We went there looking for good bands, and boy did they deliver ...they should be called midwives because that was a boy oh boy!! Amirite ...the waiters in white work ao hard. They should be hired already! Head over there every friday through sunday for good music and food especially the sea food palate. Magnificent

Set in the beautiful Usambara mountains, The Lawns Hotel in Lushoto has the convenience of being in town but perched on the hilltop surrounded by trees and lush gardens gives you that unique mountain feel. Built by German settlers it has that colonial feel with its fireplaces and wood paneling in the main building. Now under new management with many improvements being made.
The Lawns hotel is a really beautiful place to stay right in the middle of the green Usambara mountains. It is located very close to the Center of Lushoto but it feels like you are just surrounded by nature. The staff is very polite and helpful and they even gave us back some money when we had to leave earlier than planned. Very kind! There are games to play, so it is a great place for couples and families. The food is very delicious as well! I 100% recommend you staying there!

”Unspoilt and unpretentious…they have successfully protected a small area of spray-bevelled coral rag forest, into which the few bandas have been lovingly secreted” African Naturalists We are a laid back, eco friendly resort on a remote, tropical coast – 50 KM from Tanga. We provide roomy comforts, warm service, tasty wholesome meals, cold drinks and good value. The rooms have been designed to blend in with the unique and beautiful environment around us. They have high, palm thatched roofs, are open at the sides to allow for cool air flow and have been built using local building practises and materials. They give the feeling of being immersed in the coastal forest. Most rooms right on the beach. There are USB points, lights and fans in the rooms, all run on solar power. The coastline is interesting, with caves, rock pools and secluded beaches. Activities include kayaking, diving, snorkelling and dhow trips.
This getaway isn’t easy to find or to get to. But it is soooo worth the rough ride from Tanga by the sea. It is a romantic (but family-friendly) eco lodge on the Indian Ocean. The tide goes in and out and leaves a breathless beach within a rich coral reef for superb snorkelling. But the accommodations are the stuff that dreams are made of. Certainly worth flying around the world for. Imagine no walls, with a four poster bed open to the ocean in front of your room. (My photos don’t begin to do this sensual experience) Food is local and adequate. But it is a tranquil experience that will nourish you. The rooms are VERY private as is the long beach area. Hedonism for real.

Indian Ocean and Mountain Adventures - TangaMbili offers a unique opportunity to explore two very different parts of northeast Tanzania: Villa Matalai - the beautiful northern Tanzania coastline with its many islands, beaches, mangrove covered bays and coral reefs Camp Mawingu - The unparalleled flora and fauna of the tropical rain forest and tea plantations of the East Usambara Mountains.
We stayed here over New Year's and had a great stay. The hosts are so friendly! We shared New Year's Eve meal together with them and the other guests. It really felt like we were visiting friends while staying there. The excursion on their boat to go snorkelling and sail around the mangroves was very affordable and a great outing. The place is set within a small village that is not touristy - dress modestly when walking on the beach to be respectful of the neighbours. Rooms are very comfortable - there are different perks to different rooms. One is open air with an amazing ocean view. Food was truly excellent! Would happily return on a future trip to Tanga.

Mambo View Point is an Eco Lodge situated near the village Mambo in the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania. Enjoy breathtaking views, individual approach and local cuisine.
Mambo View Point is a wonderful Eco Lodge with a great familiar atmosphere. The view over the Usamabra Mountains is amazing and you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets you have ever seen. You can do many interesting activities in the mountains and near forest. With some luck you can even see chameleons!

During the current corona crisis, the Beach Crab (among most of the accomodations) suffers from the lack of tourists. We were happy to find the place open and the stuff around. + the ladies at the bar/ restaurant are adorable and very friendly. They even helped us cutting our fruits we got from the village and arranged the dining table and so on very nicely. + the chef is a magican! Food was ridiculously good + the location is absolutely stunning and the beach really nice and calm (no beach boys) - since almost no guests are around, the place seems to crumble away. Even though the staff is apparently around, things are not getting fixed. Rooms are only superficially cleaned. The tabs and showers only release teeny tiny bits of water. - if you stay at a Budget hut you can rent a fan for 2$ a night, but mostly there is no power during the night time. Plus you‘ll get a big family of insects as roomies. - as already mentioned, the food is very good, BUT except of water, beer and soft drinks you cannot order anything between meal times. You can‘t even get a fruit juice or a snack if you do not preorder your lunch/dinner. It is also not possible to order anything else other than the dishes on the blackboard. I asked for chips or a small salat - not possible. - nobody could be bothered to place the matresses at the beach for us, we only found out that they actually have them when other guests arrived (we stayed for a week!) - check out: we were told that creditcard payment is possible with an additional fee of 5% (before hand). Shortly bevor we had to leave, management said that it is only possible to pay the amount in US$. Well, they always use the same rate, so the price would have been 65$ more in total. Management explained that it is not possible to transfer Tansanian Shillings to their account and that they would always take the same rate, no matter what. (2000 TS = 1$) at the moment (2318 TS = 1$) If we wouldn‘t have checked the bill and put it into the currency calculator we just would‘ve paid 65$ for nothing.

Just a few steps away from the beach, Barry's Beach Resort offers accommodation near Sange Village. The resort has an outdoor pool and restaurant. The bungalow-style rooms are made out of local materials. Each room is equipped with a desk, fan and mosquito net. The bathrooms are fitted with a shower. The resort's restaurant and bar overlooks the beach. The resort offers bicycle rental, snorkelling trips and excursions to Saadani National Park, which is about 40 km away. Airport transfers and and other transfers can also be arranged for a surcharge.
Everything was perfect! My beachfront cottage was very clean - no bugs or mosquitos due to the nice breeze. The whole resort looks brand new since everything is well maintained and even the sand is raked. For dinner, I chose filet steak with mashed potatoes. It came with a cream of vegetable soup served as a started with homemade bread. Desert was ice cream with chocolate sauce. In the morning I walked down the beach to the left and met a Masai guy sitting on his boat on the shore. Swimming was good at high tide right in front of the resort. The lounge chairs were very comfortable. It was interesting talking to Barry about how he built the resort. He's very much a hands on owner. After checking out I rode my motorcycle 16 km down the beach to the right during low tide to the next tide. Next time I'll try to pay a local fisherman a few dollars to take me out sailing.

At Peponi, we feel that the space and its energy will speak for itself, offering a dazzling experience without much need to look beyond what Nature has generously provided. Accommodation options include eight en-suite bandas ranging in size to accommodate individuals, couples, families and larger groups as well as permanent safari tents and camping. Tents can also be hired at Peponi. Also available and accommodating up to three people is the age-old caravan, which has been updated since serving as the first form of housing at Peponi in the 80's! The kitchen serves up delicious and mouth-watering dishes. Seafood caught by local fishermen at Kigombe, meat and vegetarian dishes for all tastes as well as pizzas and snacks at the beach bar. Grab a seat at the beach bar or stay up top; sit, relax and take in the staggering sites! The dhow-in-residence, 'Pepi' which is captained by Mwashonde, visits the Sand Island daily, an exquisite site emerging only during low tide! Jump off the dhow for some snorkeling within the Marine Park just before reaching the island and enjoying a picnic lunch! Kayaks are available for rent from the camp for those keen to explore the surrounding area. It is also possible to organize fishing trips around the famous fishing area within the Pemba Channel. Snorkeling equipment is also available to hire to visit the coral gardens near shore. Local trips may include visits around the local salt farm, Coelacanth Research Centre, Amboni Caves, Tongoni Ruins, the nearby mangroves as well as Tanga and Pangani. It is also possible to arrange a boat trip down Pangani River. Amani Nature Reserve is a great day trip from the camp. Local boats travel daily to Zanzibar for those keen to make the journey by sea! For an independent adventure, it is also possible to rent bicycles or piki-piki's and design your own route around the area!
Stayed here for a week. Ocean front property with great view of the water from their outdoor lounge area. Place is somewhat rustic but we loved how quiet it was when we were there (not many guests at the time). Bandas or cabins as they might be called, are screened in but do not have actual windows so if you're looking for total privacy this might not be the place for you. Food was great and staff was very kind, helpful and friendly.

The Tides Lodge is situated in the middle of a huge picture post card bay - selected as one of the top 6 secret beaches in the World by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine. With only seven beach cottages and two family houses The Tides Lodge offers intimacy and luxury. The cottages are bright and breezy with large billowing nets decorated in a simple fashion. The high light of any visit to The Tides is the excellent cuisine.
During our Tanzania-Trip in sep 2018 we spent beautiful days at The Tides. chilled, relaxed luxury holidays, barefoot in the sand, dinner on the beach, diving, boat trip to turtle sandbank national park, nice people. Absolutely perfect! We intended to come back in 2020, but no way because of the pandemic. Looking forward to 2022. Kerstin, Hans and Emma

The owners are so friendly and help you with everything you need. Very cheap accommodation within delicious breakfast food and barbecue. You can also enjoy several Pizzas and Cocktails. We really recommend this place to all of you. The stuff, especially Happiness is very welcoming and friendly. Perfect place for relaxing and enjoying the beach. Big Love ❤️
