It’s an impressive statue for the veterans of the Great War that came back blind and had to start a new future. The location just outside Piccadilly station felt a bit wrong, could have got a better more impressive location.

This is a replica polished granite memorial. The original was lost during rebuilding in the 1960’s and it was a nice touch to put it back a few years ago when the old records were found. You’ll need a ticket to look at it though as it’s on Platform 10.

Great walk up from Ramsbottom station. Dog leading the way. Wet and wild at the top. With this great dark tower looking over the moor. V impressive. Amazing views out to Manchester City centre before the weather closed in. Well worth a visit. Legend has it the tower is occasionally open and you can climb the steps to the top. Will be good to do that post covid !!

On the one hand I think that a memorial of Alan Turing should be in a more high profile part of the city as he was such an important part of this country's history. On the other hand, he seems at peace here with his apple and it's an area where he will be rightly celebrated by all. Fascinating fact: founder of Computer Science is written on the back of his seat as it would appear if encoded by an Enigma machine. It states 'IEKYF RQMSI ADXUO KVKZC GUBJ' but the 14th letter is a U and the machine can't encode a letter as itself. markay163 on an educational visit; the Alan Cumming memorial (Sackville Gardens review). Really markay?!

In front of the Central Library you will find this monument aimed at remembering the achievements of women¿s movement, the injustices they had to undergo and to bear in mind that it is always worth fighting for what must be changed. I know that you can also visit the building that used to be her house, but it's only open on thursdays for general public.

These are dotted around the town and are very colourful..I didn't do the trail but you can do this with children if you want. Each one has its own pattern and story to tell and it brightens up the environment.
