Nestling in a timeless valley is the Vingerklip Lodge on the 3000 ha Farm ¨Bertram". The unbelievable landscape was formed by an glacier more than 300 million years ago. Today we take pride in looking after the environment and conserving the natural beauty of the untouched nature . Either relax at either our sun-upper or sun-downer pool, spot the wildlife from Ingrids Blick or do one of our hikes. Alternatively you can explore the surrounding area by doing your own day-trips - just ask Reinhard for some tips. The 11 double unit thatched bungalows comprising 22 rooms with en suite bathrooms, air-conditioning and are individually furnished and equipped to satisfy all travelers requirements. Each unit has a private terrace to complete the atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility. Eight of the units offer loft accommodation for two children each.
This turned out to be quite the little gem. Fabulous location, stunning views, lovely pools to soothe aching feet, lovely staff and gorgeous restaurant at Eagles Nest. We did both the long hikes - one around Vingerklip and the other around the neighbouring hill. The bedroom was a little dated but very clean and we had a lovely patio with its own little friendly cheeky furry creature! The bed itself was so comfortable.

Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is an activity based lodge lying in the core area of Namibia's only World Heritage Site. Only 3km's away from the largest collection of Bushman engravings in Southern Africa, we offer a unique experience in the picturesque, versatile nature of Damaraland. From tracking desert adapted elephants to exploring the geological formations of millions of years, trying to decipher the meaning of bushman folklore from their engravings and paintings, you can experience it all in this beautiful part of Namibia. With 56 rooms and one of the greatest buffets in the country, there is ample space and place to relax, let your hair down and experience this great part of the world with us.
Wildwood Motorcycle Tours have been doing regular guided tours in Kaokoland & Damaraland for the past decade and for some reason Twyfelfontein, even though we pass close by never fitted into our route as an overnight stop. I rejigged our route and visited last week. And what a revelation. Without doubt our best lodge of our 11 day tour. First off the rooms are stunning, good aircon , great views and the best showers. The food is without doubt the best we’ve had in the Namibia and costs less half of some rival lodges. And for me the standout was the staff attitude and morale. Without exception everyone was well trained, super friendly and efficient. I went back to restaurant after breakfast when all the diners had left and found the entire food stall singing while cleaning up. Not the staged choir stuff trying to leach a tip from punters, but spontaneous happy song from the back of the scullery to the waitress clearing tables all in joyful song. It put a spring in my step for the entire day. Chatting to my clients after the all rated Twyfelfontein as the best stop of the tour. We’re heading back to the region with our biggest tour of the year in October and Twyfelfontein County Lodge is definitely on the itinerary.

A luxurious lodge on the outskirts of Etosha National Park that is a truly epic place to stay. Amazing and friendly staff - excellent lunch, dinner, and breakfast, wonderful and insightful game drive and a perfect room and swimming pool area. Couldn't ask for anymore. We wish we could have stayed longer than two nights!

Hobatere Lodge is strategically located 65 km north of Kamanjab on the western border of the Etosha National Park. The lodge has an airstrip and is situated in a concession area of 8,808 ha which is home to a wide selection of game, including elephant, giraffe, eland and Hartmann's zebra.
I will admit to having stayed at Hobatere several time under the previous ownership but will attempt to be totally objective in this subsequent review under the new regime. From the start booking was straightforward but was surprised that my card guaranteeing the reservation was charged immediately with the full amount. Even Agents don't do that. We went with an open mind but it was apparent from entering the concession gate that maintenance was needed. OK. The rains had damaged the track but overall it is not as driveable as it once was. Reception was fine, and check in progressed smoothly. We were offered game drives etc., but as we are habituated to self drive we were shocked and surprised to be told this was no longer allowed. So our daylight drives were restricted to the 16km of access track. On previous visits we had enjoyed using the hide some 900 metres from the lodge, accessed by vehicle for safety, and were further disappointed to learn that it was no longer in use. More disappointment ensued when we learned the smaller observation hide attached to the lodge grounds was no longer frequented by wildlife due to wildlife avoiding it because of the new lapa building being too close. On the brighter side our Rondavel was as we remembered it but with the old 'wildwest saloon' half doors now replaced with full size doors which sadly did not fit properly and needed urgent attention by a carpenter. But apart from that we liked the comfort and cosiness of the Rondavel. Meals, drinking and socialising were to be done in the new Lapa and we had no issues with the delicious meals offered each evening. Overall wildlife viewing was disappointing even allowing for us being there in the green season. As forecast we saw little from the walk up hide, not even birds, apart from two elephants in the distance. We did see more after dark on the two night drives we undertook but again not as much as before. I cannot see us returning here unless and until there is evidence of more enlightened management and improvements to the infrastructure.

The lodge is situated in the private Okonjati nature reserve in the North of Namibia, which is home to hundreds of species of birds & animals, ranging from 20 different antelope to elephant, lion, cheetah and black & white rhino. All luxury rooms have en suite facilities and several rooms are furnished with Jacuzzis. Game viewing is undertaken in open safari vehicles or on foot. The pristine African wilderness surrounding the lodge provides unique opportunities for bird and wildlife photography. Participate in the lion and cheetah feeding session and track rhino for a truly African experience. Fossilized dinosaur footprints on site may be visited free of charge. A small souvenir shop/museum outlines the signing of the Namibian Independence Declaration at this historic lodge in 1989. Mount Etjo - encounter Namibia!
We spent 2 nights here and had 3 day Game drives which was a gift from my partner which was arranged by a tour guide. Our first game drive was great, after spotting Giraffe and Elephant we were happy to book for the next day. On the morning of our second game drive we see nothing. Apparently it was too windy for the animals to come out of the bush so they were hiding? or so we were told by our guide. After returning from our drive we sat around the pool area for a hour or so and while there we joked that we heard gun shots. As if anyone would be shooting animals near here we thought. That evening was our third game drive, hoping to see Lions or Rino however we were told by our guide who was different to the mornings, that again the weather was to bad for the animals to be out? I thought the weather was perfect, the wind had died down and there was not a cloud in the sky! And as if animals think oh, the weathers bad so I'm not going out today! Drives was meant to be 3 hours long but after having a sundowner by the river and waiting for our guide to finish his cigarette, we drove back to the lodge, we got back 30 minutes early. we did complain and were offered a bottle of wine as an apology which we refused. We didn't pay for the drive. The verbal communication from the guides were non existent, you would just get the name of the animal which you were looking at but there was no factual information which we learnt on the animals. That evening we spoke to a lady who we had befriended, and she showed us photos of the magnificent Lions we had been wanting to see. She told us she went out with the owner and they knew where the lions were as one had been TAGGED so they knew where to find them! I was horrified. Not only does Mount Etjo tag animals, the guides know where the lions are and they obviously do not show you them on a drive as they earn so much more if you pay for a night time Lion feed. which coincidently, you get asked if you would like to join every evening during dinner. We obviously refused as we believe animals should be in a natural environment and hunt their own food. So it really doesn't matter how many times you pay for a game drive, the likelihood of you seeing lions would be non excitant by looking at the reviews most pay for the lion feed, and the excuse they come up with is the weather! More disturbing is that when returning home we discovered that Mount Etjo is part of Jan Oelofse Hunting lodge which is situated in close proximity to the main lodge. Here you can hunt and kill the animal ( for a high price of course!) as they proudly advertise on their website if you search for it. Looking back we thought that there were some strange men on our drive on the first afternoon. No cameras and dressed over the top in full hunting clothes. We didn't see them on our full day until dinner time around the fire. I could tell they were extremely happy with themselves and with beer in their hands I could hear them talk about seeing that day and I'm sure I heard the word gun. We thought it was strange as we hadn't seen them on the drives that day. but again at the time it didn't register as I guess we were a little naive. The fact that we were in the same room as theses pathetic people makes me feel ashamed to be a human being. We were told that there were only 25 people at Mount Etjo and that if there was an overflow some will be housed in the other lodge, now we know that is Jan Oelofse hunting lodge. Jan Oelofse Hunting lodge even have the audacity to have the words conservation and hunting on there website! I am sure there will be a reply defending pathetic men and women who love nothing more than to put a gun in their hands and shot defenceless animals! If you care for animals and believe they should be free then avoid these places. I feel sick that our money was given to these discussing people who are happy to display their kills. We are now going to work with people who really care about Wildlife Conservation who protect endangered species and try to educate and stop people like this who put profit in front of the welfare or animals.

Guests rave about the view: the restaurant and chalets, situated on a hillock, offer magnificent views of the African bush savannah. All of the 65 double room chalets have air conditioners and mosquito nets, and a choice of three swimming pools between them. Apart from the restaurant and bar there is a wooden platform for sundowners high above the Mopani bush.
This review may be a little unfair because we were travelling on a Rovos journey which is upscale, but this lodge is not. The comparison is with Mokuti Lodge which is where we stayed last time we made the same Rovos journey. We had a couple specific of complaints. The walks to the rooms is very long and for anyone older the distance could be a problem. And meals were buffet style and the food seemed to run out from time to time. I would not chose to stay in this lodge again.
