Multigenerational Adventure in Rustic Splendor

Reviewed By JaquesShellaque

I completed the three day rafting/lodge trip with my 78 year old father and my two boys. My father is hearing impaired. The entire Morrison's staff was patient and understanding. Food: The meal the first night at Morrison's was beyond my expectations. It was both creative and well executed. The staff was incredibly attentive. While there is a full bar, we chose one of the many excellent Willamette Valley wines stocked in house. Lunches on the river are simple, yet plentiful. The first day on the river was a self service turkey sandwich, with chips and fresh fruit. Lunch the second day was an Asian Chicken salad either as a stand alone or a wrap. There are fresh baked goods each day; peanut butter cookies the first day ,followed by brownie cup cakes the second. Grab them early, they go quickly. Meals at the lodges were basic yet flavorful and plentiful. The lodge staff were just as friendly and attentive as the Morrison's staff. Dinner at the Black Bar Lodge was pot roast, mashed potatoes, salad, and killer sour dough rolls. The Marial Lodge offered ribs, baked potatoes, green bean casserole, corn bread and brownie a la mode. Breakfasts at each of the lodges was basic but, hearty. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, and fresh fruit. Morrison's offered an amazing beef hash. The Black Bar Lodge; pancakes and the Marial Lodge awesome blue berry muffins. Accommodations at any of the lodges are spartan but, welcome after a long day on the river. Comfortable beds, hot showers, power until lights out at 10 PM. You are completely off the grid. Wifi is limited at Morrison's and non-existent for the rest of the trip. Phone service is non-existent unto you get back to Grants Pass. The raft trip itself is an adventure. Multiple (15 some odd) rapids from class II-IV with stretches of drifting in the near pristine Rogue River Wilderness that has been protected since 1968. I still can't believe how many Osprey, Herron, Bald eagles, turtles, salmon, and deer we saw. Brent still owes us a bear. The trip itself varied wildly in temperatures and conditions but, without adversity, where is the adventure? Our boat guide Brent was amazingly knowledgeable regarding the history, wildlife, and terrain. He gave us plenty of time to explore, hike, and swim during our frequent stops. We appreciated his dedication and patience with us. In spite of the fact that the last day was in a cold, driving rain, every member of our party is ready for a repeat visit. Well done by everyone involved.

Kudos to Caleb and Ed!!

At arrival, we found there to be a reservation problem. Caleb not only found us a better room, it came at a much better price AND he was able to save us getting a cancelation fee! Kudos to Caleb on day one. Then there was minor issues with the shower area. Again, Caleb went above and beyond to help while under stress from other guests reservation issues. Ed...what can we say about Ed and his wonderful breakfasts?? Well, WAY TO GO ED! He was nice, capable and provided the cleanest area and bestest free breakfasts ever! Finally, to the housekeeping staff that I bugged every single day, thanks for all your great help. Was the stay perfect? Well, no. The hallways smelled (Ontario is a legalized/prolific state) and the room/floor above was very noisy (reducing the quality of sleep/room quality) but the customer service went above and beyond making the place a good (if not great) value.

This was a last minute reservation, but i would suggest finding another place, or keep driving. The manger was very nice, but the hotel is old and very dated. I mean old and musty; water pressure was nil for shower and bath towels were strangely still wet...it was a very strange odd experience for an over-priced room...

Was looking for inexpensive place to stay for two nights and it was late at night. Saw the VACANCY sign and decided to give it a try. The rooms are older and basic but they were clean. Nice TV, microwave, mini frig, free wi-fi worked good, bathroom worked as it should. Check in was fast & simple. I have stayed at MANY budget motels and for the money this was a decent place.

Recharged & Relaxed

Absolutely 5 Stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We stayed in the Tamolitch Cabin, which is wonderfully maintained and prepared for a very cozy & comfortable stay! The rustic, whimsical, and fun decor caught my attention straight away. Very stylish and comfortable furnishings, making it perfect place to snuggle up with tea and nice book, by the fire. They even thought to have some cozy throw blankets! The kitchen was well stocked. There were plenty of dishes, in fact they even thought of containers for left overs! We made spaghetti, and I forgot the garlic press -they had one, and a VERY nice one! The coffee station is decked out, with whole & ground coffee, several choice of teas. They have a toaster, juice picture, loads of knifes, cookie sheet, several, heavy duty, pots and pans. The bathroom was also well stocked, several towels & FULL sized shampoo/conditioner/bath gel. Hair dryer, and bath mat. Outside the fire pit has the most comfortable and unique chairs. They are angled just right making the spot the perfect place to stargaze. The bed was comfortable with lovely bedding. A nice blanket and fluffy comforter, with black out curtains, well it was a perfect set up to have us sleeping in. Refreshed, relaxed, and restored, and lovely weather - was just what was needed to explore Horse Creek for most of the afternoon. Lastly, host Alyssa, she is AMAZING. Great communication, and super easygoing. We had a family emergency, which lead us to have to cancel our original date, Alyssa worked with us to find the perfect dates. Highly recommend this mountain/creek haven.

I've stayed here multiple times. Summer and Winter were both epic. You want cozy, clean, quiet, epically gorgeous...this is the spot. The surrounding area is breathtaking in every direction...easy hiking with virtually no elevation gain. The rivers and creeks, all fresh...they are so fresh, they are cold...not much swimming available. I would recommend Lake Creek Lodge 100%.

An amazing stay

I knew Cornucopia Lodge was going to be special when I needed to drive a 3 mile gravel access dead end road to get there. I quickly learned the meaning of ‘off-grid’. It means NO phone service and WiFi limited to the dining lodge The purpose of my stay was to spend a day of jet-boating down the Hell’s Canyon rapids. A MUST adventure. Back to Cornucopia Lodge The managers/cooks/maintenance team of Jeff & Tracy were the absolute best hosts. Tracy’s breakfasts prepare you for a days work. The optional dinner is excellent and priced fair. Overall rating: A+ You will be amazed how rewarding this experience is

Hiking or riding horseback from nearby Moss Cove Campground takes about 4 hours.

The Minam River Lodge is sooooo fabulous, I want to scream it at the top of my lungs at every corner. :-) This place is low density, digital detox, glamour/lux at its best, and all in the middle of Oregon. You can hike in and out, but we flew from La Grande. Once you get there, there is a ton to do. There are many hikes available, books to read, outdoor yoga daily, an outdoor wood fired hot water tub, and then there is THE FOOD!!! Sean Temple and team whip up amazingly fresh, high quality, and sophisticated food in an open kitchen, the heart of the lodge, with the help of the Beast, a massive bbq. Beef from Snake River Farms, Hutterite Pork (which changed my life, it was so tender), and fresh popcorn and homemade cookies in the early afternoons, all of these yummy things and more. Vegetarians are also in heaven with the amazing produce and care that the team puts in preparing their meals. Of course, the lodge has a great array of Oregon wines. To the team PLEASE KEEP IT UP, this place is truly magical.
