Very underwhelming place for cleanliness standard and safety!

Reviewed By langhap

The place is acceptable but far from 4 or 5 stars reviews. In the long term stay special rate offered by Booking.com, the unit is old, not well maintained, not clean to standard. Trash were left in our bathroom from the previous guest! Bed is confortable enough, but bed coverings are obviously old, recycled from other hotels, even torn. No bed bugs in our room, which was a plus. Kitchen amenities are very limited, with barely enough utensils for 1 person. Free laundry facility does sound nice, but not maintained, dirty. Only 1 working washer, and 2 dryers but none worked the way a normal dryer should. A medium load of laundry will take 4 + hours to get to the damp level! An unidentified big crawling bug was found in the kitchen sink one morning during our stay. The location didn't feel completely safe due to various reasons, mainly other guests present at the hotel. Highly disappointed by Booking.com for posting only excellent reviews for this place. Would have reservation booking through them again.

Higgins Beach Inn

Just a stone's throw from the Atlantic Ocean, Higgins Beach Inn is a classic Maine beachfront Inn. Completely renovated in 2017 to refresh guest rooms, common spaces, and the on-site dining experience, Higgins Beach Inn is the perfect place for a couples retreat, family vacation, or an ocean activities getaway. Located about 15 minutes away from excellent dining, shopping, and nightlife in Portland, Higgins Beach Inn is perfectly situated for any traveler seeking to explore Southern Maine in summertime or fall.

Cute. They're Trying, but Not Hard Enough.

Reviewed By AlleyRN

The Inn is in a great location; centrally located to lots of interesting things and close to a good beach. The Inn was very aesthetically pleasing, both outside and in. Nice. At check in we were informed that there would NO housekeeping. We would be responsible for any trash removal and for any linen exchange that we wanted. However, they did not adjust their fees to compensate for the lack of cleaning services over the five days we stayed. Our cute and funky room was very spacious, with fresh flowers in the room and a full-size dresser so we could unpack our bags. However, the floor in our room was covered with sand on arrival. One downside to being in an older establishment is that the rooms are sound transparent and, unfortunately, the doors need to be slammed shut in order to fully lock. As such, we were awakened early in the day by folks getting up to watch the sun rise. A simple and cheap way to solve the slamming problem would be to shave the outer door edge. Breakfast was only served from 8a-10a, featured a very limited menu, and was mediocre at best. So, when ya’ll wake up at 5 or 6am because all your neighbors’ bedroom doors slam shut and wake you from a dead sleep, we recommend having somewhere else in mind for an early breakfast. ? We were thankful that we brought our own fan because it provided better air circulation than the wall-mounted temperature control unit that was in the room and added some white noise to try to drown out the slamming of doors and sound of conversation that came from adjacent rooms. Sadly, the staff at the front desk was not particularly attentive or friendly. They did say hello to a few people by name. However, we rarely received a “Hello” or “Good Morning” from any staff. We were never asked if there was anything that we needed or asked how our stay was going. Sad. This is a small thing, costs nothing, but generates enormous, good will. In contrast, when we went to Black Point Inn for drinks, we received more hospitality there in 2 hours than at Higgins Beach Inn in 5 days. Everyone there treated you as a valued customer. When we arrived and when we left the HBI none of the staff ever offered open or hold the front door for my spouse or me when our hands where full. Even the form letter I received soliciting a review did not have a name on the salutation line. It just said “Dear *First*. Clearly, you are trying, but not hard enough. Suggest that you up your game a little and train your staff.

Great hotel

Reviewed By Lynnej1969

We just returned from a week long stay at this hotel and I really couldn't fault it. The location was really handy to everywhere just off the interstate and easy found. I had in my head from previous photos that it was out of the way and it really wasn't. The room was amazing and so clean, better than we had hoped for. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which had a separate kitchen and living area. The bed was super comfortable, the shower warm. The pool and jacuzzi were a welcome sight after days out and about and were never busy. Okay there were no cleaners in every day but you could ask the front desk for anything and they could get you whatever you needed. All in all I would love to stay here again, it was a really nice hotel and the staff were just lovely. Thanks Homewood suites for a great stay .

Clean, Comfortable, and Accommodating

We booked four pre-paid nights here with a third party booking service, who cancelled our reservation without tell us! It was a Sunday night and impossible to rectify, so Matt gave us the room so we could get settled. By the next day, the manager had contacted the booking service and gotten it settled. The place is clean, the beds very comfy, and it was peaceful and quiet for us. They are managing their Covid-era breakfast offerings very nicely, with tasty pre-packaged warm egg dishes, cereal, yogurt, fruit. Coffee at 6 a.m.--a must for me! They were very nice to us, and we will book with them again when we return.

Stay far away from this place! Disliked · We actually asked for a refund after taking a look at our room. for $98.00 this place was unacceptable. No morning breakfast, which was advertised. I asked about local places to eat dinner and he said the Mall- really? And he clarified and meant to eat at a restaurant in the mall! I just came from the pacific NW to Maine and I was not going to eat at a mall! Went into room and was so stinky. Definitely smelled like someone had been smoking in the room. The owner said he can't help it if someone smokes outside then goes in the room. I'm an ex smoker and not even anti smoking, but this was NOT residual smoke smell off someone's clothing. Plus, it was about 7PM and this room shouldn't have had anyone in there for at least several hours.

Was a pleasant stay, very nice staff, clean, comfortable. Can’t Ask for much more! I enjoyed the kitchenette they offer, you have to request dishes, but you know they’re clean that way since they don’t let them sit in a cabinet until used. Very helpful when it came to finding certain things in the area. Thank you Allyson, Patty, and Lori, they were professional and very helpful!

Relaxing romantic Inn

Reviewed By T2334KLbarbaraa

My husband and I so enjoyed this historic, romantic hotel. We loved the old world charm and quiet, rural atmosphere in October. The staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. One of our favorite things was having coffee available in the gorgeous lobby with a lit fireplace early in the morning! The views out the windows and from the porch were fabulous. We loved the Prouts Neck Cliff walk and our stroll on the beach. My only recommendation would be that the food was good, but not to the quality of the hotel.
