Convenient location, just a short 5 minutes walk from the train / bus station. Common area in separate building felt welcoming. The staff cooked a great dinner for the guests, and that was both fun and good value. 3-futon dorm room was very clean, but the floor was quite cold, and mattress perhaps a little too thin, as was the pillow. Overall, maybe a tiny bit expensive for comparable dorm-style accommodation in Japan, but good nonetheless.

This is a good hostel/capsule. The room is quiet and the capsule itself is spacious. The bathroom facilities are immaculate and large. Soap, shampoo and towels provided. The cafe downstairs isn’t very social in a hostel common room sense and the “panini” is more like a toasted sandwich. Saying that is very comfortable.

⋆Guesthouse ruco was born in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in October 2013. “ruco” comes from the two Chinese characters, “流” (Ru means flow) and “交” (Co means interact). We hope the guesthouse will connect people who are visiting Hagi and living in Hagi and make them interact with each other just like the water channels flowing through Hagi are connecting people’s lives. We named this place “ruco” with that wish in our mind. The history and castle town of Hagi are not the only attractions of this city.To say nothing of the elegant scenery you can find even with a little walk, we think the wonderful people living here and the things they create are the best attractions of this city.We hope you will soak in such attractions of Hagi during your stay in our guesthouse.*Mix domitory(max 8 people)*Price: 2800JPY per nightFacility: Reading light / Private curtain / Locker*female domitory(max 6 people)*Price: 2800JPY per nightFacility: Reading light / Private curtain / Locker*private room* Price: 4500JPY for 1 person 7500JPY for 2 people 10000JPY for 3people
Our family of 5 stayed in the family room that contained 3 bunk beds. Although the space was compact, the beds were comfortable. Each bed had a good reading light and a sack to put your eye glasses in or other little things next to you. Shoi the owner was very friendly and helpful with suggestions on dining. Very very clean! We loved having the use of the kitchen where we made our own breakfast and met other guests, mostly from other parts of Japan. Great location very close to bus station and a landmark schoolhouse and Samurai training center. I was interested in the famous tea bowl pottery that the town is known for. Wandered around the galleries but most studios were closed for the New Years week. Castle ruins interesting as well. I would definitely stay again at this simple well appointed hostel.

My partner and I have stayed at Daisen Backpackers 5 times in the last 2 years, and we absolutely love the place! It’s a clean, comfortable, affordable and very well maintained place to stay while hiking, skiing or snowboarding on Mount Daisen or enjoying some of the other great things that there are to do in the surrounding area – such visiting the Shōji Ueda photography museum or one of the many local onsen. As a fan of both photography and onsen, I can recommend both. The guesthouse is self-catering, but everything you need to make a delicious breakfast is included in the price (milk, coffee, fruit, eggs, delicious local yoghurt, and the best homemade bread I’ve had in years!), and the kitchen is very well equipped. The wifi connection is also strong and reliable. And, if you have a car, there is convenient off-street parking directly in front of the property. What's more, the owners are lovely people and will make you feel at home while giving you the space you need to relax and unwind at the end of a long day on the mountain. If you’re looking for a place to stay in this area, then look no further.

I think most tourists would not consider this place if you do not have a transport, as it is like 1.4km away from Higashi-Hagi station (one station before Hagi station). I am not sure why I booked in the first place, may be because of the picture shown, like old Japanese guesthouse, and it was really the best budget guesthouse I have stayed. Formerly, as I was informed, was an old Japanese house and they converted it to the present day guesthouse. The thing I like best is the Tatami mat in the whole house though they do provide bed, but given a choice I would like to sleep on the tatami mat. And the Guesthouse Manager, Mr. Santa (yes, it is Santa-San) is very helpful, very nice person. And we even had dinner together here. They have a kitchen and fridge, and you may cook and eat at the dining table. The back room where i used is facing a small garden corner, and hence you have plenty of fresh air, and you feel the area is more spacious. They have a room to cater for lady guests. And a walk about 200m away is the public beach where you may take a stroll if you like. NEarest supermarket is about 700m away, and it opens until I think 8pm, hence you may buy whatever you need, and it is cheaper if you buy here (bear in mind Hagi is just a small town, hence they are not so many choices). And Kominka Guesthouse surrounding area has no restaurant, hence you may either walk, borrow the bicyle from Santa-San or drive to the nearest restaurant if you like to. For my two nites days here, I basically walk to explore to whole city of Hagi. The only set back here is there is again, only one washroom, and two toilets.

I stayed in Guesthouse Famusuton for two nights and the dorm price was relatively cheap. Even though I arrived earlier than my check-in time, the affable dad welcomed me into the house and gave me a brief tour of the place. It seems they too have the irksome rule of requiring guests to vacate the premises from 10am to 4pm everyday, although they’re more flexible about it than my previous lodging. We chatted a bit with my broken Japanese after which the dad took the effort to print out the bus station name for my reference upon learning my itinerary for the day. The location is pretty good, within walking distance from the Iwami station with a Family Mart and supermarket close by. There were restaurants in the area too but they were all closed due to Covid19 when I was there. During my stay, I visited the Tottori Sand Dunes as well as Uradome coast, both of which is easily accessible by local bus. I was the only person in the dorm and so had the luxury of the whole room to myself. Probably because the room is big, the heater AC couldn’t keep the whole place warm enough even at full blast, although it’s cosy enough when I’m tucked under the blankets. The thin mattress isn’t comfy to sleep on, so I ended up sleeping in fits and starts. Maybe I could have stacked up a few more extra mattresses but I didn’t wish to overstep any boundaries. The communal facilities and amenities in the house were varied and plentiful, from multiple large wash basins to a convenient kitchenette to bookshelves full of manga. Wifi was ok at first but slowed to a crawl after the first day, so I could not get much work done.

Newly opened on July 2015 - HOSTEL HAGI TIME is warmhearted hostel located in the center of Hagi town, only 10 minutes' from Hagi bus center and 5 minutes' from important preservation districts for groups of historic buildings.
Me and my wife stayed at this hostel for 2 nights on 7-4-2017 to 9-4-2017. The owner gave us a four beds room since she told us that ther won't be any other customers at that period. The hostel is new and clean. Hagi city is quiet and nice to stay for a long time. The owner provide free tea & coffee while we stayed there. She is a nice lady and maintain the hostel in a very good condition. We wish to stay again in this hostel when we visit Hagi in future. All sight seeing points are within walking distance from the hostel and remember to enjoy the Hagi boat ride if you visit there within March to November each year.

I feel like I found a treasure when I stayed at this guesthouse. Everything about it is peaceful. To start, you are on the tiny Daikonshima Island. Then when you enter the small guesthouse, all the details and design make you feel comfortable and at home. The beds are cosy and give you privacy, and there are views out over the fields. It is right down the road from the famous Yuushien garden. You can also rent bicycles for an affordable price to peacefully explore the tiny island. The host is kind and will make you feel safe and at home. He speaks wonderful English and I really enjoyed talking with him as I learned about Daikonshima.
