We just spent six days here for a special pre-baby holiday (babymoon!) What a relaxing stay. We had a duplex suite and wow it was so big and fancy and we felt very lucky with our Secret Escapes deal. The hotel staff were all polite and friendly. The pool and spa is very special and tranquil. I dread going back to my local pool after being spoilt with a week of swimming there! At 22 x 10metres it's a proper pool and not one of these annoying tiny plunge pools some spa hotels have. I had a "mamma's" massage and a facial. I've never got close to falling asleep during a massage but for the first time this extremely soothing massage did it to me. (a few times!) We loved drinks in the main atrium bar each day, (although my only improvement to the whole hotel would be adding some local non-alcoholic beer to their menus as you only have sugary drinks or sugary mocktails to choose if you don't drink) as well as a few coffes sitting in the sun in the courtyard. Breakfasts were good, and dinners in the same Galeria restaurant also very tasty. They have a good value three course menu and good value, tasty wines (so my boyfriend tells me!). The absolute icing on the cake was La Storia restaurant. Wowee - they make the whole evening an experience, rather than just dinner. Don't be put off thinking it's more expensive than Galeria or other places as they certainly give you your money's worth. I've never received so many lovely complimentary touches during one meal, from the amuse bouche, to the delicious and never-ending foccaccia, to the pre and post mini desert treats. The staff in there are also incredibly attentive and well trained. Most importantly the food is delicious of course. Thank you to the hotel for a truly memorable stay - we'll be dreaming of it during our sleepless nights and constant nappy-changes very soon!

Take advantage of the outdoor pool and terrace, or visit the center of Valenciennes, which is just 10 minutes away by car. We have 2,153 sq. ft. Always a warm welcome at the front desk, I always meet the same lady (most positive "asset" of this hotel). Parking the car was a nightmare as many spots were blocked (almost need to park outside hotel property). On the bed, duvet is too big and heavy for "summer time", maybe fit for winter... especially as no Airco, and not possible to keep window open because of the noise from highway. No soap available to wash my hands on the sink, I had to go inside the shower to take some shower gel from the dispenser. Guy at the bar was friendly when giving me my herbal tea. Breakfast is fine but having the forks with the teeth of the fork on the top, makes everyone touching all the forks when taking his fork from the bucket, not really a good practice.

Our team had to stay for a business trip at the Mercure for one night. it was our second time there and once again we were welcomed wonderfully, the staff is so friendly and willing to help - concrete example is from the hotel manager who saved us on our next morning as we were about to miss our train due to a late taxi and who did not hesitate to run to his personal car and bring us to the train station like a real super hero :) we were so grateful.. Rooms are perfect, spacious and super comfy with very large beds. I personally love the Nuxe honey shower gel & shampoo that really makes the shower moment at the end of a long day really sweet. And of course, probably the best part, the breakfast buffet that is excellent - so much CHOICE ! And everything tastes perfect especially before a really long day (eggs, bacon, cereals, fresh bread, pain au chocolat,...). Would love to come back if I get the opportunity to! Thank you to the team for making our business trips really sweet and cozy.

Nice hotel ten minutes from town center ,nice clean bright room good house keeping and friendly reception staff. we stayed here so we could visit our son who lives in the area . It is probably a one or two night stop hotel in the main but we had a six night stop and found it very good.

Comfortably established after four hundred years of existence. All spruced up, it offers its Henry IV style, interpreted with regional inspiration in its proportions, harmoniously decorated in total respect for the region and its history. When Louis XIV made his “joyful return” to Valenciennes in August 1680, the Auberge was called “A la Ville de Troyes”. A souvenir of the great fairs of Champagne, with the travellers, salesmen and drapers stopping in our town to rest and restore their strength.in the hearth, there would be capons and haunches of meat roasting with a stew bubbling in fat jugs, swaying with the bawdy songs which barely covered the sounds of horses and their hooves on the round paving stones in the courtyard. The inn had a great reputation; Jacques Fontaine managed the establishment until 1701 and its successors’ were still roasting in the fireplace in 1789.
This is a hotel with clearly a lot of history and is pretty impressive as you enter into the ancient cobbled courtyard. The food in the restaurant is very good, we took recommendations from the chef and throughly enjoyed it. I believe some of the rooms are very pleasant but at all costs, avoid room “O”. The deep shag pile carpet which is used instead of paint or wall paper to cover the walls is just very odd and the bathroom looks like it was last upgraded 50 years ago with red carpet on the floor, faded blue bathroom furniture, a shower head which is probably great if you are less than 5ft tall ( I’m 6ft 2”) and a shower screen which has been fixed to the bath by what look like plaster. The hotel was suggested by a customer I am travelling with otherwise I would have complained and left.

My sister-in-law found this house for us for a one-night stay while we were visiting some friends of ours who live in Valenciennes. The owner of this B&B saved this magnificent home from being torn down and turned it into a B&B. It is just beautiful inside and outside. There is secure parking in front of the B&B and public transportation a hop (no skip, no jump, just a hop) outside the property gate. We brought our own wine to the sitting areas and enjoyed it before departing to dinner. It was fun to just roam around the sitting areas and look at all the funky decor. Reminded me very much of what you would see in a New Orleans B&B. Very eclectic, very amusing, and often makes you just think....what is it and what does it mean (the art). We learned the owner is an artist, sculptor, etc. and does most of the decor himself. Our room was very pleasant, with a large shower. The breakfast the next morning was at a formal table and lots of goodies to eat.

Let's get the negatives out of the way. The room was a little disappointing, being rather small and dated. Breakfast was also basic but this can be forgiven due to the Covid-19 restrictions on buffet dining. However, the negatives were compensated for in the friendliness of the staff, the warm welcome, very comfy bed and great location for the town centre and plenty of nearby restaurants (highly recommend the Greek round the corner!). We were travelling on motorcycles and they allowed us to safely park in the hotel garage which was a huge bonus. Would we return? Probably not as we found the region lacking but if we were to pass through that way again en-route elsewhere, yes, we'd use this hotel again.

Our last day in France we decided to sleep in Valenciennes. We were happy to find there the Residhome, because we liked very much the one in Reims. We booked the studio, for one night the size of this apt was enough. As soon as we entered the room we notice the bed was queen size, what is not a problem for just one night, but the mattress was very deep in the middle, not comfortable at all. We complained with the reception and they offered a larger room, with a king size bed and additional charge. We accepted it and changed. Unfortunately this room was smelling horrible, looked like the last guest had cooked, for one year, every day a kind of oriental food. We opened the windows completely and no way to refresh it. The smell was there!!!! Also the floor was sticking in our shoes when we walked. The kitchen had grease stains everywhere, although we don’t use kitchens it was not nice to looked at every time we passed in front of it. The toilet should had been cleaner, the ceramic sanitary had an dark stain in the bottom giving a bad impression. So many bad things to mention, as well the faucet was loose in the bathtub. This room should be very well cleaned and fixed before giving to the guests. If the staffs knew this room had this bad smell they should not have give us this one. Because when I complained they knew about the last guests in the room. We would like to leave the hotel immediately, but we had paid without cancellation. Never and never again at this hotel. Maybe never again at the Residhome anywhere!!!
