Varenna is a slow-paced destination—most visitors come here to relax by the lake. But even if "Working on my tan" is the #1 thing on your itinerary, take some time to explore the area. There’s the Castello di Vizio, a medieval fortress surrounded by an olive grove. And you’ll want to view the old, tiered gardens at the Villa Cipressi—they stretch all the way down to the water. Finally, visit the source of the Fiumelatte, a peculiar river—it’s only 250 m long and disappears from October to March.

This hotel books weddings every night and the music plays so loudly that it shakes your room until 11pm. Then the party goers yell and scream until midnight. They gave us complimentary drink cards when we checked in but the bar was never open because of the weddings. You can’t sit out on their patio with the fountain because there was always a wedding. The hotel and the staff were wonderful but they have no regard for their hotel guests and only place importance on the weddings they book

Family-run hotel with restaurant and possibility of discounts in the adjacent beach . If you contact the hotel directly via email you can receive discounts on longer stays . Located a short walk from the ferry and the train station to the hotel Montecodeno will try to make you feel at home .
I booked this hotel for a spontaneous stopover in Varenna Como having decided to stay because the staff were so friendly - it was clean and welcoming and perfectly located - just a couple of minutes’ walk from the train station and ferry - a great affordable base to explore Como. The photo I have taken is from the nearby lakefront - it is a 15 minute boat trip to beautiful Bellagio. Varenna itself is a lovely little local town with the lake less than a minute from the hotel. Thanks to Matteo and Ivan for the lovely service!

Dolce Far Niente at the Albergo Milano, the Sweet Delight of Doing Nothing on Lake of Como will remain our credo for the time being... Besides the charmingly decorated rooms at the main house, Albergo Milano, we also offer comfortable accommodation at our new annexes Casa Rossa, the apartments Casa Gialla and Casa 3 Archi, perfect alternatives for an unforgettable stay in town.
This was my second time staying in Varenna and this was my first visit, but surely not my last visit, to Alberto Milano. During my first visit my wife and I had the chance to walk around Varenna and spotted Alberto Milano and decided the location and facilities looked very favorable. I booked four rooms for myself and three other couples traveling to Italy the first time. All rooms were very comfortable, well kept, and the staff were among the most friendly of the five hotels visited on this trip. Alice worked the desk and was always friendly, professional, and helpful. The views from the rooms were outstanding and the restaurant served excellent meals with a wide selection. The hotel was very convenient to the city center as well as the ferry landing. An easy walk from the train station (about 10-15 minutes) if arriving/departing by train. Our entire group was so satisfied by the staff and facilities that I have already booked a stay for next year. We did not want to miss the opportunity to repeat our visit. Strongly recommend your next stay at Varenna be at Alberto Milano.

Varenna, an enchanting romantic village, lays on the Oriental shore of the Lake of Como. There, among its characteristic alleys, porches and ancient steps, in a typical old building you can find apartments and rooms for a relaxing holiday. Each apartment is spacious and newly restored with all the conveniences for your confort: tv, dvd player, internet free, phone, microwave, safe and a minifridge. On the top floor there is a terrace for your relaxing moments and romantic evenings. You'll be enchanted by the wonderful view! Next to the apartments there is our “Albergo del Sole” where you can enjoy your breakfast and/or your meals. Children up to 3 years are free, children up to 8 years are entitled to a discount; animals are always welcome. While you are in Varenna don't forget to take a stroll in the elegant gardens of Villa Cipressi and Villa Monastero or to walk along the water with a delicious ice-cream!
A simple, clean room with a good modern bathroom. The room is small but entirely adequate for a night or two. Fantastic view of the lake from the window and from the roof terrace. A friendly welcome from the owner. Varenna is lovely, but packed with tourists in September so accommodation is scarce and expensive. Fio e Gio is an excellent place for a short stay provided you're not hung up on luxury.

First of all, Michelangelo could not have been a better host! He's personable, knows the area well, and seems to love running the B&B. He offered to pick us up from the train station (although it's probably only a 10 minute walk if you choose that route). He was accommodating as our timing changed at the last minute, and he was so friendly and gave us a tour of our room and the breakfast and rooftop area when we arrived. Breakfast was definitely a bright spot. Michelangelo took our order when we checked in and had it ready at 8:30 on the dot. He prides himself on using all local food, including olive oil that his family produces, focaccia from the bakery below the B&B, and pastries from somebody in town. He also makes a mean omelette. The view from the rooftop is stunning, and there are only four rooms so you don't have to worry about it being crowded. The B&B is in a great location right off the main square and just a few hundred yards from the water. We stayed in room #3, which was big enough and had good sized bathroom (compared to what we had seen in comparably priced places across Italy). Even in August the evening breeze was enough to keep the room cool, but it also had AC. We can't wait to visit again!

We can confirm what others have said about B&B Il Bolentino. It's an ideal spot to stay in Varenna in terms of its location, it's cleanliness, its amenities, and the friendliness of its proprietors, Renata and Antonio. When you're there, it feels like home because it is home. You cannot go wrong at Il Bolentino.

Albergo del Sole is a nice hotel in San Giorgio Square. It was totally renovated in 2003 and has very nicely furnished bedrooms and a suite overlooking the lake. It has also its own restaurant and pizzeria. Luigi, the owner, is the chef and restaurant manager. Car is not necessary as the hotel is located in the historical centre, only 50 meters from the old port, and 300 meters from the train station.
I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical after reading some reviews but received a lovely warm welcome from Staff. Room 1 was small and basic but clean and had everything you could possibly need. Bed comfy and plenty of hot water from shower. Noise from restaurant carried easily but died down by approx 10pm so didn't really bother me. Continental breakfast provided was good.

We loved this apartment. The room is pretty with a beautiful view overlooking the piazza where the locals hangout and the kids play, and the lake and mountains can be seen in the distance. The roof top is a great place to share a bottle of wine. Matteo could not have been more helpful, making us dinner reservations for the three night we were there. We visited the other cities on the lake, and we were happy we stayed in Varenna. No, the breakfast isn’t much, but for the money you save staying here, go downstairs and buy yourself a cappuccino:)

From the owner demanding payment as soon as we arrived to my falling down the stairs because the hallway was in semi darkness when we left, this place was the worst B&B I have ever stayed in, with close to 14 trips to Europe under my belt. Breakfast was pre-packaged pseudofood and really bad coffee. The room had no aircon (of which I was aware) but west facing French door and zero circulation so sleep was virtually impossible. The room appeared to have been cleaned daily but a dead bud on the floor was never moved during the entire trip. Toiletries provided were simply one bar of soap. The only plus was that it was centrally located. Avoid at all costs

Difficult to find at first but once you get it (ask in Cafe Molo) it’s picture perfect location. Spacious flat with stunning views. However, interior design is rather dated and basic. Some floor tiles are still broken (I read from previous reviews that was the case) and need urgent fixing. Not cheap either but I guess one pays for the stunning location and romantic views.
