Guesthouse
This has been one of my favourite places to stay in China. They lady who runs the place is the best! She is so friendly, speaks English pretty well, and even when words fail she is happy to use gestures and smiles to communicate! She basically does everything herself here, cleans rooms, cooks, organised transport, shows people hiking routes , checks you in, all of it! Super woman! Her steamed buns are the best steamed buns I ever had. So good we got them three times, even convincing her to make them for lunch (they are usually only served at breakfast!) She organised us a free ride with her husband to and from the bus stop (which is Tina’s guesthouse- don’t be tempted to get food here after a hike- wait till you get back to Tibet Guest House because it’s a million times better) There are many hikes around the area making this a conveniently located guesthouse too. Even if you need to go up the road, she will arrange a lift for you! About 300m down the road there is also a tiny shop. The rooms are clean and there is hot water in the showers. I would definitely recommend that you stay here! (We managed a hike the day we arrived up the 28bends, a hike down to middle gorge the next day, and a hike up to the waterfall and bamboo forest the day we were leaving) The bus back to Lijiang goes from Tina’s at 3/3.30.

The Banyan Tree Ringha hotel is a “must go” hotel!! The hotel staff members embody the true definition of service excellence. Our stays is very delightful, not only thanks to the kindness and professionalism of the team, but also a culinary one. The room is beautifully decorated, outstanding Tibetan style restaurant food, wonderful public garden. Please let me send my special thanks to Ama!! She gave us the best introduction to the local cultural. Thank you for making our experience so unique and unbelievable. The moment we step into the hotel, the exceptional service made us feel so warm and feel like just at home. I would rate this extra scores if I can! And definitely one of the best hotels among Yunnan. Love love love this place and can’t wait to see Ama again. we will definitely come back again!!!!

Seated atop the commanding heights of Dukezong Ancient Town in the county of Shangri-La in Yunnan Province, Hotel Indigo Diqing Moonlight City offers a mesmerising panoramic view of the ancient town. The hotel features 99 Moonlight City guest rooms and suites that are inspired by the Tibetan Cultures, a Lobby Bar and all-day-dining restaurant Bonfire as well as the Indigo Multifunctional Room.
Hotel Indigo is only around one year old. Design combines trendy modern with local Tibetan. Rooms are in separate buildings from main hotel, all overlooking the old city, the central pagoda and prayer wheel and the mountains beyond. Same panoramic view from the restaurant. Comfortable room, very attentive and friendly service but still learning here and there. Chinese menu reasonably priced and tasty.

Introduction to the Hotel [Resort] Shangri-La is described by James Hilton in the as the paradise on earth. It is the unique and ideal venue for leisure trips. Shangri-La Resort, Shangri-La is located right in the center of the city, facing the Dragon Lake and backing the largest early bird market and the shopping street. The over 1000 year-old Dukezong Old Town is only 10 minutes’ walk, and the nicknamed Little Potala Palace, Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, is only 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel. Opened on Aug.3, 2015, Shangri-La Resort, Shangri-La presents a mix of Tibetan and local Yunnan features. The Resort has 228 various types of spacious rooms, with the smallest room of 43 square meters. From different type of rooms, one can get views of mountains, lakes, gardens, and the city. Facilities include a 1008 square meter ballroom and 5 function rooms, Ani’s Kitchen for International buffet and a la carte, Lodger Lounge for snacks and drinks, and Hot Spot for hotpots.
We checked in about 30 minutes ago and we are totally unimpressed. This is not a hotel up to the standards of other Shangri Las we have stayed in. No bellhops at the foyer - in fact, nobody at all to welcome us or help with 4 large suitcases, bags etc. We dragged it all into reception and saw our first member of staff who signalled us to go to the reception to check in. I said we had booked executive rooms and where was the lounge for check in? Blank looks and please check in here! The receptionist couldn’t find the booking to begin with - despite me showing her the booking number and then had to call the agent. When I asked again about the club lounge, we were told we could use the Lobby Lounge. When checking the hotel website again, this appears to be the Shambala Lounge. Shambolic would be more appropriate. I then asked what the benefits were - as stated on the website - I showed the receptionist. She had no idea. She told us we could go for Happy Hour. I asked for a print out of the benefits and timings of the F&B servings - again, no idea. I mentioned laundry (we’re on day 12 of our trip) as being a usual benefit - she said she would ring housekeeping! Eventually, she said she would try to find out what it was we wanted to know. We gave up and asked if there was anyone who could take our cases to our rooms and were told yes. She didn’t even point us in the direction of where we needed to go to our rooms! There were 2 members of staff visible in the hotel (including this receptionist)!!! We found the rooms ourselves and in the end, we couldn’t be bothered waiting any longer and went back to reception to pick up our cases which were still there! Not the best of first impressions! Can’t wait to see what happens next! Totally unimpressed so far!

Recommended by Lonely Planet; Mostly private rooms, but also has a hostel section. The owners (Kevin & Becky) work hard to maintain the place, and I'd like to give them a positive review.
It’s difficult to express just how helpful, cheery, and generally wonderful Mary is. The atmosphere of Kevin’s is very inviting and homey, with nice accommodations and an excellent view of Shangri-la from the 3rd floor terrace. I was certainly thankful for Mary’s advice as our time in Shangri-la was somewhat open ended. She happily directed us to amazing spots in the area and has a wealth of knowledge regarding the best ways to get there. Meili Snow Mountain, for instance, shouldn’t be missed. Even on our way to the next location, Mary assisted in setting up transportation and booking for a hostel in Tiger Leaping Gorge. If you’re going to Sharngri-la, absolutely stay at Kevin’s. Laundry service, motorbike rental, excellent breakfast, helpful advice, and very clean rooms. Oh and “Jun Mao” may announce your arrival, but don’t worry, he’s a very good boy.

Located in the Shangri-La Hills, Songtsam Retreat, a member of the Mgallery Collection, offers exceptional boutique accommodation in a distinctly Tibetan Style. Well located on the lake Napa with stunning views of the lake and mountains. The room was big and spacious for a family of 4. Shower was excellent. Room was warm. Really beautiful. Food at the hotel was good too; not many choices but ok. The hotel surroundings are really worth it. They had a manager that spoke English and he was very helpful too!

“Arro Khampa” is a warm hearted greeting in the eastern Tibetan “Kham” dialect. These words pay homage to the ancient tradition of welcoming caravans and travelers along the Ancient Tea Horse Road with a firm invitation to sit down, warm up, and take nourishment and respite from the rigors of travel. It’s English equivalent is “Hey friend, I bid you welcome.”Such greetings underlined the inherent risks and sense of adventure along one of the world’s great trade routes. It expresses the essential need for camaraderie and communion. Arro Khampa Boutique Hotel name is an evocation of the long history of the hotel’s site. Local people in Gyalthang refer to the hotel’s location as the “Nansuodhak” -- the manor house of the Tibetan magistrate of days gone by, who hosted traveling merchants from as far as Lhasa and from the tropical southern border between Yunnan and Burma, supported local scholars and monks, and was a pillar of the community.
Cozy and modern rooms, fast Wifi and good breakfast. Friendly staff and the location is hard to beat walking distance to Shangri-La oldtown. Also great views from our room. We'll definitely stay here again when back in Shangri-La!

The lodge is housed in a traditional Tibetan dwelling within this typical, self-sufficient Tibetan farming village where the founder of Songtsam, Baima Dorjie, spent his childhood. Songtsam Shangro-la has hosted thousands of intrepid travelers from all over the world in the past 10 years.
The lovely Songtsam is beautifully located opposite the tibetan Songzanlin monastery and the bordering lake. Shangri-la is about 4 km away. The village-like layout of the hotel is spread over more than 20 buildings and is designed in tibetan style with many references to this magnificent region. Our room was large and styled in traditional tibetan style and rounded off with all sorts of modern amenities. The rooms are decorated with local handicrafts and complemented by tibetan antique furniture. Our room had as well a terrace and a litte garden facing the monastery. You hardly want to leave the room. The bathroom is large with separate shower and toilet. The handmade copper sinks are a very unique feature. The restaurant has large windows to enjoy the breathtaking views of the monastery and the great countryside while enjoying local or western cuisine (they even had Wiener Schnitzel on the menu). Service staff is very friendly and attentive. Buffet breakfast is very good. All staff around the hotel is friendly and service oriented. In the evening staff and locals perform traditional dances on a complimentary basis.

We stayed there for two nights at the start of our hike. The family were very welcoming and spoke good English. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed the home made white spirit drink. The room was comfortable with the electric blankets. There were great views of the snow capped mountains. It's definitely worth an overnight stop rather than just having lunch especially as the 28 bends section to the next guest houses was our favourite and not worth rushing.
