Bust Of John Logie Baird

Reviewed By macedonboy - Glasgow, United Kingdom

This monument is in tribute to John Logie Baird, the Scottish inventor best known for his invention and contributions to the now ubiquitous television system. Every child in Scotland will have learned about John Logie Baird in school, so it was a real surprise to see this as we wandered on the esplanade of Helensburgh. I haven’t thought about the man in a long time, but I’m glad I saw this here as I didn’t even know he was a native of this town. The bust depicts Baird as a middle aged man wearing a suit, and looking out to see. On the bridge of his nose is what appears to be the bridge of a spectacles, but no other hint that he is wearing any, which is weird. Baird did wear glasses in real life, so perhaps the glasses were broken off. The bust is wonderfully sculpted with true to life likeness. Anyway, not the most amazing thing to see, but worth a look if in Helensburgh.
