Grand Hotel at Serre Chevalier valley, is a traditional mountain lodge, perfect location for skiers wanting to get on the mountain quickly and easily. Le Grand Hotel has 65 rooms all renovated in 2016 for 1 to 4 people. All rooms have bathroom or shower, hair dryer, TV, phone with self wake up call facilities, a safe and free WIFI access. Most of the rooms have south facing balconies and wonderful views of the village and the slopes.
Poor quality, bad manegment
Reviewed By FrmmsiMe and my partner were very excited to get to know this hôtel. We knew the spa was going to be closed due to the covid19 crisis, but still we were expecting a very good stay... After all, we did payed almost 400€ for two nights.. Well arriving there, the room was very very tiny, even for a couple ! The door of the bathroom was brooken. After paying 400€ you will be expecting something better.. The Windows were not sound proof, so all night we heared the loud music of the closest bar. And if that wasnt't enough, we could not sleep because of the heat in the room ! It was very very hot and we could not open thé window because of the loud music ! After all of this we were still planning to enjoy the pool at least, but all we found was a ridiculously small pool, always crowded with children so impossible to enjoy and relax. In our last day there, while I was in my room working on my laptop before joinning my partner, two girls of housekeeping knoked at my door and told me they had to do the cleening, I asked them if they could pass later because I was working and their answer was "no, because we will go out in 15min", I understood so told them that it was ok if they didn't do it that day, the room was not dirty, but they told me they had to do it, they were very rude by the way. They literaly kicked a client out of a room.. Had to work from the hall the time they were cleaning the room. And to the grand finale, when checking out the morning after, we did our best to be nice but at least we had to talk about the heat felt in the room. One older woman in the front desk very rudely just told us that the heat is normal, and because is summer time and everybody is hot everywhere!... What ?? And that it was normal because we got a room without air conditioning (that when we booked clearly said with air conditioning). Not a single apology was given ! The woman just acted like it was not her business.. Outrageous ! The only positive points in our stay was the location of the hôtel ! And the restaurant on the 1 floor is alright, but not amazing. So very expensive hôtel, but not worth it. Very bad management.

Reviewed By rearcardoorWe stayed at the Maeva residence over New Year and had a great week. We have three kids and ended up getting two studio apartments as the rooms would have been a little too tight for 5 people. We flew to Turin and used ShuttleDirect for a private transfer. They were great and the transfer went really smoothly. Make sure to alert the residence of your arrival time as when we arrrived, the desk was shut and on phoning the contact number were told that the reception was closed between around midday and 5PM. Luckily they had arranged for someone to attend reception at 1:30 so we had about an hour and a half wait as we arrived just after 12. One thing to note is that we got a taxi, which dropped us off at the car park behind the residence where there is a smaller entrance into the building, and we ended up waiting outside, not realising that we could have got into the reception area around the front. Mind you, you would need the code to get in if the reception was unmanned and the doors were locked. We did feel a little silly that we hadn’t ventured around to find out if we could get in elsewhere from where we were dropped off. The residence is not ski in/ski out but it is only a short walk to the lifts, no more than 5 minutes. Being a resident gets you discount at Ski Set for ski hire and if you use them, you get to leave your skis and boots there so you don’t have to carry them back and forth every day. This was great for the kids as they always hate having to walk in ski boots and carry their skis. In the morning you just walk down in snow boots or shoes, get changed into the ski boots etc and leave your shoes on the ski boot racks. Ski Set is right next to the ski lifts. My wife and I had our own equipment and we carried that back to the residence where there is a ski locker on the ground floor. The staff at the residence speak good English and are really friendly and helpful. When you arrive, you are given a checklist of items in your room and you need to check that everything is there. If anything is missing you need to let them know so that you aren’t then charged for it when you leave. We also had to leave a 200 Euro deposit against a credit card which was then released once we had checked out. They do come to quickly inspect your room before you leave and you need to make an appointment to do this. They also take one of your two sets of keys when they come to your room. If you are leaving early in the AM then make it for the day before. It’s a super quick visit and they explain a few things, ask you to make sure the room is as clean and tidy as when you arrived. You have to strip all of the linen and put in and the towels etc in the big drawer under the lower bunk bed. There is a box on the wall in reception next to the vending machine where you drop your keys if you have to leave when reception is closed. The rooms are basic and functional but absolutely perfect for what you need and all of the rooms face the ski slopes. Our only slight problem was that the fitted bed sheets were a little too small for the beds and you had to fight to get them on. They provide all of the utensils, pots and pans, cups, glasses, bowls, cutlery etc that you might need. There is an electric hob and a microwave but no kettle so you have to boil water in a pan. We drank the tap water and it was fine. The one thing you don’t get is cleaning stuff so take things like a scourer, cloth, washing up liquid etc if you are planning on cooking. There is a dishwasher and you get 2 tablets for it. You only get one toilet roll and be careful when you sit on the toilet as the metal toilet roll holder always caught our arm and we all had scratches by the end of the holiday. Towels are provided. Downstairs in reception is an open area with chairs and sofas and there is a pool table and a table football table. The only thing is that it isn’t well heated down there so you’ll need a fleece or warm jumper. There is a table tennis table on the first floor, just up some stairs next to the reception although we didn’t make use of that. In reception there is also a snack machine and every morning, the staff write on a white board the things that are going on in Chantemerle and the neighbouring villages. There is a pool out front but this isn’t available in the winter. There are recycling areas just in front of the residence on the right when you walk out and also down near the main road on the way to the lifts. Note that on a Saturday it is changeover day and the bins overflow so get there early. They are emptied efficiently in the afternoon. There are plenty of buses to get about. There is a little minibus that stops right in front of the residence to take you to the lifts and you can also get this bus back. We never used it as it is only a short walk and easy without having to carry skis. The ski pass office is right. Next to the main tele cabin ski lift. There are machines where you can buy tickets but it’s better to go into the ski pass office to buy them. There is also a tourist information office right next to it. I recommend getting the Galaxy ski pass as it gives you access to other resorts like Montgenevre and Sestriere. If you do buy this, make sure that you always carry the paper receipts with you because you’ll need them if you venture to another resort. We went to Montgenevre, which I recommend, and you have to take those slips of paper to the ski pass office at Montgenevre. They will give you new ski passes for the day and they will actually cut out the Montgenevre name from your paper receipt so that you can only do it once. Another good way to get around is to use the WiiLiik app which lets you book taxis for the Briancon area. When you install the app (there are leaflets in the tourist info place) you get the option to sign up for a yearly membership and that costs 18 euros. It is worth doing because that then gets you around 60% off the taxi fares. Doing this, let us get the cab for 5 of us with skis etc to Montgenevre for about 18 euros each way. One problem we had was getting into restaurants in the evening. In most resorts we just tend to turn up to restaurants and get a table, but here you need to make reservations, preferably the day before at busy times. Saturdays are the quietest days as it is changeover day. There is a small Sherpa supermarket in the small shopping complex next to the ski lifts and there is a small Carrefourre on the main road. Just turn left at the bus stop on the main road when you walk down the hill from the residence. There is a row of bars, shops and restaurants. The Sports bar is a good place to visit and is normally quite quiet earlier in the evening compared to the pub in the shopping centre. All in all, a great place to stay for the price and Serre Chevalier is a great place to ski.

The hotel is close to the main lift about 6-7 minutes walk away (9-10 when returning at the end of the day). The rooms are typical of a French ski resort, a bit small but clean, well appointed and lots of hot water for showers at the end of the day. The bar area is delightful, a good stopping off point between the boot room and bedrooms. The food is really excellent, both at breakfast and especially at dinner in the evening. The staff are superb, friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Thanks for a great holiday Seb

Spacious apartment
Reviewed By Bushy1950We have stayed in this resort a number of times and this is probably the most centre apartment, a short walk to two lifts. The apartment itself was excellent and having stayed in French apartment before we booked a 6 bed for 3 of us which gave us plenty of space meaning there was a double bedroom with an en-suite and a twin bedded room. There was a settee in the living area that pulls out as a double bed. Our only comment would be that despite coming and going at various times the reception was only once manned. We were never asked to register or to pay our security deposit.

Chalet l’Eterlou apartment hotel is situated at the foot of the slopes in Serre-Chevalier. This ski resort is set at the heart of Les Ecrins National Park, between the mythical Col du Lautaret and Briançon. This region benefits from a Mediterranean climate which gives it an exceptional amount of sunshine.Situated near the National park of Cases, Serre Chevalier Valley is the grouping of the city of Briançon and 3 villages Saint-Chaffrey / Chantemerle, Villeneuve / the Room the Alps and the Monêtier Baths. Serre Chevalier is a site bathed by the Mediterranean light. We feel in the heart of the Alpes, places seem to have escaped time (weather), but know how to welcome the visitors by proposing them a multitude of activities.
Location good, but disappointing set up
Reviewed By citybreakerScotlandWe discovered on arrival at 13.00 that we could not book in or leave our bags in a safe place, as there were no staff and the reception was closed until 17.00. We returned later to discover over 30 odd bags queued up outside, with people waiting to check in, and the shutters down. The receptionist issued us with an "inventory" which we were to fill in and return. It was almost impossible to understand, the translation was so poor. Rather than provide an inventory you are required to count the number of plug sockets, lights, switches, plates etc, and also assess whether they needed replacing or fixing. It was the strangest set up i've ever encountered. We spoke to the receptionist who I believe has created the document to her best ability and she couldn't see why we did not want to spend the next two hours grading the condition of the ceilings, walls, skirting, floors of every room, and locating and documenting the condition of every item within the flat. Basically doing her job. There was difficulty communicating with the language barrier, but it was clear she was irritated and not best pleased. We decided to simply note and photograph any obvious damage, scratches, rather than waste any more time. The two bedroom apartment is supposed to sleep 6, two on the sofa bed. However if you open up the sofa bed you would have no room to move around the dining table, pushing it into the standing space required for the kitchen and to get into and out of the bedrooms. There is no additional storage for anyone sleeping on the sofa bed, and as stated in other posts the second bedroom's wardrobe in only partial accessible due to the bunk bed being less than a foot from it. There would be no space for cases belongings etc. In addition the sofa bed we had had no back cushions just two tiny random ones thrown on so you couldn't even relax and sit back on the sofa. The duvet's had to be the worst i have ever seen, ragged at the edges, fraying with dog hairs and looking very much like they need replacing. I am sad to say I when i saw them i said i wouldn't even let my dog sleep on it. You have the option of paying for the apartment to be cleaned at the end of the week or clean it yourself. Along with a list of jobs that must be done, the flat was littered with laminated sheets itemising everything you would be charged for if your end of week cleaning was not up to scratch. It felt like you were in a barracks rather than relaxing, with warnings issued in reception and the lift. A very poor start. I would not stay here again nor recommend it. On a positive note the mattresses were firm, the flat was warm and the water was hot. It was close to amenities and lifts. However the attitude and treatment of residences is pretty poor, they do not seem concerned about service and ensuring the guests feel welcome, instead treating them as inconvenience to be squeezed in at a time that suits them. Not very good at all.

Reviewed By 703marcindVery good location - approx. 200m from gondola and slope. Kitchen with toaster and microwave, but you have to pay for WiFi. Door to the building from the main road what is strange - reception and road to slope are from the opposite side of the building. Only one sauna session per room per day. What was very good, was the possibility to order bagiette fo the next day morning at the reception.
