Mill Pond Meadow

Reviewed By cookiesmum2019 - East Riding of Yorkshire, United Kingdom

An amazing larger than life metal sculptured horse standing proudly looking over 353 trees planted in memory of the 353 souls who gave their lives from Featherstone in WW1. Well worth a visit. Thought provoking and a wonderful tribute to those folk who paid the ultimate price to preserve the life that we knew. Free car parking at local rugby club next to site. Pathway to site can be bit muddy, but you can walk along footpath beside road and access via pedestrian gate set into hedgerow.

This statue is absolutely stunning and the detail is such that every time you look at it you always see something different. Very proud to have this in Halifax as a reminder of the Dukes.

Harold Wilson Statue

Reviewed By A3303XQpaulh - Huddersfield, United Kingdom

Born in Huddersfield and his father was a chemist. That shop more than provided for the family. While studying at college his first job was a civil servant. Huddersfield would never be up for the young Harley but Clement Attlee had his eyes on the young man. He resigned from the civil service and took his first offer of a seat to fight. His Ormskirk constituency was significantly altered later and before the general election decided to move on. He stood instead for the new seat of Huyton near Liverpool, and was narrowly elected; he served there for 33 years until 1983. Harold was soon in the cabinet and became prime minister twice. He had the first motorway M1 build opened by Barbara Castle. Soon more motorways followed. He supported the monarchy but his cabinet was anti the Queen. When he lost as prime minister the second his wife Mary told him to stop now as he was suffering with Parkinson's disease. I'm not a labour supporter but proud Wilson was from Huddersfield and the best PM LABOUR ever had. The statue shows a busy Wilson , papers in hand rushing to his next meeting, late again.
