We are a complex with a small 16-room family-run Tuvaluan lodge with AC and private showers. Recently upgraded in 2018. Cancelations must be at least 7 days in advance.

Reviewed By 439arietamEsfam Lodge offers great value for money. Very clean, homely rooms. The reception/common area creates a sense of community. You have breakfast there with other guests and by the end of your stay, you have made new friends. The owners are a lovely couple. The staff are wonderful and friendly. The accommodation includes a lovely, homely breakfast. Once you visit, the staff never forget your name. If you want dinner prepared, you have to place your order at least 2hours prior. You must order their fried fish dish. Everytime I travel here for work, I choose the Esfam Lodge. But, you must book ahead because other development agency workers are choosing Esfam as their accommodation of choice.

It felt like home for a month
Reviewed By Dreamer18440216330We had a great stay at Filamona. It only took a few days to make the place feel like home. The whole team was very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We would recommend to book a room with AC as Tuvalu can be SUPER hot. The place is in the very center of Funafuti, next to the airport which is the place where everything happens. We had a perfect stay.

Best Hotel in Funafuti
Reviewed By marisek2013This Hotel is just perfect. Simple, but the prices are also very reasonable and there is a fair breakfast. Ask for dinner, it is one of the cheapest meals that are you going to find, mainly if you are tired of Chinese. The location is the best of the entire city, it is almost inside the airport, you will not believe in it, you can check in your flight and wait in the hotel drinking a cold beer. That was in matter of fact, the thing that I have enjoyed most, the bar is just perfect to talk to other guests or even the locals while you have a cold drink. And Penny, the owner of the place it is very nice and helpful. I hope to go back one day to this such graceful island. I have stayed there in February. Sorry for tanking that long for the review, it is not because I haven't like the Hotel, it is just this pandemic thing that messed my whole life, and just now I could put myself together.

Note that new buildings for the Pacific Forum in 2019 now block views to the sea so any old photos now have buildings in front of them. Hired a scooter from the hotel which was reliable and fairly new. A$5 per day. Arrived after a storm to find balcony door wide open and room floor flooded. Later other leaks showed so expect room floor still gets wet in rain. No hot water even though there is a hot tap so guessing hot water system failed but not replaced. Told no rooms have hot water. Communication by phone and email with hotel to book was very difficult and yet now seeing that normally one or two staff are at the front desk left me wondering why they never answer phones or emails. Bed and pillow comfortable. Hotel is very close walk from airport however it was raining on departure so asked for the hotel bus which failed to arrive as the driver would not answer his mobile and went off doing something else. We booked to have dinner at the hotel restaurant only to be told at 7pm they didn’t know if the chef would be coming so 7 of us went to 3Ts and had an excellent meal. These sort of experiences you can expect as a tourist in Tuvalu. If the hotel want to improve the guest experience and get more bookings they need to attend to these things.

Reviewed By Anniken1002I stayed on Tuvalu for 9 months in 1995 and I still remember the sweet and open minded atmosphere the Koepke family created. The guesthouse was clean and spacious. Food was great and the company of the family and their help was precious.

Just the very basics

We shared a sometimes flushable toilet with the family, we had a tsp and 3 buckets in hand shower cubicle to wash in. The family were lovely and made us feel very welcome . A good way to experience Tuvalu

Reviewed By RangaLKI visited the tiny pacific island nation in April for a business visit. I stayed in the main island of Tuvalu, Funafuti during my stay. There is only one hotel in Tuvalu and I had to turned to one of the lodges there, Vailuatai Lodge. It is about 500m from the Air Port which is very much walking distance from the Air Port and the town centre. It is on the road towards the Funafuti harbor in parallel to the air strip. It is a very basic facility but on Tuvaluan standard it is very good as I heard from many other people. It is a 5 room facility on the up stair of the owner built with wood planks and boards. Air conditioned and with wifi which is luxurious in Tuvalu standards. But I had a bad experience on the first day with a power black out. So I had a very sweaty few hours there. Wifi is also not that strong but manageable. They serve breakfasts which is basically toast, cereal, tea, etc. again very basic and got bored in few days. Later I used to bring food stuff and cook. They have a common kitchen for that. I missed fruits and vegetables badly during my stay. There are two Chinese restaurants around the lodge and serve rice/noodles and some fast food items to apiece your lunch and dinner. But it is walking distance from airport, town center, restaurants and night clubs. The owner is a very nice lady who is helpful. She gave lots of helpful guidance to me about Tuvalu and so generous to offer her bike for me to enjoy the main island along with another guest. Being a very tiny pacific island you cannot expect high standards there. I was busy walking around island so had very little time to stay in the lodge. Please remember to bring all your amenities with you as you don't have the luxury of supermarkets or shopping malls there. Don't even imagine buying clothes there
