Stunning boutique hotel

Once again we found ourselves in a hotel with almost no guests due to the crisis of confidence in Sri Lanka. The Brits aren’t coming because they can’t get insurance which is such a shame. This hotel literally sits in water gardens many of them seeded with rice. The gardens attract a large variety of bird life including the colourful and noisy native peacocks. Apparently they also have ‘fishing cats’ but we didn’t see them. The infinity pool is lovely, large and has a great view of Lion Rock. I was the only person that used it during our stay. The villa we had was spacious and luxurious, large lounge room, bedroom and bathroom with a bath and shower and a plunge pool. So far all the service we have received in Sri Lanka has not only been exemplary but also genuinely warm and welcoming. They are very grateful to us as Aussies for being here when others have forsaken them. The food is generous and reasonably priced, I would recommend you take half board when booking as there are no restaurants nearby. All staff are just so very nice. Worth mentioning that everyone is wearing masks and wearing them correctly, the vaccination rate here is also high. This is a really lovely hotel and should please anyone who stays.

It has the WOW factor, especially pool and view

A beautiful, fascinating country with lovely people. By way of context, we spent 10 days in Sri Lanka from mid to end May 2022. We are a family of 4 including two girls (10 &11). We had a private driver/guide. The itinerary was Kandy (Amaya Hills), Dambulla, Sigiriya, safari, Polonnaruwa (Aliya Resort) and then a beach break in Kalkudha on the E. coast (Uga Bay). Despite well-publicised economic and political problems, we had no issues. We avoided Colombo (rainy anyway) and our private driver had no serious issues with fuel (as the tourist industry is given priority). We had huge sympathies for the locals though, stuck in long fuel queues and suffering rampant inflation. Hotels were also practically empty. We felt safe throughout and the locals were so friendly. Travel there and support Sri Lanka rather than staying away. We also had no health problems at all and no issues with mosquitoes. Aliya Resort is kind of in the middle of nowhere in the hot dry pains in the Golden Triangle. However, it is a very good base for exploring Dambulla cave temple, Sigiriya rock fortress (the highlight of our trip), Polonnaruwa ancient capital and elephant safari (highlight for the kids). You probably need your own transport. The hotel is a modern building which makes full use of available space and amazing view of Sigiriya in the distance. All public areas have huge open balconies to teh view and capture the cooling breeze. That together with its open modern design and elephant theme (Aliya means elephant in sinhalese) gives it the Wow factor. The pool is massive and a real centrepiece. Also most welcome in this hot, dry climate. The rooms are in moderns two story challets spread out in the spacious grounds. It was very tranquille when we were there (buy hotel was only 10% occupied). Our upstairs balcony suite had a large master bedroom with family bathroom and a kids twin room up a steep spiral saircase (no bathroom). It suited us perfectly and was of high quality. Spacious and high quality bathroom and other ameneties. Good internet and air-con. We didnt try the spa. The gym was large and well equipped. The nature trail around the grounds and the paper recycling plant were a nice touch. We were on half board, and maybe due to the low occupancy, this consisted of a limited set menu in the evenings. The food was good but we could have done with more choice. It became a little repetetive after a few days. Service was friendly but a little unprofessional/untrained at times (a tred we experienced throughout the trip). Breakfasts were excellent. Great choice and lots of fresh fruit. Note that beer (including local Lion beer) and soft drinks are good. However there is a very limited choice of rather low quality wine hare and at the other hotels we visited. Stick to the excellet and varied fruit juices! Overall, a place we would highly recommend. Also good value for money.

We had the luck to stay in this tiny but lovely place by the beginning of May 2022. There are only 3 rooms, and let me say, this place is AMAZING, same with service . The room (cabana or tree house) we had (for 4 people) is spacious, very clean, and very well maintained. Thumb up for the welcome drink and for the extra service they provided us! E.g. driver for the 5 days trip. Compared to all other places we have been, this was the best one!

Luxury in the heart of the jungle and the best coconut dahl we've ever tasted!

Reviewed By JLW_Travelling

My partner and I stayed here for three nights in April 2022. Our bungalow was beautiful, spacious and the comfiest bed I've ever experienced! But the real magic is being surrounding by jungle and wild animals. I enjoyed bathing in our bungalow's jacuzzi bath while watching monkeys playing on the trees outside. We hoped to see the legendary crocodile that lives in the lake but alas he didn't make an appearance during our stay. One of our favourite things about our stay was the food. We had the Sri Lankan banquet meal on the first night and it was incredible. Especially the coconut dahl. However do say if you want less heat, my partner eats very spicy so he was in heaven, but it was sometimes too much for me. The Sri Lankan breakfasts were also wonderful, we loved the egg hoopers the best - you have to try them! The view from the restaurant is spectacular and you can see Sigiriya Rock in the distance. Our hosts were wonderful. It was clearly very important to them that we had the perfect stay and they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. I am also very grateful for the staff's help with planning the rest of our trip and navigating around Sri Lanka's fuel crisis. I should point out that our stay at King's Domain was not impacted by the current political and economic situation in Sri Lanka and the hotel made sure we were not impacted by power cuts. (They have back-up generators.) The country needs tourism so do not let these things put you off visiting Sri Lanka! We would definitely recommend Seerock the King's Domain if you seek luxury in the heart of the jungle and at a good distance from the most-see Sigiriya and Pidurangala rocks.

We had a wonderful stay at Roo Mansala for our honeymoon. The rooms are beautiful (the photos don’t do them justice), the beds are very comfortable and the view from our balcony over Lion’s Rock and Pidurangala rock is simply stunning. The food is excellent - particularly the egg hoppers that we enjoyed as part of our Sri Lankan breakfast (the best egg hoppers of our whole trip) And the location is incredibly convenient - within walking distance of both rocks and a short tuk tuk ride into the centre of Sigiriya if you fancy heading out for dinner or drinks. The entire Roo Mansala team was incredibly helpful - arranging a fantastic elephant safari for us, and a driver to Polonnaruwa. Thank you for making our stay so perfect!
