Nice stay

Reviewed By whugirl

The hotel is right next to the station so you can hear the trains but there is a nice view from the room, which had a balcony. Staff were friendly and room comfortable. My only criticism, as with other hotels on our trip, is the lack of a lift. I dread to think what happens if a disabled or even elderly person shows up and is expected to climb to the fifth floor. But overall a good place to stay in a lovely little town.

Good stay

The customer service was very good. I was picked up form the train station and got some useful tips. The room was good. Only complaint for me is that there was hot water in the shower for only 1 minute. It was also a bit chilly in the room.

This place is awesome! Great location and view. Yuri, the owner gave us excellent advice and tips for our trip up to Machu Picchu and fantastic restaurant recommendations. He also connected us with an amazing guide for Machu Picchu named “Mario”. Yuri was extremely helpful and a great host.

Small but amazing

The hotel is conveniently located right as you get off the train. The rooms were clean, the staff helpful and several great restaurants are close by. The morning I headed to Machu Picchu they had a breakfast for me ready to go at 4:45 am. Not a lot of flash, but that’s not why you come to Aguas Calientes.

One night is enough!!

Basic 2 star hotel, in a good location, but sadly lacking! The whole hotel seemed to smell of urine. Our room window was interior and looked into the staircase. Mattress was fairly decent but pillows weren't the greatest. Front desk staff was nice. We didn't try the breakfast so can't comment. I'm sure there are better hotels in this cute little town than this!

- Noisy - Open electricity sockets - Mould on ceiling and bathroom walls - broken shower head - non-English speaking (partly unfriendly) staff + hot water + ok bed This was booked for us through an agency, but we would never recommend to stay here. Hostel the rest stayed at was cleaner and cheaper. Better places in Aguas Calientes for a better price than this one. Our room (matrimonial, 44/404).

Worth the walk

Reviewed By Weston_Anderson

We were visiting Machu Picchu for two days but wanted to avoid Aguas Calientes. Gea Lodge was an inexpensive alternative, and was situated on some beautiful (and peaceful) grounds. The staff was nice and super accommodating (we were waking up at 4 AM to walk to Machu Picchu, so they made us lunches the night before). The only downside is the walk to/from Aguas Calientes. It's ~2.5 miles to/from the bus, and adding that onto a long day was a lot. Note also that Gea Lodge is cash-only. Would probably stay again, but I might pack a little lighter so that I didn't have to lug my bag there when I arrived.

Fine for One Night, Great Staff!

We were really impressed by the price and location of this hostel, but you get what you pay for. The walls are incredibly thin and we could hear everything. Our room did not have an exterior window and we still heard street noise. Also the wifi was slow and spotty. HOWEVER, the redeeming quality of this place is the amazing staff! They were so kind as to let us check in early, store our bags late past check out, use their phone for local calls and their printer for our airline boarding passes. Don't come here looking for a five star hotel, but if you want to meet some great locals, this is the place to be!

Nothing goes right here :(

I had to stay for a night in this place. There was no hot water at all, no matter how long you wait, or time of the day is. In the room there’s no a wardrobe or even a hanger, the soap in the bathroom was used, wifi not working at all. The buffet and the kitchen are on the 4th floor, just next to your room and the noise won’t let you sleep no matter how tired you are. I can keep going on with this... like you can get your coffee from the thermos labeled “hot water”! I’ve been in many hotels around the world, but this one is a huge mistake! Don’t do it!
