A Magnificent Retreat
Reviewed By Clifford SI have no doubt that we are not the only travellers who wish to break a long car journey. Being barely 5 minutes off the A10/E5 places this hotel in an ideal position. A grand entrance and a drive along a tree-lined way, sweeps you completely away from the traffic of Acquitaine. Clearings amonst the trees provide parking areas and for Tesla owners, charging points though sadly none available for other models of electric car yet. At the top of the drive is set this delightful hotel. The decor is typical of a country house. The rooms comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast - quite one of the best we have had in France, was taken in a dining room overlooking 2 small lakes, within the hotel grounds. Breakfast orders taken on arrival, were served in individual wire baskets and placed on side tables by one's own dining table. A truly delightful stay. We have already made a reservation for a return trip

The "suite" was a strange L-shape with even stranger furniture, 1960s formica mixed with heavy wood. The room was basically clean but more attention should have been paid to inside drawers and the shower divider.

In the main building of the Abbaye aux Dames, along a wonderful vaulted hallway on the first floor, the nuns' private rooms have become cosy and welcoming bedrooms. Staying at the Abbey is original and magical. You're quite likely to meet musicians and may be lucky to hear a concert during your visit. An exceptional experience.
Unusual rooms in ancient nunnery

There are lots of pros: you get to your room along a great wide vaulted corridor, your room has vaulted stone and brick ceilings, you look out of your window onto a courtyard with plane trees. The surroundings are full of atmosphere. The mattresses and bed linen are excellent, the rooms are well -equipped and very clean. Now come the cons: you have to walk along this lovely corridor to reach the bathrooms ( thus was rather dark and spooky in the small hours). The beds are very narrow. We could not manage to get the bedside lights to work. No TV, which was not really a problem BUT the wi-fi went from occasionally patchy to non-existent.

Reviewed By MikeV795Sadly this was not wonderful. I was pleased to get a room at the last minute after I discovered two other hotels fully booked. The room as lovely and warm when I arrived with my luggage and I thought all was well. I went down the road for dinner and went straight to the comfortable bed. However I could hear the people in the room alongside talking quite loudly as the walls seemed very thin.. All night I heard every noise from next door. It was dreadful. Breakfast was satisfactory.t

Great location for being just off the motorway in an industrial type area with a lovely steakhouse restaurant next door and hyper market a few minutes walk away. The room was somewhat dated and very small but with adequate facilities. Travel sized kettle with plastic disposable cups and one tea bag and one coffee sachet between 2. The room itself had the hint of a damp dog smell and my partners asthma triggered so assume recently a dog stayed in the room. Very comfortable bed - had a great nights sleep. Bathroom was nice with both bath and shower.

Horrible stay
Reviewed By anne123456789481Neighbours banging the door, playing loud music and screaming in the middle of the night! This is not acceptable for people travelling who would have liked a good night sleep. Would not recommend this hotel.
