Finca Ecologica El Maco is a unique combination of farm and hotel, located in San Agustin Colombia (1700 m a.s.). San Agustin is famous for it's archaeological park, one of the most important archaeological sites of the continent. The region was inhabited by a mysterious civilisation which left behind several hundred freestanding monumental statues carved in stone, as well as a number of tombs. This and the beauty of the unspoiled vegetation, caused by the mild subtropical mountain climat, attracts travellers from all over the world. Be it riding horses, trekking, river-rafting or archaeology, San Agustin is one of Colombia's best adventure destinations.
We planned to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying 4. This place is full of warmth and hospitality. The designs of the cabins are unique and interesting. Hot showers and comfy beds! And the restaurant offers fantastic food: pizza, pasta and Swiss Röstli - thanks to a Swiss owner, who understands about hospitality, food and wellness! The staff was excellent and everyone really seemed to enjoy work at El Maco, they were like one big family, which makes for a great atmosphere. They also set us up for local tours, guides and activities and we did not have a care in the world and could just enjoy the beautiful ride! We will be back!

Lovely place with really genuinely friendly family. You don't feel like a guest in this place but become a family friend. The rooms are rustic but comfortable, the breakfast is delicious and the best included breakfast we've had on this trip. The place is about a 10 minute walk from the main town but I liked that as you're in a quiet, country environment where horses with carts pass you frequently. I loved it, go and spend time with a lovely Colombian family.

What a lovely, unique place to stay in San Agustin! You will love it as soon as you set your foot inside the walled garden and slowly start to discover all its nooks and crannies, with their original features. There is fantastic design and wonderful fantasy behind the conception of Casa Tarzan, and some kind of magic. You will be feeling as you have just stepped inside Macondo. Everything is made using recovered and recycled materials: ancient wood, multicoloured ceramics, bamboo, bricks, beautiful old fabrics, lamps. You will never tire of exploring the place. The rooms are large, with stunning (and extremely comfortable) beds made from whole branches of trees, and huge coloured showers. The hot water will be brought on demand in a large bucket, and it will be aromatized with secret herbs that will leave your skin smooth and fragrant. Breakfast and meals are yummy. But above all it is the owners that make this place special: Dally and her brother are warm, friendly, knowledgeable and ready to go out of their way to help you organize your stayi in the best way. Trust them, and you won’t be disappointed. And go to Casa Tarzan!

Hotel Pachamama "the perfect combination of nature and relaxation" Find us just five minutes from the archaeological park of san agustin. Hotel Pachamama is a place where you can enjoy a comfortable rest since we are a country setting and family atmosphere hotel.
When I reserved this hotel I was expecting a nice rural experience, in particular for the kids. Well, we did not quite get that. The place is odd, a big house with rooms in the second and third level. You can hear absolutely everything from one room to the other. There are no animals or plantations for the kids to check out, it is not quite a farm, as I had thought. But, the dogs in the place bark all night long. So take your ear plugs with you. The owners of the place were not around and the caretaker, although trying her best, had no real clue of anything. They provide no shampoo, and you have to ask for soap and towels. Breakfast was decent, all prepared on site by the caretaker.

Hotel Campestre En San Agustin, frente A La Finca El Maco
Having traveled extensively, I’ve developed a basic + fundamental list of ‘must haves’ - regardless of where I am in the world. Top of my list - a good night’s sleep. This was not to happen during our first night at Akawanka. Instead, the smoke alarm went off in the middle of the night. To the hotel’s credit, they replaced the battery the next morning — after we informed them of the problem — but they should have been checking the alarms to make sure they were working properly. Also - we couldn’t call them to fix the problem ( I can’t remember if the phone didn’t work or we had no phone.) Even if we could have called much of the time there was no one at the front desk. We also felt that as solo travelers ( not part of the 2 large tour groups that were staying there when we were) we were overlooked.

Bon Wi-Fi.

As I stayed here twice even each time were just one night, I got to say the owners are just so warm and helpful! First time I arrived San Agustín around midnight, I felt sorry to ring the doorbell, but they just accepted me without hesitation. Before I left San Agustín I went back to ask for wifi even I didn't stay there, the mom she remembered me and welcomed me.
