We walked to the lighthouse from the car park by the Taverna (which is good for lunch). It took us nearly an hour to get there with plenty of photo stops, and about 40 minutes to get back. The scenery is stunning, from the turquoise waters of the first few bays you pass, to the deep blue of the open sea, and then the colours of the wildflowers which we experienced in early June. The path is very uneven and rocky in places so you need to wear at least trainers, but you would be best in proper walking boots or shoes. The lighthouse is closed and there's nothing there apart from the view and a flag - we were dreaming of an ice cream!!! Make sure you bring plenty of water for the walk. We started walking about 2pm and were fine, but it was unseasonably cool although sunny. Others have mentioned going at sunset but it would be tricky walk back unless there was a good moon!

The street is closed for cars in the evening and the lighthouse area becomes the perfect place to have a stroll by the sea, to have dinner and to enjoy the breeze.

Chania's little lighthouse is at the end of a nice walk around the beautiful harbour. My husband, dad and I walked all the way too it - it's quite a walk and my mum and sister chose not to join us as there are steps and craggy bits - you have to watch where you're stepping, but worth the walk.

Originally built in 1907, it was destroyed by the German troops and rebuild in 1947.The altitude of tower is 13 metres and the height of focal plane is 58 metres.
Wild and beautiful coast line with pristine waters and a view to take your breath away. On the south western edge of the island and what a sunset.
