent compared to what a lot of places offer these days (eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffle makers). No the rooms aren’t 5-star hotel quality but they are clean, comfortable, quiet and they seem to have been updated some since my last stay. All in all I 100% will continue to choose this place any time I travel to mackinaw and highly recommend to anyone considering it!

The Frankenmuth Motel is AAA approved and locally owned and operated. The Motel is one street off of Main street, just 2 blocks North of Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland. We are situated between Michigan's Own Military and Space Museum and Zeilinger Wool Company. The Motel has 53 ground floor rooms and (following State Law) we are all non-smoking. The Motel does have a outdoor smoking area. We also have a limited number of pet rooms with a small cleaning fee. Coffee is available in our office/front desk area during office hours and a cold continental breakfast is available every morning. We may not be located on Main Street but we are only about 5 blocks from most Festivals and the RiverPlace Shops. We are only 8 blocks from Bavarian Inn and Zehnder's Restaurants downtown and all of Main Street has Free Parking. Within walking Distance of Zehnder's Splash Village.
Our group got a block at the Frankenmuth Motel for an event on the grounds of the Bavarian Inn and were very happy with our choice. Clean, quiet, large rooms with ample room for walking our dogs (and we religiously cleaned up after our dogs, as we appreciated the management's opening up extra rooms for dogs than they normally allow to accomodate our group). All ground floor rooms with easy parking for loading and unloading, ample outdoor lighting, and nicely appointed rooms with everything working nicely. The staff was very friendly. It was a very enjoyable week's stay and we would all happily return again to the Frankenmuth Motel.

Staying in a drive up motel is so much easier than a big hotel when you have mobility issues, and we brought the dog so also much easier. The owners have done well with this little gem & we will definitely stay here again. I used to manage a high end resort so I am a little picky & the real life Sunset Lodge met what I was able to view online. I expected road noise but it was very quiet & towels/pillows were soft. I highly recommend it.

This motel is all about value. The ceiling fan in the bathroom was loud, the air conditioner rattled and everything looks a little dated BUT it was clean, the staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable. If I was paying top dollar I would have been annoyed, but for the price range it was a decent value and a great stay. Breakfast also included!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Empire Lakeshore Inn. Thanks to the staff member who helped me with my reservation on very short notice. Very satisfied with the attractive room. The bed was quite comfortable and we rested well. The linens and toiletries were a notch above the norm. Every convenience is nearby for food and gasoline. This was my first post-lockdown stay and Empire Lakeshore Inn was a really nice re-introduction to travel.

Free table served breakfast in a quiet adult atmosphere. We are a mid-century motel with boutique style rooms and a serene courtyard. Wine to taste and by the glass or bottle. Children 16 and older. No smoking on property and No pets!
My mom and I booked a room for a stay after our trip over to Ludington on the Badger. It is just a short drive away from the dock and conveniently located in town. The gardens surrounding the hotel are beautiful, and the spot out back with the koi pond is restful and quiet. Our two double bed room was very clean and neat and cozy with all the amenities you would need. We were able to sit outside on the boardwalk just outside our room for a while on the folding chairs provided, enjoying the breeze. The plantings around the inn are beautiful and interesting for gardeners and botanists and provide a soothing backdrop to this cute little inn. The included breakfast was ready at our chosen time and was fresh and delicious. There was even cold brewed coffee available with ice and caramel to add in. The atmosphere suited my mom to a T after a tiring day of travel, and we slept well on the comfortable beds. Thanks!

My husband and I stayed for just one night of our trip. The parking lot, lobby, room and breakfast area were all exceptionally clean. We didn't interact with too many staff members, but the ones we did were kind and helpful and CHEERY!!! I felt that our entire stay was clean, safe, comfortable and overall enjoyable.
