Seiranso

Seiranso was established over 80 years ago. The Senkyo (enchanted land) outdoor bath next to the 38-meter Hakuryu Falls has been a favorite of Japanese literati since olden times. The dramatic views and hot spring water quality were long beloved. Seiranso is in the mountains of the Kanagawa Prefectural Oku-Yugawara Nature Park. It has a strong tinge of Showa Era nostalgia.

Service and food were great. The location of this place is quite secluded. The room was very spacious but a bit dated. Even though the room was clean, it seemed like it wasn't because of the color contrast and lighting. The hot spring was nice, but be careful of spiders, especially if you go to the smaller one.

Nice weekend getaway

Yugawara is a town near Atami but not as crowded. Has several hidden gem style onsen hotels nearby, but this is a very authentic Japanese style ryokan with two Japanese meals (Dinner and Breakfast the following morning) included. Dinner consists of 10 or so dishes of very traditional local Japanese favorites. A bottle of white NZ Sileni is available only for 4,500 JPY (roughly 40 USD). Nice hot springs bath (onsen) and take a stroll to a beautiful park nearby.

My first ryokan experience

Reviewed By CheemaCheema

The property was absolutely lovely, our room was very large, we chose the traditional room with patio and private onset which didn’t feel too private, we could see the lights to cars in the parking lot but we knew we couldn’t see people because of the forest so we weren’t bothered but others might be. The futons were not comfortable for me, I’ve slept in one and it was heaven but it was at a modern establishment years ago in Tokyo so it’s hard to say if this is how it’s suppose to be. My futon did have a stain and I only saw it after I tried to stack two futons on top of each other. The room was clean, well maintained, and STOCKED with everything we needed. Our meals were amazing, minus one breakfast where everything was neba neba lol. The hospitality was amazing! Everyone was so nice and helpful. The staffs English was “so so” and our Japanese was awful lol so we tried. I couldn’t use the baths because I have tattoos, but I did get a spa treatment from Saya, the only person at the hotel who actually speaks English! She was great, one of the best massages I’ve had in a long time. The ryokan is NOT in Hakone. It’s “near” geographically but far by transport. We took a taxi to the town to get ramen, the shop was closed, the only place open was a Denny’s, so guess what!? lol we had Denny’s.

Ideal for a romantic break

Reviewed By VannessaB

Very large rooms, with good facilities, and a balcony with chairs, overlooking the ocean. Huge TV, large bathroom with separate ( and rather powerful!) walk-in shower. Comfortable large twin beds. This small hotel has an old style faded European glamour. Restaurant has all round sea views, which serves a french style menu in the evening, while a pianist plays beautifully. Breakfast is a choice of western or japanese, and was served at the table. The hotel does not have an onsen, but does have a nice spa complex, with 3 different jacuzzis, sauna, tanning beds and a sort of "mist" room that was rather cool. Outdoor pool was empty during our visit. English is not widely spoken in Atami, and the taxi driver had some problems finding the hotel. Also the staff speak very little English. Beware if you have a chip and pin card only for payment - they don't know how to handle them and kept mistakenly cancelling the transaction instead of asking for your PIN. I was unable to make them understand to swipe and sign only. Fortunately my colleagues Santander card was accepted!

Beauttiful setting, relaxing rotenburo, wonderful hosts

Reviewed By DanielleK723

I stayed here for a weekend in November. The hosts were super friendly and accommodating- when I could not arrive until after 8 the day I checked in, they saved the kaiseki meal for me (dinner is at 6:00 or 6:30). The room was beautiful- tatami mats, futon, traditional shower/tub. I also got a room with its own rotenburo outside. The 2 dinners and breakfasts included were incredible- so much Japanese style, flavor, etc. Easy 25-minute ($40) taxi ride from Atami station, itself a simplr 45-min trip from Tokyo station. I do speak Japanese so while I booked this in English on tripadvisor and they have an English website, I used Japanese to call to arrange for the late dinner, to ask about the cab from Atami, and generally to talk to them. I am not sure how hard it is if you don't speak Japanese.

Sansuirou

Hotel Sansuirou is a hot-spring hotel located in the Yugawara area, about an hour and a half from Tokyo by train. The hotel is surrounded by nature for guests to enjoy the unique charms that each season has to offer: the cherry blossoms in spring, the green mountains in the summer, the autumnal tints in the fall and the snowy landscape in the winter. Our guests can enjoy a view of the nature surrounding the hotel while refreshing body and mind in our panoramic communal open-air bath. Many of our rooms have their own open-air baths as well, so our hot springs can also be enjoyed in a more private environment. Our Japanese cuisine is not only delicious but also beautiful to look at. Please schedule a stay at Hotel Sansuirou, where you can experience true Japanese tradition, for your next trip to Japan. Our staff is eagerly looking forward to your visit.

Excellent Service

Reviewed By Taiwan2001

We stayed 2 nights during the strongest Typhoon in 60 years. So we were stuck in the hotel for 2 days. I had reserved a room with a hot spring tub through Hotels.com, and they screwed that up. But the hotel put us in the right room without issue. (FYI: never use hotels.com) the food is traditional, but exceptional. The hot spring facilities are also traditional, but the water is very clean and rejuvenating. Above all, the service couldn’t have been better! If you’re looking for a quiet, calm, relaxing stay not far from Tokyo, this is your place.

夕食は部屋食

Reviewed By MarianJ007

Onsen ryokan -Japanese hotel with hot spring and dinner served in one's room. Dinner.
