The staff were so helpful and friendly. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The location is perfect, a 10 minute stroll down into the centre of Pescasseroli. Lovely area for walking. The Restaurant was excellent, really good options, we had our best meal of our week in Pescasseroli at the Bucaneve Restaurant. The swimming pool and sun loungers are a great bonus to relax after a long days walking.

We were a group of friends embarking on a cycling trip in the Abruzzo mountains and region. We had very special requirements and the hotel could not have been more accomodating. Nothing was a bother to them and they bent over backwards to help us out. Amazing service. The food and rooms are great too.

The b & b Il Marchese del Grillo is an historic residence exclusive, based on the principle of slow living, where hospitality, comfort and culture blend harmoniously; consists of 4 charming rooms, all with private bathrooms, floors and ceilings, brickwork or wood and precious antique furniture. For guests there is an elegant breakfast room with fireplace, an independent kitchen, a library room, a wonderful terrace - solarium with view. The warmth of home while on vacation.
We had an absolutely marvellous stay at Marchese del Grillo. Marta is a generous and knowledgeable host and was so helpful in guiding us to discover beautiful Sulmona and the region. The room we stayed in was newly renovated with vaulted ceiling and every touch elegant and beautifully designed. Beds were extraordinarily comfortable and breakfast each morning offered many options of fresh locally baked goods, fruits, cheeses etc. Sulmona is such an excellent location to discover the region which has ancient villages studded in mountains, hiking, wineries and excellent Abruzzese cuisine.

A medieval fortified village in Abruzzo region where its rooms, wine bar, restaurant, meeting room and reception lie scattered in separate buildings formerly used as barns, stables, pigsties, wine cellars and farmers' or shepherds' lodgings. Wood and stone cottages have been restyled as suites, the village dungeons serve as a wedding room and a former witch's lair now hosts business meetings. At Albergo Diffuso - literally 'scattered hotel' - in the mountains of Abruzzo, two hours east of Rome, a hamlet that had fallen into disrepair has been revived, extending to the local traditions of soap-making and wool-spinning, both now thriving once more.
I came for a few days, just before the Easter and left with a heavy heart. The room, the sorroundings, the staff and food were all excellent. I had to force myself to put down my phone and stop taking photos. I had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant belongin to the hotel, including pork with figues that was just perfectly balanced. I had a fireplace in the room, there were candles burning here and there and I wasn’t missing a thing. The bed was comfortable, bedsheets soft and the heated stone/wooden floor is a dream. I also suggest visiting Chiesamadre enoteca on the premises, for some delicious cuts of prisciutto and cheese and a glas of wine and a friendly talk with the owner. I took a bread baking course and it was nicely challenging but also a lot of fun and delicious. We made among other things Ciambelline al vino, little bisquits made with sweet wine and dunked in the same wine while ready to eat… yum. The day before my departure the place started to fill up and another - very friendly and lively atmosphere - was unfolding. I will come back.

The hotel is a little dated as is not unusual for a 3* in Italy at this price but is very clean, what it lacks in decor it definitely makes up for in hospitality. The staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean, beds comfortable. Our stay was half board and the food served at dinner was very good. I can not say enough about the warm welcoming staff, from reception to waiting staff, nothing is too much trouble and they truely go out of their way to accommodate your needs. We arrived very late 2am and we're still welcomed and offered refreshments (which we declined at that late hour) and during our 3 day stay any requests we made were met. I was slightly apprehensive about booking this hotel after I had read some bad reviews but I have to say we did not see any of the issues that some people mentioned. I would gladly stay here again

Arrived after a four hour journey, from the airport, bit of a nightmare, so it was now dark, checked in at the reception, walked to our bungalow which was situated right by the pool, then walked out to go for a drink, only five minutes away from the Europa centre where all the bars and restaurants are .

We had booked in for one night to experiehepatic mountain park area. We couldn't find the hotel, and later we discovered that there are two roads with the same name, and our GPS could only find the incorrect road. We 'phoned the hotel and could get no information out of them whatsoever. We tried English, German and French, but the staff only speak Italian. We could actually hear the hotel staff in the background laughing about our predicament. Eventually we found a kind lady in a B&B in the centre of town who drew a map for us to find the Edelweiss. It turns out that the hotel is +- 2km out of town. The room was quite a shock, with old furniture from the 50's. We asked if there was a better room available but the answer was no. The lounge area (with wifi) is used as a play area for the children of the hotel staff. At breakfast we sat at a table and were promptly moved to a table behind a pillar, even though the place was nearly empty. How did the hotel allocate tables? The best tables were empty during breakfast anyway. It's a shame because with a little effort the hotel could be lovely. In this day and age of international travel surely you need someone who speaks English in the hotel? Or perhaps French or German?

The Rifugio della Rocca, nestling below the ancient castle at Rocca Calascio, offers a characteristic restaurant and bar, and the "albergo diffuso", a hotel whose lovingly restored rooms and apartments are distributed in various buildings in the village. The hotel also has a dormitory that can sleep groups of up to 16 people. Bookings can be made all the year round, and you can visit the Rocca (castle), the octagonal mountain church, the beautiful medieval villages in the district and the mountains of Gran Sasso. In the neighbourhood you will find good climbing sites, footpaths and routes for mountain bikes in the National Park, and cross-country and back-country skiing areas are on hand. Throughout the year the Rifugio Della Rocca organizes classical music concerts, in collaboration with maestro Orazio Tuccella's Officina Musicale ensemble, and literary and scientific lectures.
What a wonderful experience this is! We only stayed one night as they were closing down until ski season, and after a very busy summer. It did take forever to drive there from where we had been previous (in Rocca San Giovanni, Chieti). This included breakfast which was all delicious and an abundance of food too. We also ate dinner which was excellent, and traditional. The room was so nice, it really took me back in time, even though the bathroom is modernized. There's a beautiful fireplace that I'm sure they use in ski season. It must be a glorious place to stay in the winter months and I'd like to experience that. We hiked around the first afternoon there (wear good shoes!), then had a relaxing evening talking to other visitors in the pub. Sadly the other places were closed already for the end of the season. This is not a big place, and there's probably not a lot to do, but bring a good book and you'll love it, or take your skis come January. I'd gladly go back but when tourist season slows down (usually Sept). Since it was near the time when they close for a month, there was nobody there at the designated check-in time and a few of us were waiting to do so. We waited and roamed around for an hour or so until we saw someone close by. No big deal - I understand they had a very busy summer, and I realize why! It's a great place to stay.
