Rich in mountains, islands, glaciers, farmlands and fjords, Sogn og Fjordane is best known for Sognefjord, the longest in Norway and the second-longest in the world. One of its arms, Nærøyfjord, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is the 12th-century Urnes Stave Church near Lustrafjorden, an excellent example of traditional Scandinavian wooden architecture. Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on mainland Europe, is home to a national park with several museums and visitor centers.

Fretheim Hotel boasts mountain and fjord views and is somewhere you can look, taste, listen and absorb magnificent nature. The hotel is immediately adjacent to the Nærøyfjord UNESCO World Heritage site. This fjord has been chosen as one of the world’s most beautiful destinations several times running! The hotel was built in Swiss chalet style at the end of the 19th century, and over the years has grown and developed in pace with the increase in tourists and travellers using the Bergensbana railway and, later, the famous Flåmsbana railway. The oldest part of the hotel has been carefully restored to reveal beautiful details, with open fires and antique furniture in the lounges, library, conference room and, not least, in all the historical guest rooms. Take yourself on a journey of discovery and enjoy the atmosphere of glory days past.
Lovely historic hotel, with a modern extension, but nicely integrated. I strongly recommend the buffet dinner…spectacular and amazing food. If you want to stay away from the cruise ships craziness this is the place. The rooms in the historic building are exquisite, nicely refurbished and provide Nespresso coffee machines…worth also a visit to the historic exhibit. Nice small walk with view overlooking the bay just behind the hotel

The rustic Brewery Hotel in Flam - with the unique Ægir BrewPub producing and serving world class beer and delicious food inspired from the Viking era. Situated on the Flam harbor, just a few steps away from the train station, but still quiet and peaceful. Built in 2008, with a rustic and Norwegian style, yet delicate and modern. Rooms with balcony and a beautiful fjord view. Activities that will take your breath away - Flam Railway, FjordSafari in the UNESCO Nærøyfjord, snowshoe hiking, kayaking, local foods, beertasting and more. Come explore our spectacular area in the heart of Fjord Norway - all year!
We liked it there. It was a nice place, the 3rd bed a little too hard, but doable. Good breakfast, coffee/tea facilities in the room. Nice outdoor seating that we could use for our dinner (see below)... The only thing that could be improved is informing guests (especially those with children) if they want a reservation in their brewpub for dinner when checking in. We were very hungry and waiting for it to open to then be told that it was fully booked. That was most unpleasant. We ended up buying our dinner at the supermarket to avoid any more waiting for food.

We had originally booked a room at a hotel in a different more centralized touristy area. Unfortunately the owner of that place passed away, the hotel went into probate, and we had to scramble to get another room elsewhere. We could not find what we wanted in that area and finally booked this hotel in Balestrand. I remember being concerned about it being more difficult to get to and far away from the things we wanted to do. It turned out to be our favorite hotel and our favorite location of our trip. The room was clean, neat, quiet, well maintained, I have no complaints. The staff was friendly and helpful. The front rooms have fjord views. The back rooms have a hillside view. Our room was on the ground floor in the back, so we had a delightful little patio to sit on with flowers and a boulder that had water flowing over it Breakfast was OK, no better or worse than most. The parking for cars can be a little tricky. Someone at the hotel seems to be a Japanese Maple tree aficionado, and the other landscaping was pretty as well. The town center is a short walk away. When we finally packed up to leave Balestrand, I had tears in my eyes because it was so beautiful and peaceful and I did not want to go.

Fjærland Fjordstove Hotell is a small white wood hotel built in 1937. The building was originally a guest house and were in the 80's rebuilt with bathrooms in each room. There are 15 small rooms. Some rooms have views of the fjord and some towards the mountain. There is no television in rooms or common areas. Each room has a bathroom built in the 80s with a toilet, sink and shower. All windows have shades if you should feel the night too light. On weekends, Fjærland Fjordstove Hotell is used by the locals as a meeting place. Which means it can be a little noise here when the discussion picks up over a beer or 2. As a guest at the hotel you are welcome to attend. At Fjærland Fjordstue Hotell you will experience great food and drinks, and welcoming hosts. We are committed to offering food that is healthy, tasty, and reasonably priced. Most our food is provided by local farmers. Let us know if you want to experience how they are operating their farms. You are welcome to visit their farm. We produce our own local beer called Fjærlands øl. It can be purchased in the reception. We import our own wine from Bordeaux. Internet is available and free.
There were some definite positives for this hotel The location is second to none and the staff and breakfast were really good However the poor quality of the room cannot make up for the positives. The room was really small with only a view of the road. Bathroom really basic. Blinds on the really small window did not block any of the light in the morning . For £220 per night I compare it to the hotel I stayed in Geiranger(same price ) which had a balcony and perfect view of the fjord and mountains .Had I paid half the price I would not have complained at all. It seemed like my late arrival (2am) justified the poor quality of room given

Comfortable apartment with a remarkable view from inside the apartment as well as from the private balcony. Full kitchen and numerous amenities. Owner is on site and responsive. I found the apartment to be a little slice of heaven. I take issue with an earlier review about the food—I had an excellent meal, including the option of a gluten-free pizza which I found to be delicious. For wine I had a glass of their house white which I enjoyed very much, as well as part of a bottle of Barbera, the rest of which a staff member promptly delivered to my room after dinner, in a manner following local laws. The setting is unrivaled, especially if there is rain on the roof of the dining room, as the sound is magical. While the path is not immediately obvious, the marina is easily accessed via a very short walk from the Flåm railway station, right along the waterfront. The view from the Flåm Apartments is far superior to the other properties in the small town. I find the earlier reviews with minor complaints to be outdated, as my room was fully equipped. I am a fairly discerning traveler who will be recommending this property to my friends who are looking to visit Norway—that is, until I have the opportunity to return myself.

I stayed only a night at this comfortable hotel but wished I could have stayed more. The very helpful owners had tourist information about the area which made me realise how much is available to do there. On top of that the accommodation was well run, and my room had a good sized bed and spacious bathroom. There were lovely views of the fjord from the breakfast room and extensive garden terrace where meals were available. The hotel is close to the car ferry but quiet at night.
