Hotel
Due to the Autumn Festival in Takayama I had trouble booking an affordable hotel. This is 40mins by bus out of town. But a stay among dog lovers is unique, the room was excellent and although the restaurant only served set menu for dinner quite pricey I did not regret my stay here.

Hands down one of the best places we’ve stayed. We’ve traveled the world and this hotel is unmatched. The quality of service exceeded that of a five star hotel. Tai and his family are simply wonderful. He was our personal concierge, food, history and culture guide. From the moment he picked us up at the station, to him helping us purchase our return train tickets home, the care, hospitality and kindness was unmatched. The lodging is also outstanding and the beds were very comfortable. The home is beautifully restored with quality art and a calming outdoor koi pond. The house is immaculate and our private bathroom was lovely. The hotel has a beautiful view of the mountains. We were lucky enough to be there for the golden fall leaves and some early snow. We chose to have breakfast included which was exceptional and the best we’ve had in Japan. To give you an idea of the level of care, it started to snow and Tai provided us hand warmers, umbrellas and arranged lunch reservations our outing. Then he checked in on us on later in the day for a pickup and had a roaring fire with treats waiting for us when we got back. Wonderful stay!!

Stay at our comfortable,reasonably-priced and stylish Japanese Inn, catering to the independent traveler. We are very conveniently located in central Takayama, within 6 minutes walking distance of the station, and with easy access to the major tourist sights.English-speaking staff welcome you with a big smile.
First thing to know is that the futons here are super comfortable! I had a wonderful night's sleep on what felt like a cloud and got some nice mountain air with the windows open. My husband and I stayed in a room with a private bath, and while the room had a strong smell of the tatami rice mats when we first walked in, with some air circulation, the room was comfortable, everything was clean, and the staff was helpful when asking questions, storing bags, etc. The hotel is also very conveniently located near the center of Takayama so you are set to go out and explore for the morning, afternoon, or evening no matter when you check in or out. For simple but comfortable accommodations, definitely book a spot at the Rickshaw Inn.

You can use an open space of a wellhole freely as a place of reading and talking. Good meal and wine with the local ingredients, and, warmth, you're entertaining and I'm waiting.
We stayed there for a couple of nights and enjoyed the dinner on the first night. Everything was perfect: the location, the high level dinner, the rooms and obviously the kindness of the staff. We will definitely go back there when we visit the family in Gifu prefecture.

Guest House
My husband and I accompanied with my parents visited here in Oct. The breakfast and dinner were very delicious. You should try the dinner there to experience traditional Takayama food including hida beef. The family owners are nice and provide advice for our travel plan.
