Nightmare hotel!

Reviewed By MartiniJane

This hotel was highly recommended on Booking.com- a website I am going to avoid in future having been badly disappointed on several occasions. This hotel is dirty and noisy. The carpets are all stained. The restaurant gets a great write up with an extensive menu. We turned up to find it was a set - all meat - menu. The doors are open onto a cobbled terrace where people smoke. So the smoke drifts inside. The disinterested receptionist hardly paused to put out her cigarette before slouching to the reception desk which is at the side of the restaurant. Totally oversold on Booking.com. I’d avoid it.

Reasonable option for Pézenas

Reviewed By freshairfan

We stayed at the Garrigae Distillerie de Pezenas for three nights during an unseasonably cold November. The location is great -- under five minutes on foot to the center of Pézenas with a private parking lot. The room we had was comfortable, with a separate sitting area, a small kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave, and a balcony overlooking the parking lot. We opted for the breakfast (which included the typical European foods -- cheeses, cold cuts, yogurts, fruit, pastries, breads, etc., and also scrambled eggs). There were a couple of odd things about the hotel, though, which brought the hotel down a notch from what would otherwise be outstanding. Firstly, a sign is posted on a kitchen cabinet door warning guests that they must was and put away any used pieces or be subject to a large fine, but no washing-up liquid is provided (we used shampoo to wash our dishes). Then, the small table in our kitchen/sitting area had only one chair (we sat on the couch to eat). We ate in our room in part because we were avoiding going into restaurants during the height of the Covid pandemic, but also because it was too cold to eat at any of the outdoor tables. Having a microwave enabled us to reheat food we picked up to go from nearby restaurants. I'd read about Pézenas being a beautiful and lively town, but in November it was almost entirely dead, with most restaurants and bars closed. Still, Pézenas is a great base for exploring nearby areas, especially Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert and the villages of the Haut Languedoc.

This is a truly charming and lovely little hotel with a personal touch! The staff were so kind and welcoming, helped us with practical matters & did their best to accomodate our 3 & 5 year old children. We ate a fabulous dinner (& breakfast) and loved the feeling of staying at a cross between a hotel & someone’s home/b&b.

Remerciements

The priory of Saint Jean de Bébian is a unique estate of its kind. Located less than 6 km from the A75 motorway, the estate is very easily accessible and particularly well located between Sète, Agde and Béziers, it is a true haven of peace in the heart of the vineyards. The estate is 1 hectare surrounded by basalt walls and consists of a gourmet restaurant of the Michelin starred chef Matthieu de Lauzun, a small hotel with 10 rooms beautifully decorated by the architect Raymond Morel and a swimming pool. The chapel built by the Cistercian monks in 1152 bears witness to a rich and particularly well preserved past. A small century-old olive tree adorns the estate as well as majestic cedars. You can enjoy the magnificent terrace of the restaurant with a view of the park, the chapel and the presbytery where the winegrower monks lived.

Beautiful, peaceful setting . The bedrooms are spacious and well thought out with a little welcome slice of homemade cake wating for you in the room. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The gardens and the pool area are very comfortable, we arrived too late to try the hammam but it looks lovely. Of course the big attraction is the restaurant, De Lauzun - his cuisine is exquisite and the staff are friendly and unpretentious. A wonderful evening with friends.

Absolutely charming

Reviewed By Jules_Richards

My wife and I are midway through a four-night break here. It is an absolute find. Within easy walking distance of the historic heart of medieval Pézenas, Les Galeries de Beaulac ticks all the boxes for us. Dorine our duplex room is in the left hand tower, with sitting area, toilet and shower room on the lower level and the air conditioned bedroom bedroom with its conical roof in the tower itself. Owner and staff are very welcoming and the room is cleaned daily with a change of towels. Having read a previous review which commented on the size of the towels provided we brought our own - probably a good idea if, like me you like big, fluffy towels. Breakfast is delightful with fruit juice, coffee, a selection of teas, croissants, pains au chocolate, bread with artisanal jams, hams, cheeses, fresh fruit and yoghurts. Great way to start the day before wandering through the tiny streets of the old town. The pool in the grounds is a lovely way to relax in the afternoon before more food and wine in Pézenas in the evening. Looking forward to the rest of our stay.

As a solo traveller in the Languedoc region, stumbling on La Bergerie de Laval was a real stroke of luck. This charming Chambres d'Hotes, situated a 10min. drive from the historic town of Pezenas, offers its guests comfort and relaxation in a delightful setting. Wonderfully satisfying breakfasts on the beautiful terrace, overlooking the small pool with a choice of relaxing spots - loungers, hammock, swing seat or hot tub - to be enjoyed after a day's meandering through the beautiful sights of the region, where vineyards and villages vie for attention. Sonia and John are perfect hosts, with attention to the little details that can make a difference - complimentary tea and coffee or a drink from the 'Honesty Bar' on the terrace, a fan for a warm summer night, suggestions for day trips etc. A gem.

Clean and homely

Reviewed By Mousesmallhols

This is a good value and centrally situated bed and breakfast. The host, Regine, was helpful and friendly. Breakfast was served in the very pretty courtyard - croissants, bread, jams and excellent coffee. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The only downside (or not if you’re young and fit) was the rooms are at the top of the house up a narrow winding staircase. Travel light is my advice!! The car parking is in the public car park a few minutes away but it is free. A very pleasant place to stay.
