Situated at the feet of the western Pyrenees near the French border, Spain's Basque country comprises three provinces: Guipúzcoa and the popular beachfront capital of San Sebastian; Viscaya, where capital Bilbao houses the jaw-dropping Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum; and Alava, whose capital Vitoria teems with medieval architecture. Running with the bulls at Pamplona and drinking rioja from area wineries add to the region's exotic romanticism. Travel in early summer and fall to dodge the madding crowds.

Very friendly, very helpful and kind reception staff. Beautiful location with views across the harbour. The room was small but quite nice, the bed wasn’t all that comfortable. The only real gripe - our room was pretty much above the sea front pub that is open all day and closes around 11PM - it wasn’t possible to have the balcony doors open to fully enjoy the experience without having to endure the loud reveling of the many drinkers. We’d stay again but would insist on another room and would limit the stay to a maximum of 2 nights.

Stayed here with my son for 2 nights: rooms were clean, the continental breakfast provided a good start to the day, and the staff were friendly and kind. Highly recommend this hotel for travelers looking for good value

It's clean and new but 90 € for a room without window (2 dirty velux) is a manifest scam! This room on the 3rd floor is worth 30 €! Fortunately the manager is friendly and there is a supermarket 200 m. Even if you can not do otherwise, I strongly advise against it.

We stayed in an interior room at el Puerto for 3 nights in November 2019. The room was claustrophobic because it was so small and had no windows nor any ventilation. We had no hot water one day, were woken in the early morning repeatedly by partying guests who were not controlled by the staff member who was there and even had a drunken woman come into our room. We were charged 89 euros for two of the nights because there was an event in the city and the owner felt he could get this amount. He was charging us 40 euros more than the Booking.com rate. Under no circumstances is this pension worth that much. We waited until checkout to see the owner so we could discuss our concerns but no one arrived. We then wrote to the owner and received no response, hence this review. Do not stay here.

We stayed here one night because we were arriving late to Bilbao and it was conveniently placed close to the airport. The place is just great. The old family house has been renewed and the rooms are new, super clean and nicely decorated. There is also a nice terrace and huge garden to enjoy the sun(when it is there)!. For those visiting Bilbao I would defenitely recommend it. It is 10 min away by car, and you can just take your car to the center and park there but spend the night in this great place closer to nature. Ah, plus Julen is the best host!

Avoid. Shared facilities, poor Internet coverage, no plug for the bath. The place has seen better days and it's high time for refurbishment. The location is the best thing about it and the cafe across the road is good for breakfast at cheap prices compared to Dublin.

We stayed here the night before taking the Portsmouth ferry on our drive back from Portugal. Arrived very late and had problems with satnav finding the hotel but the very kind lady on duty came out and met us to show the way. We thought we had missed our dinner but we're served a freshly cooked delicious three course meal with wine at 11.30 pm which was much appreciated after a long journey. Lovely location and beautiful building inside and out. We had a really nice room with amazing bathroom and comfortable beds. After a nice breakfast with great coffee we just had a short drive to the port to catch the ferry. I would recommend anyone to stay here. The price was very reasonable too.

It was my wife's idea to stay at Sagarlore from friday to sunday with our daughter and we also had breakfast included. It turned out to be a fantastic idea. The hotel and the surrounding area are beautiful. Lide, staff member, was really nice and helpful. I believe the whole breakfast was made from locally sourced products. It was very tasty and we actually ended up full each morning. It was, without a doubt a great idea to spend some time there. There is also a Sidreria closeby (walking distance) where you can have traditional food. We will definitely be back for more.

We stayed here for one night and I think it is important to give a balanced review: Pros Working cider farm Tour of cider making given and a taste of the cider provided Rural location Close to San Sebastian Large room Cons The place is in need of some TLC some parts look dilapidated Some renovation work is taking place and tools left out, mess not cleaned up No restaurant so you have to travel into San Sebastian for dinner Expensive given the lack of amenities and state of the place I would not stay here again, given the proximity to San Sebastian pay the extra and stay in resort
