We saw caimans, guinea pig, birds, monkeys, snake, night walk tour, fishing, kayaking, Zipline... All the personnels were amazing people, the food was great, the price was fair. Highly recommend!

Refugio Amazonas is a charming 32 bedroom lodge, it is well placed immediately adjacent to the Tambopata National Reserve. Its location is ideal for stand-alone three-night experiences and for breaking the expeditions to and from Tambopata Research Center. Refugio Amazonas is built on a 200-hectare private reserve on the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve. It is becoming integrated into the communities of Brazil nut extractors that surround it, attempting to extend the benefits of ecotourism to the families committed to sustainable forest use. At Refugio Amazonas, all our guest can choose from a wide variety of excursions and activities including soft adventure, nature hikes and cool science.
I came here originally in 2007. I unfortunately forgot my camera battery in Lima and dropped my disposable camera in the Tambopata river on my last day. So had no photos to remember the trip. But I recalled that my stay here was the highlight of my trip. So I decided to come back again. It was still as wonderful as I recall it. But I understand that animals have become more comfortable with people and so I saw far more than I did the first time. The food is still amazing despite the limitations. They now also have hot water and electric sockets in each room. And even WiFi with very decent speed. A stay here is a unique and special experience. I’m not a particular fan of bugs but forcing myself to immerse myself in nature seems to be a form of mental liberation. Special thanks to Tanya for her hosting. We always felt so welcomed. And to Lucy for being such a great guide. I do recommend attending the daily pre-dinner biology presentation. We only went to one on the last day and regretted not going to more. Ps I note a recent review about bed bugs. We fortunately didn’t have this issue and so should not be an issue for travellers from now.

We opted for a 3day/2night tour & stay & wish we'd have been able to stay longer. Transport was arranged from the airport and Lucho made us feel at home and safe from the moment we arrived. Juan was polite, helpful and fed us with beautiful food. The lodge is comfortable and well maintained, a paradise in the middle of nature. Our walking tours on the first day were breathtaking and we saw amazing wildlife. A well organised lake trip on day 2 and our final morning, whilst disrupted by rain, was fantastic to see the birds under the morning sun. Lucho and Juan could not have done any more to make us feel welcome and like family. This really is a must do if you are visiting peru. I am missing my time there already. THANK YOU LUCHO!

Our history is full of love for nature, style and pleasure in the middle of the Amazon. What a wonderful hotel and overall experience. The hotel is very comfortable and the service is impeccable. Ricardo makes the most amazing pisco sours. He and Claudia were so attentive to us during our entire stay. We ate all our meals at the hotel because it’s a ways out of town and the food was amazing, both in taste and presentation. Breakfast is included. Everything we ate was very delicious and prices were reasonable especially for a hotel. We used the tour company that the hotel recommended. While it is a little more pricey than some of the other tours you will find, you most likely will not get the same experience. The hotel isn’t too deep into the Rainforest but far enough in that you have easy access to the experiences. We saw monkeys and a cayman near the property. At night it is so quiet and peaceful. Hands down, the hotel and the Rainforest experience has been one of the more memorable experiences of all our travels.

Anaconda Lodge is a friendly, pretty lodge on the outskirts of Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon, offering comfortable rooms, a swimming pool and an authentic Thai restaurant, all set in our wonderful botanic garden, ensuring your stay in the Amazon is as relaxing and beautiful as possible. Bungalows have 1 to 3 rooms and house 2 to 5 people, with a private or shared bathroom. The Amazon can be relaxing too!
We were greeted by two hairless dogs with excema yapping at us as we jangled the locked gate open and made our way up the drive. The dogs look like the hyenas out of the lion king, one them has a tongue always lolling out to the side. I hope their skin condition is not contagious. A woman emerges after them and shows us to a cabin with a floor full of empty beds and a single a double made up for us to sleep in. The bed stead’s and surfaces are dusty and the floor is dirty underfoot. I have emailed in advance to ask if we can have a vegetarian meal- I have read she is Thai abd look forward to some nice Thai food. There is none on the menu, and no veg options, everything meat or chicken and chips essentially, which I suppose is why she had not replied. We went into town for dinner, which made it somewhat pointless to stay near the airport and out tour company. It’s a ten minute motor taxi irse along a long dirty dusty road occasionally perfumed with the sickly smell of death. In the morning breakfast is fried eggs with egg pancakes, despite my having specified my husband doesn’t eat eggs: they do bring some cheese on request however and there are a couple of thin slices of avocado, served in a room which also contains the reception desk. A swaggering German man emerges from an inner room and wishes us good morning, probably the proprietor of the place with the two Thai ladies. The whole place feels uncomfortable, and I am almost glad to have to go to the airport to get cash to pay them as they don’t have a card machine or PayPal etc, even though it is a hot sweaty walk down an unappealing road. When I get back I feel I don’t even want to touch anything, just to get out of there soon as I can. Something is weird there.

I was here as part of a tour and it was good for an overnight stay. The rooms are huge, and there's a pool, games room, and restaurant all in the same complex. The showers were a little weird with the movable nozzle positioned at hip height.
