Enjoyable Pontarlier
Reviewed By GlennN_DawnOOur stay in Pontarlier was short but very enjoyable. The hotel is relatively simple but comfortable and clean. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We ate at the nearby Buffalo Grill which was excellent, the staff there also went out of their way to help us (with our sadly lacking skills in French!!) Definately will stay there again Thanks (Shep says Woof!!!)

They serve the usual IBIS Budget simple breakfast NEGATIVE: my room had a very bad smell... seems like the sewer smell returned into the room through the shower... You enter into the room with a numerical code, which you have to type onto a small numeric keyboard... however, this has an awkward layout (not as on a computer keyboard, not as on a phone)... beats me why someone chose this.

Disappointed
Reviewed By beatricepF4889JFStayed one night in August, wanted to use restaurant but were told to wait. We waited 40 minutes. French people came and were seated before us there were 8 of them . I went to ask if we could be seated there was 4 of us, was told by a staff member who was really rude that she ‘could do no more ‘. Ended up going McDonald’s with my 84 year old mum in pouring rain! When went back to hotel 6 other french people had been seated in restaurant. I will never go back to this hotel again.!

If I come back to Pontarlier I will definately use this hôtel again. I didn't eat in the restaurant but it was also very clean and people seemed to be enjoying their meals. Thank you!

Hiking, cross-country skiing, biking and fishing can be done in the surrounding area and Métabief ski resort is a 20-minute drive away. The Swiss border is only 15 km from Hôtel-Restaurant Saint-Pierre and Pontarlier Airport is 3 km away.
Very disappointed
Reviewed By ScjustAs a group of three friends we were hiking in the Jura. We had reserved to stay in this hotel by credit card, unfortunately a mistake by the hotel meant the room was double booked and we were shifted to the Kyriad on the industrial estate (which they did reserve on our behalf). However as walkers we had already covered 27km that day - on arriving in Pontarlier we had to walk an additional 45 mins to get to the hotel (and out again on the next day). We never saw the town centre as we were just too tired at the end of our day. We had to eat in chain restaurant next to the hotel. It was fine, but a far cry from the authentic experience we had hoped of.

Reviewed By Anna HWe were Looking forward to our stay. We had booked directly with the hotel via email and received a confirmation. We also had the instruction from the hotel to call one hour before arrival. We had a code to enter the hotel. So, we are on the train from Neuchatel and we call to announce our arrival. Only to find out that there was no reservation in our name and that the hotel was closed! We received an apologi and some help to book a room in another hotel. Luckily Pontarlier is a big town with plenty of options. So, my advice is to double-double check your reservation!

I was grateful to the manager for letting me in early with my bags in the rain but staff generally made no effort to communicate. Lockout until 530pm seems very last century. Nonetheless the hostel is well located right in the middle of town and very close to the station. The breakfast was basic but a nice inclusion. A good port in a storm.

Basic good room. Delicious dinner
Reviewed By babyaisiebarbI am walking the Via Francigena and not looking for fancy accommodation. My room at Hotel Le Morteau has all I need. Clean. Comfortable bed. Good shower. I ate in the restaurant and had the most fabulous dinner. Potato gratin for starters (much fancier name in French) and lamb shank for dinner. The waitress matched the food with a wonderful local wine. The restaurant has about 20 tables and most were occupied. Given quality of food and price, I am not surprised. The waitress is terrific. Speaks some English and running the restaurant, bar and hotel single handed. After a long day walking, I will go to bed well satiated on delicious food.
