当館は江戸期からの古い木造建築です。
Ryoso Kawaguchi is a wonderful traditional ryokan with amazingly friendly hosts and staff. We walked from the ferry both ways because the weather was nice and it was only a 10-minute walk, but the hosts provided their phone number to call for being picked up. Yoko Kawaguchi and her husband greeted us warmly, showed us our room, the dining room, and the private bath. The room was traditional, spacious, well equipped, and had a small balcony with a table and chairs overlooking a beautiful small garden. We signed up for the dinners and breakfasts with our reservation and were delighted with the delicious and varied meals, beautiful garden off the dining room, and helpful and friendly server, Kiyoki Kuroda. The dinners and breakfasts were as good or better than any meals we had in our 10-day trip to Kyushu and Miyajima, and we ate at several high end restaurants in Fukuoka. Kiyoki became our impish friend, making each meal both fun and delicious. He provided assistance and humor but never intruded on our privacy. Yoko was clearly in charge at all times, making sure our needs were met and providing friendly and helpful advice about things to do on the island. She scheduled our meals and private time in the Japanese bath. At the end of the day, the soak in the warm bath guaranteed a good night's sleep. We only stayed two nights and regretted not having longer to spend in Miyajima with our hosts when we left. We enthusiastically recommend this beautiful ryokan to anyone visiting Miyajima.

Yakage in Okayama Prefecture, is a small town of just over 14,000 people probably best known internationally for its annual Samurai Festival. But was there in January of 2019 for a food event. I was booked into the Yakage-ya Inn and was rewarded with one of the most interesting hotel experiences of my life. The hotel (and associated hot spring bath) are constructed from a recently and beautifully refurbished building complex right on the San’yōdō. The original thick, rough-hewn beams are left in place, nicely offsetting the new wooden construction. It’s very evident that a lot of thought, care and money was given to this reformation, and the result is worth it. One cute point is that the door to my room (which was one half of an incredibly spacious cabin duplex) had no number, but was named. My room’s name was 南天, Nanten, or “heavenly bamboo”, or “southern sky”.) The hot spring bath is free for guests, and the included breakfast was a delight. Honestly, I don’t normally eat breakfast, but this meal was so beautiful I would have felt guilty letting it go to waste. For anyone planning to be anywhere near the area, I highly recommend making the trip out to Yakage-ya Inn.

It was a lovely surprise to be met at the train station as the young woman from Hoshi Ryokan was very patiently waiting for me as I had taken my time lugging my suitcase up the stairs from the platform to the cross over and down the stairs to the small station building. As others have said the location is so close to the station (1 minute) and within walking distance to many of the sites in Tsuwano. The spacious tatami rooms were upstairs but assistance with my suitcase was provided. The room was not ensuite but I had no problems accessing the toilets and washbasins upstairs or downstairs bathroom. The breakfast was excellent and wifi was available in the room. I received advice and suggestions for attractions and restaurants in English (and there were English maps and pamphlets in the room) and small gifts when leaving. A very pleasant and relaxing stay.

My friend and I were staying here last summer. The rooms are very comfortable with the traditional japanese floor futon and comforters. They also have AC in the room as well as TVs and a fridge. The restrooms are not connected to the room but they are kept very clean and the shower is downstairs. The staff is friendly and helpful and even allowed us to check in early because my friend was not feeling well. We were able to walk to downtown Hiroshima as well as the museum from the hotel. It's in a great area that is safe and quiet. Honestly a great stay.

Aunsanbo was an amazing opportunity to relax and enjoy a traditional japonese experience in the middle of Japan nature. The house is located in a hill which gives it a advantegeous view to the mountains, the rooms are very cozy and simple and the details in the house make you feel very comfortable! The food is very good and the host are the kindest persons in our trip. Both husband and wife welcomed us and were very attentive our whole stay! Don't miss the opportunity to see some of the pottery work in the house :)
