The hotel is located in the neighborhood of the Kumamoto Prefecture Office. It is convenient if you have business with the office or somewhere close. A touristic spot, Sizenji Park, is also close. On the other hand, it is a bit far from the downtown Kumamoto and JR Kumamoto station. From the JR Kumamoto station, you need to take a tram for 30 minutes and to walk for 10 minutes. The hotel itself is very good, much better than a typical Japanese “business” hotel: a room is maintained very well and a bottled water is provided for free of charge. A fitness room is also available for free, but it closes rather early. The internet access is only by the LAN cable.

Our group of 3 were the only ones staying that night We had the evening tour with the resident Astronomist, who was very nice, very good at english, and his enthusiasm showed in his tour. The tour ward completely in english, i guess it was because all 3 of us are foreigners. The onsen ( stone hot spring) was nice but quite small, maximum 2-3 people at a time, and requires booking if there were more guests. But since it was just us 3 we could use it freely Unfortunately it was super cloudy on the night we visited, and so we were able to see much with the telescope. However the resident astronomist showed us a lot of interesting things in the planetarium and the amazing photos that he took of the night sky Food is pretty good. Staff were really helpful arranging for our transport ( we didnt drive)

We had a great time here. The owner was very friendly and we really appreciated his recommendations for the area. Also the shower includes a beautiful bath area :))) highly recommend. It’s not the most spacious accommodation but it’s worth it...

Owners and family escaped unharmed. The home & business survived the first earthquake, however it collapsed in the second, much larger earthquake. We are so sad. We visited this beautiful place in 1997. Our daughter is friends of the family, so we have heard directly from them.

We stayed here as a group for 2 nights while visiting the Aso caldera and hiking up Taka-dake and Naka-dake, We were welcome very kindly and explained the facilities. Rooms were small but friendly; we even had a spacious balcony which allowed us to sit in the evening to watch the sun set across the valley. Dinner as well breakfast was very tasty, varied and plenty. And the pension owns two very nice onsens which we enjoyed as a couple every evening after dinner. We only can recommend the facility.

Having stayed at more than 100 different hotels/ryokans in Oita/Kumamoto areas for the past 10 years, we rank this place among the very best when it comes to dinner and breakfast. Some foreign guests would stay here for beds only and go to downtown to eat, which is a real shame. The dishes offered here may not be typically Japanese, but apparently of the gem quality and should not be missed by all means. Another point to be emphasized is the quality of bath water. It is clear and exceptionally mild with a noticeable amount of soda contents, much better than that of Hakusui-Onsen Ruri, which smells of a dash of chlorine as antiseptic for the circulated water. Being freshly pumped up from 150 meters below the ground, this is obviously of the good "onsen" or natural spa quality. But the owners are not allowed to call it "onsen" simply because it has no authorized certificate, which would cost them some hundred thousand yen extra! After all, we can assure you will have 3 exceptional experiences here: food, natural hot bath, and hospitality of the owners, all of the superb level.

If you want to experience a traditional onsen hotel, this is the place for you. I had one of the more expensive rooms which had a separate seating area and bathroom facility. The majority of the rooms have shared bathroom facilities. Stayed here only one night. The Japanese breakfast was remarkable. The best part of my short stay was the family that ran the hotel. Three people or possibly two family members ran the hotel during my stay. Their hospitality is what truly made my stay a memorable one.
