We have been to probably 30 ryokans over the 20 years we have traveled in Japan. This was one of the very best both for its food and price. We decided to splurge and get a private bath. It was gorgeous. The service was outstanding. It is an easy walk into town. The photos on TripAdvisor do not do it justice.

We stayed in a 3 room special room with irori. Extremely generous in size. Private outside bath, charcoal pit, the surprises kept coming. the ladies outdoor onsen is huge with a mountain view. Several private baths you can use when free. Food was amazing with local produce. Why stay in an ordinary onsen when you xan experience this. Highly recommended.

The grand Mt. Yufu, towering before your eyes A moment of relaxation in semi-open air baths rich nature.
We stayed at the sky room of Ryokan Yufsan situated hundred metres above the nearby valley. The room though not large is comfy . The best thing is it comes with a private onsen with a open view to the not too distant mountain and village down your feet not like others that usually hidden discreetly. The morning misty view is scenic and poetic. So try to book one of the five rooms with the view.

13 guests room and restaurant, salon(cafe&bar) Each room has a private Onsen(hot spring). 5min drive to Yufuin station
We stayed at the Ryokan almost three months ago. And I still did not write a review. We stayed there almost by accident, as the Ryokan we intended to stay in had only a vacancy for one night. There was time pressure. So I accepted their suggestion of their colleagues. Maybe I would not have picked it if I had looked into it better as I prefer a traditional house and here the old house (badly damaged by an earthquake) has been erased and replaced with daring new architecture. Yet is turned out to be the best place of our trip, one of the best places I stayed in, and I have been in many places all over Japan. How to write a review that does justice to this special place ? A place that has all the old fashioned refinery, mastering the tradition of omotenashi, blending it perfectly with a young vibrant savoir-vivre, global art and gastronomy. |I cannot write a review. Please read all the other ones, I only want to say : thank you, arigato gozaimasu ありがとうございます

Yadoya Ohashi didn't let us down for our very first ryokan experience! Locally operated, this small ryokan compensates its size with attentive service and delicious local gourmet. Our room was petite with a giant sofa overlooking the outdoor onsen, the onsen is big enough for 2-3 people and with a peaceful, authentic setting. The beds were located on the attic, which I found quite difficult to climb especially in the dark. Yet the beddings are comfy and it's nice to hear bird chirping around sunrise. We had our breakfast and dinner in the same private room, spacious and overlooking the garden. The sukiyaki dinner was a nice surprise - they offered authentic local wagyu beef that melt into your mouth! The breakfast was very decent as well with boiling hot miso soup as the perfect ending. The ryokan pool is full of koi where the guests can feed them with prepared food. We were lucky to see some autumn leaves in the garden, feeling zen energy flowing! I'd recommend this ryokan for couple who seek for a getaway.

<Excellent> Cuisine I think this is one of the best Japanese cuisine “ryokan (auberge)” in “Yufuin” town. During dinner in a private room, a handwritten "course menu" paper of staying date was placed on the table. A total of 11 course meals were offered in a reasonable time according to our speed of the meal. Each one was a delicate and wonderful dish. I think this cuisine deserves Michelin stars. <Good> Location Located near the center of Yufuin town, it is very convenient for sightseeing. You will arrive within a minute walk to the souvenir shopping street. <Passing> Cramped and cheap rooms The site area of the entire inn are not large because it is located in center of the town. Each room and open-air bath are somewhat small for the price. A famous designer in Japan is working on the guest room design and interior, but the used building materials are cheap, so I can't feel design goodness. <Failing> Cost effectiveness I stayed in most expensive special room and paid 1,000 USD with half board. But the narrowness and comfort of the rooms are not worth it. In my intuition, reasonable price is 700-800 USD for this room. The cost effectiveness is not good, but I might make a reservation again next year only to taste cuisine. というわけで、マイナス点もありますが、プラス面の方が遥かに凌駕している宿ではないかと感じられました。

I cannot say enough about this amazing ryokan that my husband and I stayed at for two nights on our three week trip to Japan. It was an experience that we won't soon forget. Although it was expensive we felt it was well worth the money. The price included both breakfast and dinner, each consisting of multiple beautifully plated and delicious ( mostly) courses. Each dish was explained to us by the server and the owner dropped by at dinner to help us choose a bottle of sake to go with our meal. We were overcome by the quantity and quality of the food as well as by the friendliness and professionalism of the owners and staff ( all of whom spoke English). Our room was large with a spacious living room and a separate bedroom and was equipped with WIFI. Also included with our room were two private outdoor onsens with views of Mount Yufu and a small indoor onsen. I would highly recommend that people who want to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan go to Yufuinsanso Waremoko. The room, the food and, most importantly the owners and staff, are all exceptional.
